Chapter 17 - Fleeing Like a Criminal

Seeing how sorrowful Jade was, Tyler couldn't find it in himself to ignore her and just do nothing to ease it.

He approached Jade and sat at the empty space of the couch. Afterwards, he pulled her to him, wrapping the frail woman in his warmth.

Jade's body went stiff for a moment when she felt being embraced before she turned to look who came to hug her.

Red rimmed eyes came in contact with Tyler's hazel eyes. The coldness of his eyes was replaced by something Jade couldn't name. But she tried to name the emotion in his eyes. Sympathy. That was the emotion held in those attractive hazel eyes.

"Why are you crying?" The gentleness in his voice was Jade's undoing.

After the death of her biological parents and adoptive parents she never heard anyone ask her in this manner.

Unthinkingly, she wound her arms around his waist and cried on his chest.
