Pieces That Don’t Fit

AVA'S POV

Ava didn’t sleep that night.

Every time she closed her eyes, she heard the words again.

“The Lord wants her alive.”

Alive.

Not dead.

Not gone.

Alive.

The phrase twisted in her chest like something poisonous.

Why would anyone want her alive?

And more importantly… why had Dominic sounded like he already knew?

Ava sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the dark window across the room. The mansion was quiet now. Too quiet. The kind of silence that made every thought

The Lord WatchesAVA'S POV The car ride back to the mansion was silent.Ava sat in the back seat of Victor’s car, staring out the window as the city lights blurred past. Her mind replayed the scene over and over.Vanessa.The black car.The mysterious man.And the way his eyes had turned exactly toward where she had been hiding. Her stomach tightened again. If Victor hadn’t pulled her away when he did…She didn’t want to think about what might have happened.Victor glanced at her through the rearview mirror.“You’re thinking too loudly.”Ava scoffed slightly.“That’s not even a real thing.”Victor smirked faintly.“It is when someone looks like they’re planning their next reckless move.”Ava crossed her arms.“I wasn’t reckless.”Victor raised an eyebrow.“You followed a suspected informant into a private meeting with an unknown man.”Ava turned to look out the window again.“When you say it like that…”Victor chuckled softly.“That's exactly how it happened.”Ava sighed.“Did Domini

    — The Edge of Disobedience(Dominic’s POV)Dominic Vale was not a man who frightened easily. But when Victor walked into his office with that look on his face, Dominic immediately knew something had gone wrong.Victor shut the door quietly behind him.“Sir.”Dominic didn’t look up from the report in his hands.“Tell me she didn’t leave the mansion again.”Victor hesitated. That alone was answer enough.Dominic slowly set the file down. The room suddenly felt colder.“She left,” Victor said carefully. “About forty minutes ago.”Dominic’s jaw tightened.“With who?”“No one.”That made Dominic’s head snap up.“What do you mean no one?”Victor sighed slightly.“She followed someone.”Dominic’s eyes darkened.“Who?”Victor met his gaze.“Her sister.”For a moment, Dominic said nothing. The silence stretched long and heavy.Of course it was Vanessa.Ever since the night Ava had overheard part of the conversation outside his office, Dominic had been expecting something like this. Ava was to

    – The Shadow MeetingAVA'S POV Ava sat inside the café pretending to read the menu for the third time.Across the table, Vanessa looked completely relaxed.Too relaxed. She stirred her iced drink slowly, her manicured nails tapping lightly against the glass."You're quiet today," Vanessa said with a small smile.Ava forced herself to smile back."I'm just tired."That part wasn't a lie.She hadn't slept properly in days.Too many truths had been uncovered.Too many questions were still unanswered.Vanessa tilted her head."Dominic keeping you busy?"Ava almost laughed. If Vanessa only knew. But Ava simply shrugged."Something like that."Vanessa studied her carefully for a moment, then leaned back in her chair."You've changed."Ava's heartbeat quickened slightly."How?"Vanessa smiled faintly."You used to look… softer."Ava didn't respond.Inside, she was analyzing every movement Vanessa made.Every word.Every expression.Dominic had said Vanessa had been leaking information abou

FracturesAVA'S POV Ava couldn't sleep. The mansion was silent, but her mind refused to rest.Every word Dominic had said replayed in her head like a broken record.Auction.Bounty.Men hunting her.And the most terrifying part of all,Her parents knew. She sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the faint moonlight pouring through the tall windows. Her entire life had been a lie.She had thought marrying Dominic was the worst thing that could happen to her.Now she realized it had actually saved her.Her fingers curled tightly in the bedsheets.Dominic.Her chest tightened. He had hidden the truth from her… but at the same time he had been protecting her the entire time.Stopping the auction.Blocking the buyers.Eliminating people who tried to take her.How long had he been doing that? How long had she been walking around freely while someone in the shadows was keeping monsters away from her?Her thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on the door. She stiffened. The door slowly o

The kind of silence that made every thought echo louder. Her life had changed so fast that she barely recognized it anymore.A few weeks ago, she had been planning a wedding. Now she was married to a billionaire she barely understood, living in a mansion that felt more like a fortress, and apparently being hunted by someone powerful enough to terrify even Dominic Vale.None of it made sense. At first, Ava believed she understood why Dominic married her.Her parents had been drowning in debt. Their company was collapsing, creditors circli

The Shadow Behind the HuntDOMINIC’S POVThe warehouse smelled like rust and blood.Dominic stepped out of the car slowly, his polished shoes hitting the concrete floor with quiet authority. The dim yellow lights hanging from the ceiling flickered slightly, casting long shadows across the room.Victor stood near a metal chair in the center of the warehouse, his expression calm as always.Three men were tied to the chairs. The attackers. They didn’t look nearly as confident as they had earlier. One of them had a swollen jaw. Another had blood dripping from a cut above his eye.Dominic walked closer. The sound of his footsteps echoed in the empty building. One of the men lifted his head and froze when he recognized him.“You…” he whispered.Dominic said nothing. He simply stopped in front of them.Victor spoke first.“They were harder to crack than usual,” he said calmly. “But fear works eventually.”Dominic’s gray eyes settled on the man in the middle.“Who sent you?”The man spat bloo
