Scarlet’s POV~

McKenzie's expression changed from curiosity to concern. Her brows creased slightly as she reflected on what I had said.

“Why do you want to compensate them?” She asked in a gentle tone, her voice laced with curiosity.

“They didn't exactly treat you with kindness. Why would you want to reward them for that?”

I gave her hand a gentle squeeze, trying to keep my smile from faltering. “I just want to show them that I've risen above their cruelty. I want to prove to myself that I'm not bitter, that I can let go, plus…”

I paused, nibbling at my lower lips with a thick silence enveloping us.

“Let's just see it as a way of settling them and closing a chapter in my life,”

McKenzie exhaled deeply, her shoulders sagging. Reaching for my cheeks, she gave it a gentle stroke and said, “I’m just worried that they might open old wounds and create more problems for you, my dear,”

Shaking my head, I countered politely, “No, granny. They won't. I just want to give them this last honor and

  • Sunrise After Divorce; The Comeback Queen    Chapter 246. Tension and hidden truth

Author's POV ~Charlotte woke with the sun spilling through her curtains, a warmth in the room that contrasted sharply with the tension still hovering in her chest. She stretched, her eyes glittering with a strange excitement she couldn’t fully explain, and slid out of bed. Her hair was messy from sleep, but she barely cared. Today felt like a day she could control, like a small victory had already been won.She padded to the bathroom, brushing her teeth quickly, barely noticing the toothpaste foam on her lips. Her reflection looked the same as yesterday, the same as the day before, but inside, her mind was buzzing. She had planned everything carefully, rehearsed it perfectly. The attention, the chaos, the way everyone would look at her. It was intoxicating.By the time she reached the kitchen, she was humming softly under her breath, a tune that had nothing to do with reality. She grabbed a plate, poured herself some cereal, and sat down at the table. Her mother, Mrs Harper, was alre

  • Sunrise After Divorce; The Comeback Queen    Chapter 245. A night to clear the weight

Author's POV ~Ethan’s car cut through the city streets of New York, the headlights bouncing off wet asphalt, the hum of tires and engines underneath a sky as dark as his mood. He drove mostly in silence, his thoughts looping over the humiliation, the betrayal, the headlines, and the way the world had turned against him in a single day. Then his phone buzzed. He glanced at it, trying not to care, expecting another message from a reporter, a fan, or some stranger. Instead, it was Dylan.*“Bar near 5th and Madison. I’m here. You need someone to talk to.”*Ethan’s first instinct was to ignore it. He didn’t want to face anyone. Everyone had already judged him. Everyone had seen the story, read the posts, and believed the lies. But then he felt something deep inside, a pull he couldn’t resist. Dylan had always been the one person who would listen without judgment. If there was anyone who could understand, it would be him.He typed back, *“On my way.”*Traffic pressed around him, horns blar

  • Sunrise After Divorce; The Comeback Queen    Chapter 244. Defence

Author's POV ~Ethan turned the stereo knob until the music blasted through the car like a storm. The speakers shook, every beat hitting his chest with a force that matched the anger boiling inside him. He pressed harder on the accelerator, overtaking cars without thinking, his jaw clenched and his knuckles white around the steering wheel. He yelled once, loud and raw, the sound swallowed by the roaring music. His eyes burned but he blinked hard, refusing to let the tears fall. He told himself he had to stay strong. For himself. For his career. For Emily and Eric. His children came to his mind so clearly that it almost stopped him from breathing. Their smiles, their tiny hands grabbing his shirt, the way they’d clung to him last weekend. They’d asked him again and again if he’d really come early to get them for vacation. He’d promised. He had sworn he would. And he’d forgotten. The guilt twisted deeply in his stomach. He needed to see them now, no matter the hour. He switched lanes an

  • Sunrise After Divorce; The Comeback Queen    Chapter 243. Everything falls apart

Author's POV ~The news spread faster than Ethan imagined it could. It felt like every corner of the internet had his name in bold letters, twisted into headlines he didn’t recognize. He hadn’t slept at all. He sat on the edge of his bed with his hands pressed against his face, trying to breathe through the tightness in his chest when his phone started ringing again. This time it was his father. He hesitated for a moment before answering. “Dad.”Mr Blackwood’s voice came through, cutting through the silence. “I saw the news, Ethan. I need you to tell me the truth. Did you do what they’re saying you did.”Ethan swallowed hard. He rubbed his forehead, wishing the entire world would slow down for just one second. “No. I didn’t. Charlotte is lying. She framed me, dad. She walked into my room without my permission and staged the whole thing.”Silence sat between them for a moment. Then his father exhaled heavily and responded. “Good. Because I didn’t raise a son who would do something l

  • Sunrise After Divorce; The Comeback Queen    Chapter 242. When the road back home didn't feel like home anymore

Author's POV ~>The car moved through the city with a slow heaviness, as if even the night couldn’t make room for what had just happened. Jasmine kept both hands on the steering wheel while Charlotte stared at her profile from the passenger seat, searching for any flicker of doubt or suspicion that might betray what she was thinking. The silence in the car was thick, the kind that wasn’t peaceful but painfully aware, strained, and pulsing with unspoken thoughts.Charlotte studied the tension in Jasmine’s jawline. The way her eyes stayed on the road without blinking too long. The way she kept exhaling like she was trying to force something out of her chest. Charlotte wondered how much she actually believed, or if she had looked past the tears and the shaking voice and seen the truth that lay beneath the entire performance. The city lights blurred across the windows as they eased into traffic. Cars honked, people talked on sidewalks, buses hissed as they slowed, and yet inside the car n

  • Sunrise After Divorce; The Comeback Queen    Chapter 241. Sweet Lies

Author's POV ~Ethan froze for a moment as he watched Charlotte switch into a trembling, wounded act as if someone had flipped a switch inside her. One minute she was leaning into him and smirking and the next she was clutching her torn dress and screaming for help. His brows pulled together in disbelief. He could hardly process how fast she shifted.Charlotte grabbed the hotel phone and dialed the receptionist. Her screams echoed through the room and Ethan stared at her with a confusion that almost made him numb.“Charlotte what are you doing?” Ethan asked as he moved closer. His voice was low but tense like he was holding himself together by force. She turned to him with that cold smirk that didn’t match her forced sobs. “Since you don’t want me I have no choice,” she whispered. “I’ll ruin your reputation. Every single thing you built. If I can’t have you, no one will.”Her voice dropped into a hiss as she raised her volume again and screamed even louder. Ethan’s eyes widened and
