- MARILIA -

I felt my heart beat slower and slower until just a breath could be heard. He had one hand on my neck, the other on my shoulder. His legs spread apart and I was in the middle.

I pinned his gaze, his emerald green eyes fixed right above a nose so nicely sculpted I was tempted to bite it. His jaw was delicately cut by the gods and his broad shoulders left an exciting desire to feel his wide back. For a moment I thought he wasn't real.

I opened my mouth but no words came. I didn't know what to say to this devil; this handsome devil that I didn't mind if he ate me up. At that moment, a thought hit me; Ares looked nothing like his father. Alpha Magnums had a bad scar so one of his eyes was affected. He was three times larger and he had a crude look but the man in front of me had the softest skin and the most enchanting gaze. Anyone could mistake him for a god.

'How could someone like him be destined to destroy all realms? What the hell happened to make him a monster?’

I know I didn't want anything to do with him before but now, more than anything, I wanted to find the answers to the mystery that is Ares Klaus.

“Who sent you?” He drew out his claws and held them close to my throat. “Speak,"

“No one sent me. I just em… I… I thought the groom was here. I just want to see him before the wedding."

He held an unreadable expression. His eyes searching mine, then they went to the hairpin on the floor. “Do you really want me to believe that?” His facial hair fell seductively beside his eyes. He looked so much softer than he did in the Slaver’s den.

“For a maid, you have really smooth skin and beautiful clothes. Take my advice. Learn how to lie before you do Princess.”

I bated my breath, but it wasn't because he figured me out but because he didn't realize that I was the slave he tried to buy.

“What are you really doing here?"

I pressed my quivering lips shut. Fear vividly laced my face. He looked away from me and exhaled. His claws pulled back. He stood up and sat on his bed. I scurried off the floor immediately. Something in me found the position we took just now, unsettling.

“Please leave. You are not supposed to be here. I don't want anyone to see you here. You and my brother are to be married soon; I don't need people making brilliant guesses.”

I turned slowly and traipsed to the door. For a second, I paused, my gaze finding him. “I came because I thought the groom was here?"

He raised a brow. “What?"

“I said… I came because I thought the groom was here. I honestly wanted to see him before the wedding. I thought maybe we could reach an agreement on something. Don’t ask me what it is because I won’t tell you.” I lied again cos I knew I had to make sure he believed it.

Ares looked at the hairpin momentarily. “I don’t need to ask. I already know you didn't come for pillow talk.”

I opened my mouth but no words came so I pursed them shut

“You don't need to say anything. For freedom, a person can even do the insane. I will tell you though, there is no such thing as freedom. Let's say you succeeded to kill the groom and end your forced marriage, would it change that someone will always control your life?”

There was a disquiet silence after that question. I knew that I had pricked him where it hurt.

“You look pretty free to me." I said, spurning around and facing him. He looked away; his eyes traced the moonlight that crept into the room from the only open window. He sighed softly.

“You too. I guess… looks can be deceiving; very, very deceiving.”

I lost all the words I wanted to say after that so I just stared at him. He was gloomy but he tried to hide it. For a moment, I wanted to comfort him and to ask him what had happened to him but my legs seemed to have a mind of its own; It carried me out of his room immediately. I head straight for my chambers, walking tiredly. I looked towards the groom’s room, unconsciously. In the distance, a shadow opened his door and stepped outside. It looked in my direction. I hid immediately. It must be the groom. I don't want him to see me and realize I am coming from the angle of his brother's room.

Carefully I took a peep. He was gone. "Pewww” I rose and hurried off.

My eyes went to the clock immediately I shut my door. It was some hours before dawn. I threw myself on the bed, my thoughts drifting to the encounter with the Klaus prince. I sighed heavily.

‘Perhaps his ordeal is the reason the goddess was so certain I couldn't kill him.’

I closed my eyes trying to picture his face again…. Something strange and loud resounded through the palace, breaking into my reverie. It was Bells. Large bells rang from the outside. The sound of clanging doors filled the passages. I sprang up from my bed, racing to the Open window.

My heart palpitating.

The uproar outside and the eerie feeling in the air, gave me a really bad feeling in my gut. Torch lights flashed from corner to corner; wolves shifting and racing off to different directions. There must have been a security breach. I felt a sudden urge to know what was going on. I fought it but my curiosity always wins.

Immediately I touched the door knob, some one's wail awoke every being in the palace.

My heart stopped.

The voice grew louder, scarier.

"The groom is dead!! The groom is dead!!"

  • Survival Game of a Fake Luna    THE OBJECTION

–ARES–I hated this woman.I hated her guts and the way she didn't seem to think before she spoke or acted. I hated those grey eyes that always gazed so boldly into mine, with no regard at all for the sheer difference in our ranks. I hated the way she got under my skin and drove me crazy even by doing nothing, how she somehow knew the exact buttons to push to make me lose control.I hated that she was yet another weapon for my father to hold over my head. But goddess, I was having a hard time remembering any of that as I watched her walk down the aisle towards me.I couldn't see her face, which was honestly fortunate because what I could see was already doing enough damage. The flowing dress fit her like a glove, silk falling over her curves in a way that had to be illegal.Sunlight from the stained glass windows washed over her, bathing her veiled form in a golden glow. It was like I was being approached by the goddess herself. What a ridiculous thought to have. This whole thing was

  • Survival Game of a Fake Luna    WEDDING MY ENEMY

–MARILIA– 'Hurray, Marilia,' I thought drily as I stared into the mirror. 'It's your wedding day.'I didn't know much about weddings, except that at the end the groom and bride became husband and wife. Whenever there was one back in my hometown, the other young women would always gush about the preparations while I seized the slightest opportunity to escape and do something else. Since my experience with romance was a grand total of zero, I couldn't help finding the atmosphere too awkward.Still, I knew enough to know that it was supposed to be a joyous day. That, while getting dressed in your bridal attire, you shouldn't be filled with dread. After what happened at the courtyard, I had spent the next few days avoiding Ares. From the way he looked at me, I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me just how badly he wanted to kill me. It was becoming increasingly clear to me that my supposed status as Princess Marlene wasn't enough to keep me safe.'If only you didn't run your mouth,' that

  • Survival Game of a Fake Luna    WHAT HAVE I DONE?

    – MARILIA –What have I done?Somewhere at the back of my mind, I never truly believed that Alpha Magnums would harm me. I feared it, of course, but I never considered it an actual possibility. After all, he thought I was Princess Marlene, and it would benefit him to tie me to his son. He can't do that if I'm dead. So although I kept my guard up the entire time I was around him, I was also convinced that he had no reason to kill me.Until now.The look on his face could not be described as anything but murderous. I took several steps backwards, completely abandoning propriety. He was so angry that his face seemed to be going purple as he stalked towards me and seized my upper arm before I could react."What did you say?" he demanded. His claws were digging into my flesh, and when I struggled to pull away, he shook me so hard that my teeth rattled."What did you just say to me?!" he roared. In that moment, looking into those eyes blackened by rage, I saw my life flash before my eyes. W

  • Survival Game of a Fake Luna    A WALK WITH THE ALPHA

    – MARILIA–My whole body froze, my heart beating so loudly, it was a shock that he couldn't hear it. Nothing could have prepared me to stand face to face with the man who murdered my family, here in this lonely garden with no one else for miles. I had imagined confronting him, of course. Time without number, I had kept myself awake with the angry thoughts. I told myself that if I ever got him alone, I would attack him when he least expected, tear out his throat, and get revenge for my family. But now that the man was actually in front of me, my body refused to move. I gulped, clenching sweaty hands into a fist to keep them from shaking. Even if he Shifted right now and attacked me, I don't think I would be able to do more than cower in terror. The man was terrifying.First of all, he was so huge that he towered over me, and his flat black eyes had no emotion in them. So when he gave me a smile that was probably supposed to be charismatic, it just came across as deeply unsettling."Pri

  • Survival Game of a Fake Luna    REALIZATION

    – MARILIA–Ares was snarling something close to my face, but I could barely hear him. Not with the way he was squeezing my neck so tightly like he wanted to snap it. I didn't think he wanted to kill me— since there wasn't any way it would benefit him— but at this rate, he might end up doing it.The thought filled me with more determination to fight. Black spots were filling my vision, and my lungs were burning with lack of air.'Damn it,' I thought desperately. 'I am not going to die here. I didn't survive this long just so this man could kill me.'"Let go…" I choked out. "You're… killing me…"Miraculously, the words seemed to pierce the fog of his anger. His hand released me and I dropped to the floor, clutching my neck as I gasped for air. He glared at me one last time before turning his back."Leave," he snapped. "While I still feel like letting you go."I didn't need to be told twice. I scrambled to my feet, wincing with pain. There were bruises where my body had struck the ground

  • Survival Game of a Fake Luna    THE CONFRONTATION

    - ARES -By the time the red haze cleared from my eyes, the guestroom I occupied looked like a hurricane had dropped by to say hello. Every single picture that hung on the walls had been swept to the floor, the frames cracked so badly I doubted they could be repaired. There was broken glass everywhere, a coffee table had been split in two down the middle, and my fist was bleeding profusely where I had put it through the television screen.Yet the anger still smoldered in my heart, the embers low yet every bit as hot as it was when I first read that note from Father. He hadn't even bothered to tell me the news to my face. To have that much decency, at least. Just had a servant send me a note that said the wedding date would not be pushed back. That everything would continue as planned, without even so much as a memorial for Ryder. As if he had never existed at all. Even though I pleaded with him not to pull something like this.To grant Ryder at least that much respect.I had to order
