Alice’s POV

The car door closed behind in a loud thud. Even the silence inside was so loud.

Klaus’ jaw tightened, like something deep was bothering him.

I stole a glance at him. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I asked “Who is she?”

“Who?”

My furrowed. “Sophia Grey.”

Suddenly, the atmosphere changed. He shifted his gaze to the window, completely ignoring me.

“Klaus,” I pressed, softer this time. “That woman…she looks like me.”

Immediately, something flickered in his eyes. It wasn’t just fear,

Klaus’ POVI watched Alice as she walked out of the house and an unsettling feeling rose in my chest. Alice was acting strange. First, she asked questions about the Magnus family, then she openly confronted me about acting nervous at the event and now…she was lying to me. A small memory flashed in my head. That day when Alice was hiding something behind her, I saw something like a brown box. Hold on, could that be a package? My eyes flew open as realization crossed my features. No. No. No. Was it possible Alice had actually received a package? Even if she did, why didn’t she show me? And who could have sent it? I swallowed hard. Damn it. What if Jackson had sent something to Alice? Something that would lead her closer to the truth? My fingers trembled as I dialed Damien’s number. I stood from the chair and walked towards the window. Alice’s car was already leaving the driveway and my eyes followed it until it disappeared through the gates. “Damien.”“Boss, we still haven’t found a

Alice’s POVI could barely sleep that night as I repeatedly tossed and turned on the bed. My eyes stayed wide open, staring widely at the ceiling. What if everything I knew about myself was a lie? Memories of Klaus' words rang in my mind. “Make sure she never finds out.” What did he mean by that? And why was he so desperate to keep me in the dark? My toes curled tightly under the sheets as everything replayed in my head. The more I tried to convince myself that everything was a coincidence, the less I believed myself. The package, the baby picture, Sophia’s striking resemblance and Klaus. The DNA test was ready and at that thought my pulse couldn’t help but pounce heavily in my chest. After flipping the pillow and kicking off the blankets numerous times, I surprisingly fell asleep. The next morning, I woke up feeling a bit weak. Before I could stand up to freshen up, the door swung open. “Good morning, wife.”Klaus was putting on a grey shirt which complimented his eyes. His hair

Alice’s POV“Come here, Alice,” Klaus commanded. His voice was sharp and clean, leaving no room for arguments. I glanced at Sophia briefly, giving her an apologetic look before walking to Klaus. His jaw tightened as he grabbed my hand. “I told you to stay exactly where you were. Why did you leave?” “Since when do I have no freedom of movement?”He didn’t respond but frustration clouded his eyes. Klaus had always been obscure, but now his emotions were too easy to read. “Do you know her?”He turned. “Who are you talking about?”“Margaret Blackwood.”I could swear I saw a flicker of something in Klaus’ eyes but it disappeared almost immediately. He was wary of Margaret, but why?He sighed. “I’ve met her.”“And that’s just it?”“She’s quite popular in the business world. Also, she’s your ex-fiancé’s mother. So of course I’ve heard about her.”I narrowed my eyes. Did he really think I’d buy his story? It was obvious he was lying and he knew more than he was willing to show. “Why are

Alice’s POVAfter I and Klaus walked into the event, I spottedSophia Grey. She was clad in a red vintage gown that flowed behind her, making her more bold and elegant. She was happily chatting with a woman and my interest was piqued. The moment I saw the person she was with, my eyes widened. It was Michael's mother, Margaret Blackwood. The way Sophia relaxed and chatted freely with her made my brows furrow. They seemed pretty…close. Too close. But why? Could they be business partners? Or possibly more? The image of that package flashed in my mind. My fingers tightened around my glass. Margaret was a woman whose ego was bigger than the hall. And worse, she never liked me even while I was still Michael’s fiancée. But still, what does she have to do with me? “Alice, I’ll be right back,” Klaus said, a flicker of fear and unease crossing his features. I nodded my head, barely paying attention to his words. Then, he left, which made me relieved. Now, I could speak to Sophia. I needed to

Klaus’ POVAlice had been acting strangely ever since that question about the Magnus family. It was as if she knew something. My heart tightened at the thought. How could she even have any knowledge about that family? They were totally erased and forgotten. Could it be that it was Sophia? No. It can’t be. Sophia would never dare because she hated what we did to them.So what was happening? I need to do something quick. I picked up my phone, calling Damien. Skipping pleasantries, I asked. “Has Alice had any recent interaction with Sophia Grey.”“None that I’m aware of. But maybe we could track her phone to see who she has been speaking to.”“You’re right,” I sighed. “But I don’t want to invade my wife’s privacy.”Damien paused. “Boss, since when did you start caring about such trivial things?”He was right. I’ve never cared about such things. I had always been selfish and inconsiderate. But now, I was just a man in love. For a moment, I wasn’t able to give a reply. “Fine. You can go

Alice’s POV For several seconds, there was silence on the other end. “Alice…are you sure?”I took a deep breath. “Yes.”“Once we do this, it might change everything.”“I know.” I tightened my grip around the phone “What’s the next course of action?”“We can’t meet openly because of Klaus, so we have to strategize.”I paused before saying. “I’ll send you the location where we can see. All you just need to do is to get your doctor ready.”“Understood. See you tomorrow.”After ending the call, my mind was a mess. Why was Klaus so desperate to stop me? What could the DNA test possibly reveal that would ruin everything? My gaze landed on my wedding ring. Yes, I loved Klaus. But why was he hiding things from me?The next morning, I woke up and freshened up. Then, immediately went downstairs to get breakfast. The moment I spotted Klaus sitting in the dining room, my heart skipped a beat. I quickly pressed my lips into a thin line and kept my arms locked at my sides. Klaus lifted his head,
