Chapter 15

Gu Ruoruo looked as stunning as she did before in her black gown, but what caught everyone else's attention was the necklace that rested on her collarbones.

It was a dark-blue gem encircled by countless smaller diamonds. The design was very unique, and the top-notch craftsmanship made it obvious that this necklace was extremely expensive.

No one was more familiar with this necklace than Tang Ruochu. This necklace used to belong to her mother, who had specially prepared this necklace as her future dowry.

She couldn't believe that Gu Ruoruo had the nerve to wear this necklace!

She was so overwhelmed with rage that her anger completely robbed her of her ability to think logically.

She walked through the crowd angrily and marched right up to Gu Ruoruo. She leveled a furious glare at Gu Ruoruo before she said icily, "Who gave you the right to touch that necklace? Give it back right now! It belonged to my mom!"

"Your mom has already passed away. Now that my mom is the true mistress of the Tang household, this necklace should rightfully belong to her. It is now part of my dowry!" Gu Ruoruo said with a cold smirk. She clearly had no intention of returning the necklace.

Tang Ruochu's face darkened as she said, "This was a gift from my mom. I'll say this once more, return the necklace to me!"

"What are you going to do if I refuse? Are you going to snatch this necklace from me in public?" Gu Ruoruo said boldly as she puffed her chest up.

"Do you really think I won't do so?" Tang Ruochu said as she reached for the necklace.

Before her hand could reach the necklace, Gu Ruoruo stumbled backward as though she had been pushed. She lost her balance and fell to the ground.

Silence fell upon the entire ballroom and everyone stared at her.

She sat on the ground and exclaimed in fake surprise, "Ruochu, I know that you have feelings for Yinfeng, but he is your brother-in-law. Even if... even if I said something that upset you, how could you push me? What if... you end up hurting my unborn child? What are you going to do?"

"I..." Tang Ruochu froze on the spot and her face turned extremely pale.

She knew that she had fallen into Gu Ruoruo's trap.

Ji Yinfeng rushed over, pushed Tang Ruochu aside, and looked at her coldly as he said, "Tang Ruochu, how could you be so vicious as to hurt your sister when you knew about her pregnancy? Don't even think about winning my heart. Your sister is the one who I've always been in love with. Stop harassing me and making a complete fool out of yourself!"

Tang Ruochu was already numb with pain but she felt as though someone had just given her a tight slap across the face when she heard Ji Yinfeng's words.

She was so furious that she wanted to give them a round of applause.

They were clearly made for each other. Their acting skills were so brilliant that they deserved to win an Oscar!

The guests started to chatter excitedly among themselves.

"Wow, is she the sister of the bride? How dare she attempt to seduce her sister's fiancé?"

"She's so shameless. Gu Ruoruo is so unlucky to be saddled with a sister like her."

"I'm not surprised. The young master of the Ji family is so outstanding that I can't blame her for falling for him. But hasn't she gone too far by attempting to seduce him when he is her sister's fiancé and hitting her own sister?"

The guests looked at Tang Ruochu disdainfully and didn't hide the contempt in their voices.

"Haha, you were totally made for each other!" Tang Ruochu's face was pale as she spoke. She barked out an angry laugh before she continued, "Ji Yinfeng, who gave you the guts to say those words? How could you accuse me of harassing you when you were my fiancé just a few days ago? Have you forgotten that fact? Shall I also remind you that we were supposed to be married today? Haha, you may be shameless but you should know where to draw the line!"

Ji Yinfeng didn't expect Tang Ruochu to blurt out the truth. His face turned pale as he said, "Tang Ruochu, stop spouting nonsense! When was I ever your fiancé? Stop living in your own fantasies!"

"Ruochu, how could you bring yourself to say such words? Yinfeng and I have always been very much in love with each other. I wouldn't be pregnant with his child otherwise. You've gone too far this time with your slanderous words," Gu Ruoruo said with a hurt look.

She cleverly avoided mentioning how she had stolen Ji Yinfeng and insisted that they were clearly in love, so her words could be easily misconstrued.

The guests talked in hushed whispers. This grand engagement party had suddenly turned into a huge family feud. Everyone felt as though this was more exciting than a primetime melodrama.

"Ruochu, you're in the wrong this time. I know you like Yinfeng, but now that he has chosen to marry Ruoruo, please stop saying such slanderous words," Ji Yinfeng's mother, Qin Silian, said and stood up for her son.

Her choice of words was more subtle but she was clearly damaging Tang Ruochu's reputation as well.

Tang Ruochu turned pale.

She sensed that everyone started to look at her differently after Qin Silian's words. They looked at her with even more contempt, and each gaze seemed like a sharp arrow that pierced through her.

She stood all alone in the ballroom and was left completely helpless.
