HUDSON'S POV:

Harper was deep asleep, her face tucked into my chest, one hand curled against my ribs. The bedroom was still dark. Last night she had fallen asleep in the middle of our conversation, her fingers hooked in my shirt, and I had stayed awake long after that just to look at her.

I brushed a curl off her cheek and caught myself smiling at nothing.

I couldn't believe it. Me, lying next to this woman, in a bed, awake, with an entire night that belonged to us. Every soft, warm, ridiculo

  • TAMING MR. WHITMORE: THE CEO FROM HELL.   CHAPTER 41: OFFICIAL FIRST DAY IN THE LAB.

HARPER'S POV:I missed Hudson in the most annoying, specific ways.Sunday night, I stood at the window with my phone in my hand and typed "miss you." Deleted it. Typed "hope your day was good." Deleted that too. Typed "did you eat," and deleted it faster than the others, because I sounded like his mother. He had texted "Goodnight, baby" at 10:41. I had answered "Goodnight" and then watched the screen for ten full minutes, waiting for three little dots that never came.He was a man who respected my rules. That was the problem. I had told him no complications, and now I couldn't exactly text him to say I was complicating them.So Monday morning, I got dressed like a professional, put my phone in my bag, and did not text him. I walked twenty minutes from the estate gate to Whitmore Robotics with my chin up and my thumbs clenched. I only checked it once. Okay. Three times. The lobby smelled like coffee and warm electronics. The giant robotic clock on the wall clicked toward 7:58, its gear

  • TAMING MR. WHITMORE: THE CEO FROM HELL.   CHAPTER 40: THE NEWS I DIDN'T WANT.

HUDSON'S POV:By ten, Adrian and I were in a private booth at the Cascade Range, a members only club tucked into the hills outside the city. It had a leather couch, a mounted television playing a muted cooking show, a remote on the low table, and a bar cart with a bottle of Macallan sweating in an ice bucket beside two crystal glasses. Ear protection hung on pegs along the wall. Beyond the glass, the paper targets stood fifty yards down the lane.We had already fired a round each. Adrian leaned against the counter in a gray quarter zip with his safety glasses pushed up into his hair, wiping down his pistol with a cloth, the sharp smell of gun oil filling the booth."How have you been?" I asked, lifting my glass."Stressful." He smiled that tired smile. "As always. Headquarters has been a circus. Dad has the board breathing down my neck about the Flight contract, and every meeting turns into a referendum on whether I can close a deal.""You can close a deal.""Tell that to Dad.""You s

I brushed a curl off her cheek and caught myself smiling at nothing. I couldn't believe it. Me, lying next to this woman, in a bed, awake, with an entire night that belonged to us. Every soft, warm, ridiculous inch of her was mine, and I had no idea what to do with that kind of luck. I tried to slide out from under her arm. She wrapped her legs around me tighter. I chuckled under my breath. "Look at you," I whispered. "You were the one running from me. Now you won't let me out of bed." She mumbled incoherently and burrowed deeper. I leaned down and kissed her forehead. Then, one at a time, I unwound her arms and her legs, slowly, holding my breath. I slid a pillow into the space where I had bee

  • TAMING MR. WHITMORE: THE CEO FROM HELL.   CHAPTER 38: NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH.

HARPER'S POV:I looked at his hands, big and still, as he swirled his wine and watched it settle. "We can't prove that. Not yet."I exhaled and thought about it hard. If I had asked a machine a question, and the machine had answered, that was a breakthrough. If I had asked a question, and the man at the other end had felt it, that was just two people in a room who happened to be miles apart."Well," I said. "We'll see. That's what I'm there for. To work.""Shawn will run a test next week without me connected.""And if it doesn't react?""Then it was me." He looked at me over the rim of his glass. I gave him my best serious face and it lasted about two seconds before I broke. "SOREN is so cool. I touched his face.""You did. You inspected every inch of him.""Because he reminded me of you immediately! The only difference is the face. The height, voice and charisma are same with you. I thought I was losing my mind! I told Mila it felt like you were in the room! I told my friends it was

  • TAMING MR. WHITMORE: THE CEO FROM HELL.   CHAPTER 37: MY BOYFRIEND IS MY BOSS.

HARPER'S POV:I was happy to see Hudson again. More than happy. I'd told myself that if we ever crossed paths again, I'd call it fate.Apparently, fate had a sense of humor.Except some things weren't adding up. He knew too much about here. Or, again, was I overanalyzing things?Damn me for being an overthinker. Still, I needed to be sure about the man I was getting into a relationship with."Hudson," I said, legs dangling off the island, the stone cold through my leggings. "I need the truth."He took a step back. His eyes stayed on me."I haven't been entirely honest with you."My hands dropped into my lap. I sat up straight and tried to remember how breathing worked."Harper. Promise you won't be mad."Who was I kidding? I'd just confessed to a week of fake name. I was in no position to be mad at anybody."I won't," I said, in the calmest voice I owned. "I just want honesty. You asked for it. If we're doing this, we're doing this."He nodded. He crossed his arms, uncrossed them, sho

  • TAMING MR. WHITMORE: THE CEO FROM HELL.   CHAPTER 36: SHE CAUGHT ME THIS TIME.

HUDSON'S POV:I put the fork down. I closed my eyes. And I swear, honest to God, I saw stars. I employ a chef who trained in Lyon, a nutritionist who weighs my almonds, and a man whose sole job is to taste my food before I do, and not one of them had ever made anything that tasted this good."Holy shit," I said."Is it okay?""Harper, this is." I opened my eyes. "I could eat this for the rest of my life. I'm serious. Put it on my tombstone."She burst out laughing, covering her mouth. "Okay, okay, thank you. My mom taught me how to cook when I was little. This is her recipe. She used to make it every Sunday.""Where is she now? I'd love to meet her. I want to thank her."The fork slipped out of Harper's hand and clattered against her plate. Her face changed. The light drained out of it, and her eyes dropped to the counter."She died," she said quietly. "She died giving birth to Nicole."My chest tightened. "Harper. I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry.""It's okay." She gave me a small, tir
