Aria — POV

If there was one thing I knew for sure, it was this:

When life gets messy, run.

And after Damon Blackthorn declared me his mate in front of my entire family, “messy” didn’t even begin to cover it.

Lilith was screaming into a pillow.

My mother was crying on the floor.

My father was trying to revive her with a shoe.

Damon was staring at me like I was the last slice of cake in the universe.

Nope.

Absolutely not.

I was not doing this.

So I did the only logical thing.

I ran.

Not dramatically.

Not gracefully.

Just turned around and walked out the back door like I was going to check the mail.

“ARIA!” Lilith shrieked. “Where do you think you’re going?!”

“Away,” I called over my shoulder. “Far, far away.”

My mother screamed, “You ungrateful child!”

My father yelled, “Come back here!”

Damon growled, “Aria.”

I ignored all of them.

I marched across the backyard, climbed the fence like a feral cat, and dropped to the other side.

Freedom.

Peace.

Silence.

I took one deep breath—

And then a shadow fell over me.

I turned slowly.

Damon stood there.

Already.

Like he teleported.

His arms crossed.

His jaw tight.

His eyes dark.

“Aria.”

I blinked. “How did you get here so fast?”

“I’m an Alpha.”

“Well, I’m a girl who wants a nap. We all have our strengths.”

His nostrils flared. “You ran from me.”

“I walked,” I corrected. “Fast.”

“You ran.”

“Fine. I jogged emotionally.”

He stepped closer. “Why?”

“Because I don’t want drama,” I said. “And you? You’re a walking season finale.”

His jaw clenched. “You can’t run from the bond.”

“Watch me.”

I turned to walk away again.

He caught my wrist — gently, but firmly enough to stop me.

“Aria,” he said, voice low, “don’t test me.”

I raised a brow. “Is that a threat?”

“It’s a warning.”

“Well, here’s mine,” I said. “Let go or I bite.”

He blinked. “You bite?”

“Emotionally. Sometimes physically.”

His lips twitched like he was fighting a smile. “You’re unbelievable.”

“Thank you,” I said. “I try.”

Behind us, voices exploded.

Lilith, my mother, and half the neighborhood had gathered at the fence like it was a live show.

“There she is!”

“She’s running from the Alpha!”

“Shameless girl!”

“Ungrateful!”

“Disrespectful!”

“Embarrassing!”

I turned to them and smiled sweetly.

“Good morning, everyone. Please remember to mind your business today.”

Gasps.

Offended whispers.

Someone clutched their pearls.

Lilith pointed at me like she was calling the police. “Damon! See?! She’s rude! She’s disrespectful! She’s—”

“Honest,” I said. “Try it sometime.”

Lilith screamed.

My mother yelled, “Aria, apologize!”

“For what?” I asked. “Existing?”

“Yes!” she snapped.

I shrugged. “Sorry. Can’t help you there.”

Damon’s grip tightened slightly. “Aria, enough.”

I looked at him. “You’re angry.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“You ran.”

“I told you,” I said. “I don’t want drama.”

“You ARE drama,” he said.

I gasped. “How dare you.”

He stepped closer, eyes burning. “You think running will make this easier?”

“Yes.”

“It won’t.”

“I can try.”

“You can’t.”

“Watch me.”

I tried to walk away again.

He pulled me back again.

The crowd gasped again.

Lilith screamed again.

My mother fainted again.

My father sighed again.

Damon leaned down, voice low and dangerous. “Aria. Stop running.”

I looked him dead in the eyes.

“No.”

His jaw flexed. “Why are you like this?”

“Because I died last night,” I said. “And when you die, you realize something important.”

His eyes sharpened. “What?”

“I don’t owe anyone anything.”

He stared at me.

Really stared.

Like he was seeing something no one else ever bothered to look for.

Then he said, quietly:

“You owe yourself peace.”

I blinked.

That… was not what I expected.

I swallowed. “Exactly. And you? You’re not peaceful.”

He smirked. “I can be.”

“No, you can’t.”

“Try me.”

I shook my head. “Damon, I don’t want to be Luna. I don’t want a mate. I don’t want a pack. I want a quiet life.”

“You won’t have one,” he said. “Not with what’s coming.”

I froze. “What’s coming?”

He hesitated.

Then he said, “You didn’t just… change, Aria. Something happened to you.”

My wolf shivered.

I stepped back. “I don’t want to talk about that.”

“You’ll have to.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

We glared at each other like two stubborn toddlers.

Behind us, Lilith screamed, “Damon! Pick me! Not her!”

He didn’t even look at her.

He looked at me.

Only me.

“Aria,” he said softly, “you can run all you want. I’ll still find you.”

I rolled my eyes. “That’s creepy.”

“It’s the bond.”

“It’s still creepy.”

He smirked. “Come back inside.”

“No.”

“Aria.”

“No.”

“Aria.”

“No.”

He sighed. “Fine.”

Then he picked me up.

Over his shoulder.

Like a sack of potatoes.

I screamed. “PUT ME DOWN!”

“No.”

“Damon!”

“No.”

“THIS IS KIDNAPPING!”

“Technically,” he said, “it’s mate retrieval.”

I kicked my legs. “I hate you!”

“You don’t.”

“I DO!”

“You don’t.”

The crowd cheered like it was a wrestling match.

Lilith fainted.

My mother screamed.

My father prayed.

And me?

I hung over Damon’s shoulder, kicking, yelling, and absolutely refusing to admit the truth:

I didn’t hate him.

I hated the chaos.

But Damon?

He was the chaos.

And somehow…

I was starting to think I might survive it.

  • THE ALPHA CHOOSE THE WRONG SISTER     CHAPTER ELEVEN: Outside Her Door

Damon — POVThe door didn’t just close. It shut me out.The soft click of the lock echoed down the hallway like a gunshot. It was ridiculous how such a tiny sound could hit me so hard, but it did. It punched straight into my chest, sharp and unexpected, leaving me standing there like an idiot staring at a piece of wood. She locked me out.Again.My wolf reacted instantly, claws scraping against the inside of my skin.Mate is hurting.“I know.”Mate needs us.“I know.”Open the door.“No.”Break it.“Absolutely not.”He growled, pacing inside me like a storm trapped in a cage. He hated distance. He hated barriers. He hated anything that separated us from her. And right now, that thin wooden door felt like a mountain.I pressed my palm against it, feeling the faint warmth of her presence on the other side. Her heartbeat was fast — too fast. Her breathing uneven. She was trying to hide it, but I could hear everything.“Aria,” I said quietly, “I’m not leaving.”Silence.Not even a sarcast

Aria — POVI left the garden with Luna Selene’s words echoing in my head like a heartbeat I didn’t know how to quiet. You are not a mistake. You are chosen.Your power is awakening. It should have made me feel strong. It should have made me feel hopeful. It should have made me feel… something good.Instead, I felt heavy.Like someone had placed a stone on my chest.I wasn’t used to kindness.I wasn’t used to being seen.I wasn’t used to being told I mattered. My parents never said things like that. They said the opposite.Every day.So hearing Luna Selene speak to me like I was worth something…It hurt in a way I didn’t know how to explain.I walked back into the pack house quietly, my steps slow, my mind spinning. And that’s when Damon appeared. He stepped out from behind a pillar like he’d been waiting for me — which, knowing him, he probably had.His eyes scanned my face immediately, sharp and searching.“You’re quiet,” he said.I kept walking. He followed.“You’re never quiet.”I

  • THE ALPHA CHOOSE THE WRONG SISTER    Chapter Nine: The Garden, The Power, and The Truth

---Aria — POVBreakfast ended with me eating half the bread basket, Rylan nearly choking twice, Damon staring at me like I was a riddle he couldn’t solve, and Luna Selene smiling at me like she knew something I didn’t.Which, honestly, she probably did.“Aria,” she said gently, “come find me in the garden when you’re done.”I nodded, pretending to be calm.Inside, my stomach was doing backflips. Not because I feared her — okay, maybe a little — but because I knew how this usually went.Adults didn’t call me aside to praise me.They didn’t call me aside to encourage me.They didn’t call me aside to help me.They called me aside to tell me I was a burden.A disappointment.A mistake. My parents had trained me well.So as I followed Luna Selene through the glass doors into the garden, I braced myself for the worst. The garden was beautiful — blooming roses, winding stone paths, sunlight filtering through tall trees. Birds chirped. A fountain trickled softly. It was peaceful.Too peacefu

  • THE ALPHA CHOOSE THE WRONG SISTER    Chapter Eight: Lilith POV — The Summoning & The Queen’s Request

Lilith — POVNight fell like a curtain, heavy and suffocating.Perfect.Darkness suited me tonight.I stood at the edge of the forest behind our house, the summoning stone clutched in my hand. It pulsed faintly, like a heartbeat — cold, steady, hungry.Just like me.The moonlight filtered through the trees, casting long shadows across the ground. The air smelled of pine, damp earth, and something else…Opportunity.I closed my eyes and breathed in.Aria was at the pack house right now.Eating at Damon’s table.Sitting beside him.Laughing with his mother.Being accepted. While I stood here, alone, humiliated, forgotten.No.Not forgotten. Not for long.I tightened my grip on the stone until my knuckles turned white.“Aria,” I whispered, “your time is running out.”The stone vibrated in my palm.My wolf stirred uneasily. This is dangerous.“I know,” I whispered. “That’s the point.”I lifted the stone to my chest, closed my eyes, and focused.Just like Father taught me.Just like Mother

  • THE ALPHA CHOOSE THE WRONG SISTER    Chapter Seven: The Beginning of the End

Lilith — POVI didn’t cry on the way to my room.I refused to.Crying was for weak girls.Girls like Aria. Not me.I kept my chin high, my steps sharp, my face cold. I walked through the house like a queen returning from war — even though I’d lost. But the moment I stepped into my room and shut the door, the truth hit me like a slap.Damon chose her.Her.Aria.The useless one.The clumsy one.The one Mother always hid when guests came. The one Father called “a mistake we couldn’t return.”My throat tightened. My vision blurred. I pressed my hands against the dresser, breathing hard. This wasn’t happening. It couldn’t be happening.I was raised for Damon.Trained for Damon.Prepared for Damon.I was supposed to be Luna. Not Aria.Never Aria.A scream tore out of me before I could stop it. I grabbed the nearest perfume bottle and threw it against the wall. It shattered, glass scattering across the floor like glittering shards of my future.Mother burst into my room without knocking, he

Aria — POVWalking beside Damon felt like walking next to a thundercloud with muscles. He was silent.Focused.Annoyed.Probably plotting how to tie me to a chair so I’d stop running.Meanwhile, I was thinking about food.“Do you have bread?” I asked.Damon blinked. “Bread?”“Yes. Or meat. Or something edible. I’m starving.”“You died,” he said. “Of course you’re hungry.”I glared at him. “Stop saying it like it’s normal.”Rylan, walking behind us, snorted. “It’s normal for her now.”I kicked backward. He dodged.Damon sighed. “Both of you behave.”“I am behaving,” I said.“No, you’re not.”“I’m behaving for me.”“That’s the problem.”We reached a pair of tall double doors carved with wolves and moons. Damon paused.“My parents are inside,” he said.I froze.“Your… parents?”“Yes.”“As in… the Alpha King and Luna Queen?”“Yes.”My stomach dropped so fast it hit the floor. My wolf whimpered. Be nice. BE NICE.I smoothed my hoodie, fixed my hair, and tried to look like someone who hadn’
