LOGINCHAPTER TWO
After gently settling the trembling girl on the ground,
Ryker’s blazing eyes immediately turned to the men lying on the ground.
Walking coldly toward them, he raised one of the trembling man’s hands and asked coldly,
“Which hand did you just touch her with?” his face grim, like a grim reaper.
When they didn’t respond, he calmly broke each of their limbs.
Although his face was devoid of any emotion except calmness, Ember could clearly see the anger and jealousy that were barely contained in his eyes.
And it broke her.
The fact that she had spent three years trying to see any of this emotion was heartbreaking.
Even when thugs tried to harass her, he didn’t show any emotion. Rather, he handled it calmly, as if he were dealing with an unsolved business problem.
Even when she openly flirted with other men,
He simply calmly looked at her and dragged her back.
Nothing she did ever evoked the emotion she dearly desired from him.
Yet here he was, looking like someone had punched him right in the gut.
It appeared he wasn’t really born without emotion; he simply didn’t love her.
“Ryker, stop. Please, I’m scared,” the little white Lotus said weakly, her hands wrapped around her knees.
Her voice was barely a whisper, but that was enough for Ryker to hear, as he immediately rushed back to gather her in his arms, his face full of worry and anxiousness.
“I’m scared, Ryker…”
“Don’t worry. I’m here. Let’s take you to the hospital.”
Without looking back or caring about the people around him, he carried her in his arms and rushed off.
Someone who didn’t know might think his wife was due for labor, with the way his face was filled with panic and worry.
Ember wanted to laugh.
It was ironic.
What was even more ironic was the fact that he had just walked past her without even realizing she was standing there.
To everyone, he was an unfeeling iceberg, a cold Alpha, but just for this woman, he became a sea of emotions.
She was a woman,
And she knew exactly when a man looked at a woman with love.
That was exactly the way her unfeeling husband had been looking at his little Lotus.
“Ember, are you okay?” Her friend Pearl approached her, worry written all over her face.
Ember wiped the trail of tears she didn’t even know when they had fallen and forced a smile.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she replied.
Around them, the people standing there whispered in groups while looking at her. Although it was discreet, Ember could hear all their words clearly, and each word broke her heart.
“Isn’t she the Luna?”
“What’s she doing standing there?”
“Her husband just took his first love out.”
“First love?”
“Yeah, that Linda Carol—his childhood sweetheart, the one he’s madly in love with and would have married. She’s back now.”
Childhood sweetheart?
Married?
What was going on?
Seeing Ember’s heartbroken face, Pearl immediately led her out.
Once in the car, after taking several breaths, she faced Pearl.
“I need every piece of information about that girl,” Ember said.
Pearl wanted to ask, Are you okay? But seeing how moody Ember looked, she chose to stay quiet instead. Ember Valen was dangerous when she was like this.
After a few clicks on her phone, Pearl found what she was looking for.
“Linda Carol, the only daughter of Mr. Carol, who was known as a traitor. She was Mr. Ryker’s childhood sweetheart, but due to her family background and the fact that she’s a traitor’s daughter, the Hale family didn’t accept her. Linda threatened her life by cutting her wrists and eloped with Ryker to a far place. But eventually, after the Hale family repeatedly threatened to kill Linda and asked him to choose between a marriage of status or her death, Ryker came back home and married you.”
Ember felt her bones turn cold.
For once, she thought she had someone who loved her.
Someone who cared about her.
But the fact that he married her just to protect his loved one was something Ember couldn’t accept.
She loved Ryker, yes.
But being used as a tool wasn’t pleasant.
She could have patiently waited to melt his icy heart,
Tried to see him love her insanely.
But the fact that he loved someone else—
The fact that his heart was already given to another woman—
Yet he gave her fake love,
Made her believe their marriage was real and true,
Made her believe she could melt his heart.
All this made Ember’s heart twist painfully.
It hurt.
But nothing hurt more than being used as a tool.
She was Ember Valen,
The girl who was wild and scandalous.
She loved Ryker, yes, but she wasn’t someone who would stay and be a tool.
No!
Ember Valen would never be that kind of woman.
The next day, just as she was in the dining room alone, having breakfast, Ryker strode in.
He looked as handsome as ever in a black suit—the same suit he wore yesterday—but his face was cold, so cold that even the room temperature seemed to drop.
He didn’t come back yesterday because he stayed with Linda at the hospital.
Only to get the information that Ember had researched about Linda.
Striding toward her, he caught her wrist so tightly that Ember turned pale in pain.
“Ryker Hale, what’s this about?!”
Ember snapped, feeling the pain and hurt from yesterday seeping in.
But her reaction made Ryker believe she had a hand in it.
“Ember, follow me to the hospital to apologize to Linda.”
“What?”
Ember was momentarily dazed.
Ryker faced her with a cold expression.
“You sent those thugs to molest Linda, and now she’s in the hospital. Isn’t the only thing you’re supposed to do to apologize?”
“I didn’t even know her!”
“But you researched about her,” Ryker snapped.
Ember felt a bang in her head.
Here she was, furious that her husband spent the night with another woman, and all he did the next morning was accuse her of hurting his sweetheart.
CHAPTER SEVENTEENEmber stared at Ryker as he stepped inside. He looked different. Not like the man who had hugged her so sweetly just moments ago. Not like the fragile, almost innocent version of him who had clung to her as if she were his only anchor.Right now, his gaze was fixed on Linda. And it was the same look. The same soft, protective glance she had seen him give Linda at the clubhouse while holding her trembling body. Her heart dropped.Linda must have noticed the change too because she took an uncertain step toward him.“Ryker…?” she called softly.Ryker replied by giving her a gentle glance—one filled with care, warmth, and familiarity.Seeing that, Linda immediately threw herself into his arms with a cry.“I thought you left me!” she sobbed. “You wouldn’t let me come anywhere near you. I thought you abandoned me. The only person you allowed near you was that disgusting woman named Ember.”At the mention of Ember’s name, he froze. As if someone had touched a hidden switch
Chapter SixteenNight had already fallen when Ember finally arrived at the private residence prepared for her.It was far from the palace, nestled quietly on the edge of the capital, surrounded by tall silverwood trees that whispered softly in the wind. The guards stationed outside bowed respectfully as she stepped out of the car, but none dared to follow her inside. This was her territory now.Inside, the house was warm and silent, filled with the faint scent of herbs and medicine that had already been prepared by the staff. Ember paused at the entrance for a brief moment, letting the stillness wash over her. This place felt nothing like home. But it felt safe. And for now, that was enough.Everything around the house, inside and out, looked ancient but of excellent quality. Anyone could tell that a huge amount of money had been spent on building such a place. The towers were made of fine gold, while the floors were jade.Looking at the piles of vases and materials made of gold, Ember
Chapter FifteenWith heavy hearts, the king ordered all investments with the Robin family to be withdrawn. Not partially. Not gradually. But completely. He also issued a public announcement, declaring that from this day forward, the Hale family would no longer have any form of partnership, cooperation, or private dealings with the Robin Company. As if that were not enough, he went even further. The king personally announced that any of the four top families who dared to collaborate with the Robins would be treated as enemies of the Hale family and would face his wrath without mercy. It was not merely a warning. It was a death sentence in the business world. It took him three long days to sign and revoke every single investment, partnership, and agreement tied to the Robin family.Three days of endless meetings.Three days of legal documents stacked like mountains on his desk.Three days of relentless pressure from elders, ministers, and shareholders who begged him to reconsider. But h
CHAPTER FOURTEENThe car moved smoothly through the quiet streets, city lights flashing past like distant stars that felt too far to reach.Inside the car, the silence was heavy.Issac glanced at Ember through the rearview mirror more than once before finally asking in a careful voice, “Madam… are you alright?”Ember leaned her head against the seat, eyes half-closed, her long lashes hiding the storm beneath.“I’m fine,” she replied softly. Her voice was calm.Too calm. But only she knew how violently her heart was still pounding from what had just happened at the Valen residence — no, the Robin residence. She refused to call it her home anymore. Her father’s greedy smile.Hailey’s fake concern.Sophie’s jealousy that couldn’t be hidden even when she tried.Faces that once ruled her nightmares.Faces that once decided her fate.Yet today… none of them could touch her anymore. What she felt now wasn’t pain.It was resolve.Issac tightened his hands on the steering wheel. “The legal tea
CHAPTER THIRTEENAfter Ember walked out of the Hale residence with Issac, she went straight to the car.She paused for a second, looking at the woman sitting in the back seat through the rearview mirror.Issac couldn’t help but smile. Right now, she looked nothing like an ordinary doctor. Instead, she looked like a woman who could move mountains with a sword in one hand and a medical needle in the other.A small smile tugged at his lips. Just looking at her made people feel strangely calm and hopeful for no reason at all.“Madam, where are we going?” Issac asked as he started the engine.“To the Valen family,” Ember replied calmly. It was time to pay her pathetic father a visit. At the Valen residence, Robin sat in the living room, holding a cup of coffee absentmindedly. As one of the four top families in the Blood Moon Pack, he had naturally heard about Ryker’s illness. Although the queen had tried desperately to hide the Alpha’s condition, the top families had known about it for a lo
CHAPTER TWELVEThe corridor fell into a heavy silence.Marliee stood at the front, the Hale elders flanking her like silent judges. Their gazes pressed down on Ember—sharp and cold—as though they had already decided her crime before she even spoke.Ember leaned casually against the doorframe, arms crossed, her eyes calm, almost amused.“Well?” she asked lightly. “Did the Blood Moon Pack suddenly start holding midnight trials?”One of the elders scoffed.“Watch your tone, Ember Valen.”Ember tilted her head. “Oh? Is this not my ex-husband’s room? Or do I now need permission just to exist in your presence?”Marliee’s lips tightened.“So arrogant,” she said coldly. “You’ve always been like this. Even back then. You haven’t changed.”Ember smiled faintly.“And you’ve always hated me. At least one of us is consistent.”Linda, standing slightly behind Marliee, lowered her head, tears slipping down her cheeks and dripping onto the floor.“Mother… please don’t be angry,” she whispered weakly.
