DRAKE POV

The truck’s engine cut out at the border marker, leaving every where so silent. The young warrior behind the wheel turned, with a mixture of duty and concern in his face. “The neutral grounds starts just beyond that ridge. Alpha, I can not go further.”

“This is far enough,” I said, my voice rough from disuse. I grabbed the simple bag at my feet, which contains a few change of clothes, basic supplies, nothing that spoke of rank or permanences “Return to the pack. Tell Beta Andre that I arrived safely at the crossing.”

“Yes, Alpha.” He nodded sharply.

I stepped out. The air was different here, it was thinner, colder and scented with frosted pine. It carried none of the heavy, layered history, of my own territory, no trace of council room polish, of Elara’s cloying perfume, of hospital antiseptic layered over a ghost of jasmine. I inhaled deeply, and for the first time in months, the oxygen did not fee like pieces of glass on my lungs.

I did not linger. I stripped immediately a

DRAKE POVThe dawn air at Snow Ridge was sharp and clean, which smelt like pine and cold stone. I stood outside the stronghold, my small pack slug over my shoulder. I was ready. The heavy wooden door creaked open, and Alpha Jon stepped out, joining me on the wide stone steps. He crossed his arms, and breathed out heavily. “So. The wandering Alpha returns to his throne,” he said with a faint smile on his weathered face. “Do you want the ceremonial send-off? I can have your travel travel team ready in an hour. Horse, carriage, the whole show. It is what is expected.”I looked past him, past the courtyard walls, to the endless, wild forest that stretched all the way back to Luxembourg. The treetops were painted gold by the rising sun. The call of the wild was a physical pull in my chest.“No,” I said, turning my gaze back to him. “No entourage. I will run back.”Jon’s smile widened into a grin. “Good. That is the Geo I hunted with talking. The forest will clear your head betrer than any

LUCAS POVI was in my office, buried in guard rotation scheduled with my head pounding relentlessly, when I head a loud knock at my door.“Come in,” I grumbled, without looking up.The door opened. I caught a familiar, sweet scent. Jasmine and sage. My head snapped up.Salome stood there, closing the door gently beside her. She wore a simple blue dress, with her hands clasped in front of her . She looked like peace in a world filled with noise.“Salome?” I shot up from my chair. “I was not expecting you.” A small smile touched her lips. “I know.”I crossed the room in two steps and pulled her into my arms, and then I kissed her, hard and deep. It was the first good thing I had felt all week. She kissed me back, with her hands cupping my face. Then she stepped back, to hold me at arms length. Her dark eyes scanned my face, and her smile faded instantly. “Lucas….it has been a week. You look terrible.”I rubbed my hairy jaw. “Thanks, my love. You know how to flatter a man.” “I am seri

LILLIAN POVWork was my only escape from the pain and hurt weighing me down. At the hospital, I was just Dr. Lillian. The beeping monitors and the patient chart dd not care about my heart ache or pack politics. For a few hours, my mind was quiet.I was finishing notes at the nurse’s station in my ward when I felt someone standing close to me, and I looked up. Dr. Wanni stood there, leaning against the counter. She smiled softly with a serious look in his eyes.“Lillian. Got a moment.”I put my pen down. “Ofcourse. Is something wrong?”“Not with a patient,” she said and came closer, then she whispered. “With you. And me. I think.”I stayed quiet. Waiting for her to continue.“I have noticed you have been….avoiding me,” Wanni said gently. I accusation, just fact. “Since the boutique. If I have done something to upset you, or if you and your friends need space from me. I will oblige. I just wanted to hear it from you.”Her directness was shocking, and I looked at her, elegant, sharp an

DRAKE POVA week at Snow Ridge had fixed me. I felt no regret. Each morning, I woke to the wind and pine, not messengers and problems. There was only quiet. Today, was Geo, hunting wild pigs with Alpha Jon and his men. We moved in silence through the rough woods. My senses were sharp and focused only on the hunt. When a pig charged, it was pure instincts. My sharp claws was quick and final. After, we carried the kill back, laughing. I was dirty and tired, but I felt alive. It was simple.Back in my room that evening, I stood before the mirror to shave. I paused. The man looking back was different. My eyes was clear, not full of shadows. The deep lines on my face was almost gone. My face looked healthier, fuller. I had been eating well and sleeping deeply. I felt lighter. A smile touched my lips. I had run away and found myself. The I thought of Lillian and my snails faded. How was she? How did she take my disappearance? A sharp guilt punched my chest, but I pushed it down. She had An

ANDRE POVIt had been a week since Drake left. Each day was hard. Running the pack without him felt like a dangerous job that could go wrong any minute. Every choice felt big. Every paper needed checking twice. And all the time, I felt Lillian’s sadness in my chest. Our new mate bond told me her spirit was low.I had sent her flowers. I sent her a pretty silver necklace. She texted “thank you,” but the words felt empty. I did not feel her angry at me. I felt her deep, quiet hurt. But the hurt was for another man. For Drake. That hurt me. To feel her pain for him. And it hurt worse knowing I could not fix it. I could not make Drake come back. I could not change what he did. I could only watch her be sad, and that was its own kind of pain. Some one knocked at the office door—Drake’s office, where I was working. Beta Ben came in. He looked serious.“Beta Andre. The full council is in the war room. They want answers.” I rubbed my head in fatigue. “Where is Lucas?”“Already there. He is t

LILLIAN POVThree days had passed since Drake left. Three days of heavy silence in the mansion, which was broken only by Lydia’s attempts to chatter noisily and Salome’s watchful concern. I moved through my shifts at the hospital like a machine, treating patients, writing charts, but my mind was elsewhere, somewhere between the garden’s humiliation and the unsettling news of his disappearance.Sunday morning found us at the breakfast table. Salome placed down her coffee cup with a loud clink.“We are going out of this house,” she announced. “We are going to visit Willow at her boutique. It is time we actually got to know that woman properly. She has been nothing but kind, and frankly, we could all use some fresh air and something pretty to look at that is not these four walls.”I stirred my tea without looking up. “I do not know, Salome. I am not really in the mood for shopping.”“That is exactly why we are going,” she replied firmly, but gentle. “You have been moping for days. it is
