Chapter Sixty-Four

I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and contented. Last night's dinner had gone better than I had predicted. Autumn's family was very welcoming and to be honest, even though Autumn kept apologizing for his dad and Steven's incessant line of questioning during and after dinner, I did not mind. I could more or less share their need of inquiry. They simply wanted to know more about me in order to make sure that Autumn would be safe and would not get hurt. I totally understood. 

It was five A.M. and I knew my mum had had a late shift last night so she must have been tired. I folded my blanket, tidied up my bed, and decided to prepare a simple meal for breakfast. Careful not to make any sound that might wake her up, I tiptoed my way to the kitchen. 

Thirty minutes later, my mom walked into the kitchen still in her robe, yawning while hugging herself from the cold weather. "Oh, you are awake."
