LOGINElliot's POV
Aiden walked up to my desk on Thursday afternoon holding a folder which usually meant he had work for me, but instead he just stood there looking at me weird. "I have a business dinner tonight with some investors," he said. "I need you to come with me." I looked up from my computer confused. "You want me to come to dinner?" "Yes," he said like it was obvious. "I need someone there who actually understands the numbers we have been working on. My usual people are useless at explaining things." "Okay," I said even though my stomach flipped at the idea of being alone with Aiden outside the office. "What time?" "Seven," he said. "Wear something nice. We are going to Aurelio's." Aurelio's was one of the fanciest restaurants in the city which meant I needed to go home and change because my work clothes were not nice enough. Aiden must have seen the panic on my face because he added "Nothing too formal, just a button down and nice pants." "Got it," I said. He nodded then walked back to his office leaving me sitting there wondering what I just agreed to. I left work early so I could go home and stress about what to wear for an hour. I finally picked a dark blue button down that I bought for job interviews. Black pants that were probably too tight but it was all I had. I looked at myself in the mirror about twenty times before finally leaving my apartment. The restaurant was in Manhattan, so I took the subway then walked three blocks trying not to sweat through my shirt. Aiden was already there waiting outside looking perfect in a gray suit that probably cost more than my entire wardrobe. "You look nice," he said when I walked up. I felt my face get hot."Thanks," I said. "So do you." We walked inside together where a hostess led us to a private room in the back. Three men in suits were already sitting at the table drinking wine. They all stood up when Aiden walked in so we did that whole handshake thing that business people do. "Gentlemen, this is Elliot Hayes," Aiden said while gesturing to me. "He is essential to my success at Blackwood Tech." His hand touched my back when he said it. Just a light touch but it felt like electricity going through my whole body. The investors noticed because I saw them look at where his hand was, then look at each other. We all sat down so I ended up next to Aiden at the table. The investors started talking about numbers and projections, while a waiter brought out fancy food I could not pronounce. I tried to focus on the conversation but I kept thinking about how close Aiden was sitting to me. "What do you think Elliot?" one of the investors asked suddenly. I looked up realizing everyone was staring at me. "About what?" I said. "About expanding into the European market," the investor said. "Aiden says you have been working on the projections." "Oh," I said, then cleared my throat. "Based on our current growth rate and the market research we did, I think we could see a thirty percent increase in revenue within the first year if we focus on Germany and France first." The investors looked impressed. Aiden smiled at me in a way that made my stomach flip again. "See," Aiden said to them. "This is why I keep him around." The rest of dinner went smooth. I answered questions about numbers while Aiden talked strategy. At some point his leg touched mine under the table. Neither of us moved away, when dinner ended we all stood outside the restaurant saying goodbye. One of the investors clapped Aiden on the shoulder, then said something about how lucky he was to have such a smart assistant. Aiden just smiled but did not say anything. A photographer walked by taking pictures of the restaurant. I did not think anything of it, because people took pictures in the city all the time. We got in Aiden's car so his driver could take me home. The ride was quiet but not uncomfortable. When we pulled up to my building Aiden said "You did well tonight. Thank you for coming." "No problem," I said. Then got out before I could do something stupid like tell him I would go anywhere with him. Friday morning started normal until Rachel from PR rushed past my desk looking stressed. Then two more people from PR walked by in a hurry. Something was wrong. Around ten my phone started buzzing with texts from people I worked with. I opened the first one to see a link to a business magazine article. The headline said "Blackwood Tech CEO and Mystery Companion Spark Romance Rumors." My heart stopped. I clicked the link so a photo loaded showing me standing next to Aiden outside the restaurant. His hand was on my back and we were both smiling. Another photo showed us sitting at dinner looking at each other. The article talked about how close we seemed and questioned our relationship. I felt sick, this was bad. This was really bad. My phone rang, i saw it was Aiden calling. I answered with shaky hands. "Come to my office," he said then hung up. I walked to his office feeling like I was going to throw up. When I got there he was standing by the window looking out at the city. He did not turn around when I walked in. "Close the door," he said. I closed it then just stood there waiting. He finally turned to look at me. His face was unreadable. "Have you seen the article?" he asked. "Yes," I said quiet. "PR is working on it," he said. "They will release a statement saying we are colleagues and nothing more." "Okay," I said because what else could I say. He walked closer until he was standing right in front of me. "Do you regret coming with me last night?" I looked at him surprised by the question. His eyes searched my face waiting for an answer. I could lie, I could say yes which would make everything easier but I was tired of lying. "No," I said honest. "I do not regret it." Something changed in his expression. His eyes got darker and he stepped even closer. "Good," he said quiet. "Neither do I.”Elliot's Pov We left the restaurant around ten and walked down the street with no real destination. The city was busy with people going out and cars honking and the usual noise but it felt quiet between us. Aiden walked close enough that our arms brushed sometimes and every time we touched I felt sparks. The wine had relaxed me and the conversation at dinner had opened something inside me that I had been trying to keep closed. "Thank you for dinner," I said. "Thank you for coming." "I almost said no." "I know. I am glad you did not." We walked for blocks and talked about nothing important. Movies we wanted to see and books we had read and places we wanted to travel. Easy conversation that felt natural and right. Then it started to rain and at first it was just a few drops but within seconds it was pouring. People around us ran for cover and Aiden grabbed my hand. "My apartment is two blocks away," he shouted over the rain. "Let us go." We ran through the streets
Aiden's Pov I could not stop thinking about what happened in the elevator. The way Elliot looked at me and the way he said he could not tell me to move back because he did not want me to. That had to mean something and that had to mean he still wanted this as much as I did. I spent all evening thinking about it and by the time I went to bed I had made a decision. I was going to take a risk and I was going to ask Elliot to dinner. The next morning I got to the office early and practiced what I would say. I must have written and deleted ten different versions of the same email before I finally just walked to his office. Elliot was at his desk reading through contracts. He looked up when I knocked and I could see surprise in his eyes. "Do you have a minute?" "Yeah. Come in." I walked in and closed the door behind me. My heart was beating so fast I thought he could probably hear it. "What is it?" Elliot asked. "I wanted to ask you something." "Okay." "Would you hav
Elliot's Pov I dreamed about Aiden that night and in the dream we were back in his office working late like we used to. But this time when I handed him papers our fingers touched and instead of pulling away he pulled me closer. He kissed me hard and pushed me against the desk and I wrapped my arms around his neck. His hands were everywhere and I could not breathe and I did not want to breathe because this felt too good to stop. "I never stopped wanting you," he said against my lips. "Then do not stop now." He kissed me deeper and I felt his hands slide under my shirt and his touch was fire on my skin. I wanted more and I wanted everything and I wanted him. I woke up hot and gasping and my heart was racing. The sheets were tangled around my legs and I was covered in sweat. I looked at the clock and it was only five in the morning. I lay there staring at the ceiling and trying to calm down. It was just a dream but it felt so real. I could still feel his hands on me and his lips o
Aiden's Pov The crisis got worse the next morning when I walked into the office and saw Elliot pacing in his office on the phone. His face was tight and his voice was sharp and I knew something bad had happened. I waited outside until he hung up and then knocked on his door. "What is wrong?" "Anderson Corp wants to pull their contract." "What? Why?" "They heard about the embezzlement investigation and they are worried about working with us." Anderson Corp was our biggest client and they brought in almost twenty percent of our annual revenue. Losing them would be a disaster. "When did they call?" "Ten minutes ago. They want a meeting this afternoon to discuss terminating the contract." "Can we stop them?" "I do not know. But we have to try." Elliot ran his hand through his hair and I could see panic in his eyes. This was his first real crisis as CEO and if he lost Anderson Corp the board would blame him. "We can fix this," I said. "How?" "We make a plan. We show them that
Elliot's Pov I was packing up my things to go home when I saw the box sitting on the shelf in my office. It was the same box I brought with me when James took me back to the family house and the same box I brought when I came back to the city. I had not opened it since I became CEO because I did not want to think about that time. But now I was curious so I pulled it down and set it on my desk. Inside were the things from my old desk. The coffee mug Maya gave me and some pens and notebooks and the glass paperweight Aiden gave me after I finished a big project. I picked up the paperweight and held it up to the light. It made rainbows on the wall just like it did in my childhood bedroom and just like it did in my old apartment. Under the paperweight was a piece of paper folded in half. I did not remember putting it in the box but I picked it up and unfolded it. It was a note in Aiden's handwriting. "Good job on the quarterly report. Your analysis was excellent. Keep up the good wor
Aiden's Pov I did not sleep at all that night. I lay in bed staring at the ceiling and thinking about Elliot. The way he looked when he said working with me was killing him and the way his voice cracked when he said he was trying to forgive me. I kept replaying our conversation over and over in my head. Every word and every look and every moment when we stood too close and wanted things we could not have. At five in the morning I gave up on sleep and got out of bed. I showered and got dressed and left my apartment while it was still dark outside. The city was quiet and empty and I walked to the nearest coffee shop that was open. I ordered my usual black coffee and then I thought about Elliot. He always got a vanilla latte with extra foam. I remembered because I used to watch him drink it every morning when he was my assistant. Before I could stop myself I ordered a vanilla latte with extra foam. The barista gave me a weird look because I was holding two cups but she did no
Elliot's PovI sat on my bed staring at the wall and counting the flowers on the wallpaper. There were forty three of them and I had counted them five times already because I had nothing else to do. My room felt smaller than I remembered and the air was too thick and I could not breathe right. It h
Elliot's POV I caught up to Aiden in his office where he was throwing things into a cardboard box. Files and photos and awards he had earned over the years all getting tossed in without any care. His hands were shaking but his face was stone. "Aiden," I said from the doorway. He didn't look up.
Vivian's POV I walked into Richard Blackwood's office at exactly eleven thirty carrying my leather folder with all the information I needed to destroy his son. His secretary tried to stop me but Richard waved her away and told her to close the door behind her. "You're early," Richard said from be
Elliot's POV The office felt different when we walked in. Everyone was whispering and looking at us then looking away fast when we noticed. News about the board vote must have spread already because people kept their heads down when Aiden walked past. I went straight to my desk while Aiden headed
