Ximena's POV

My mind was consumed by thoughts. If only I could escape this life. Why does all the misfortune always come my way? Since my mother's passing, my life has been a never-ending turmoil, as if that wasn't enough, everyone else adds to my burdens. Now, I have to strip a man of his possession just to protect my family. I had no choice after the event that took place between Mrs Miles and I yesterday.

I was in my room, scrolling through my phone, killing time, when I saw Aunt Sadie's name flashing on the screen. She was calling me. When did she start showing any concern for me?

I answered the call.

"Ximena!" Aunt Sadie exclaimed. My heart skipped a beat and I sat up abruptly from my bed.

"What's wrong, Aunt? Are you alright?" I asked, my voice trembling.

"Is Mila with you?" she inquired, her tone laced with anxiety.

"Mila? That's a joke, Aunt. How could Mila be with me? She has plenty of friends to turn to, not me," I replied nonchalantly, relaxing my mind and sinking back
