The drive back to the mansion was filled with silence.

Not the comfortable kind.

The heavy kind.

Amara sat beside Alexander, her mind racing with everything Adrian had revealed.

The evidence was hidden in the mansion.

Inside Alexander’s own house.

“Your father hid evidence in your home,” she said finally.

Alexander nodded slightly without taking his eyes off the road.

“That’s what Adrian claims.”

“And you believe him?”

Alexander didn’t answer immediately.

“I believe he’s telling the truth about one thing.”

“What’s that?”

“Victor is afraid.”

Amara leaned back in her seat.

“Well… if there’s really evidence hidden in the house, that would explain why.”

Alexander turned into the driveway.

The massive gates opened slowly as the car approached.

The mansion looked quiet.

Peaceful.

Almost too peaceful.

“Funny,” Amara murmured.

“What?”

“That something so dangerous could be hidden somewhere so normal.”

Alexander parked the car.

“Danger often hides in ordinary places.”

They stepped inside the mansion.

The house was dark except for the soft lights in the hallway.

Amara looked around.

“So… where do we start?”

Alexander took off his jacket and placed it on a chair.

“If my father hid something important, he wouldn’t make it obvious.”

“That’s helpful,” Amara said dryly.

Alexander smirked faintly.

“He liked puzzles.”

Amara crossed her arms.

“Of course he did.”

Alexander walked toward his father’s old study.

The room hadn’t been touched in years.

Dust covered the shelves.

Old books lined the walls.

Amara stepped inside slowly.

“This place feels… important.”

Alexander nodded.

“My father spent most of his time here.”

Amara looked around carefully.

“Then this is probably where he hid it.”

Alexander walked toward the large desk in the center of the room.

He opened the drawers one by one.

Nothing.

Just old documents and notebooks.

Amara moved toward the bookshelf.

“There has to be a clue.”

Alexander sighed.

“If there is, it’s well hidden.”

Amara scanned the room again.

Her eyes stopped on a framed photograph sitting on the shelf.

She picked it up.

It showed Alexander and his father from years ago.

They were both smiling.

“You look younger here,” she said softly.

Alexander walked closer and looked at the picture.

“I was.”

Amara studied the frame.

Then something caught her attention.

“Wait.”

“What?”

She turned the photo over.

The back of the frame looked slightly loose.

“Alexander…”

“Yes?”

“I think this opens.”

Alexander stepped closer.

Carefully, he removed the backing of the frame.

Inside…

A small folded paper fell onto the desk.

Amara’s eyes widened.

“You’re kidding.”

Alexander unfolded the note slowly.

Written in neat handwriting were just a few words.

“Look where the truth is always reflected.”

Amara frowned.

“That’s cryptic.”

Alexander stared at the message.

“My father loved riddles.”

Amara looked around the room.

“Where is truth reflected?”

Alexander’s eyes suddenly moved toward the wall.

The large mirror hanging above the fireplace.

They both walked toward it.

Amara examined the frame.

“It looks normal.”

Alexander touched the edges carefully.

Then suddenly—

Click.

A small hidden compartment opened behind the mirror.

Amara gasped.

“You found it.”

Inside the compartment was a black folder.

Alexander took it slowly.

His heart was pounding now.

“This must be it.”

Amara leaned closer.

“Open it.”

Alexander did.

Inside were documents.

Photos.

Financial records.

And several USB drives.

Amara’s eyes widened.

“This is huge.”

Alexander flipped through the papers.

“These records connect Victor to multiple illegal accounts.”

Amara’s excitement grew.

“This could destroy him.”

Alexander nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

Then suddenly—

A loud noise echoed from downstairs.

Both of them froze.

“What was that?” Amara whispered.

Alexander’s expression darkened instantly.

“Stay here.”

“No way.”

Amara followed him as he rushed out of the study.

They reached the bottom of the staircase.

The front door was slightly open.

The cold night air drifted inside.

Someone had been there.

Amara’s pulse raced.

“Did someone break in?”

Alexander walked toward the door carefully.

Then he noticed something on the floor.

A small black box.

Amara stepped closer.

“What is that?”

Alexander picked it up slowly.

Inside was a single note.

He read it silently.

His jaw tightened.

“What does it say?” Amara asked.

Alexander handed her the note.

Her eyes widened as she read it.

“Too late.”

Her heart sank.

“He knows.”

Alexander nodded.

“Yes.”

“Victor knows we found the evidence.”

The tension in the room thickened.

Amara slowly looked up at Alexander.

“So what do we do now?”

Alexander stepped closer to her.

Very close.

“So we do exactly what my father wanted.”

“And that is?”

Alexander’s voice dropped.

“We expose him.”

Amara looked up into his eyes.

“You’re really going to do it.”

“Yes.”

The moment between them stretched again.

The danger.

The secrets.

The adrenaline.

It all made the space between them feel electric.

Amara’s voice softened.

“You know… we almost kissed earlier.”

Alexander’s lips curved slightly.

“I remember.”

“Well… Victor ruined the moment.”

Alexander stepped even closer.

“Victor isn’t here right now.”

Amara felt her heart race.

“No… he isn’t.”

For a second, neither of them moved.

Then finally—

Alexander closed the distance.

Their lips met.

Soft at first.

Then deeper.

All the tension they had been holding back suddenly released.

For a brief moment, the world outside the mansion disappeared.

Until Alexander slowly pulled away.

Amara blinked slightly.

“Well…”

Alexander smiled faintly.

“That was overdue.”

Amara laughed softly.

“You think?”

Alexander’s expression turned serious again.

“We should get back to work.”

Amara nodded.

“Right.”

But the smile on her face remained.

Because despite the danger surrounding them—

Something between them had finally changed.

The sound of police sirens grew louder outside the warehouse. At first, it was faint—like a distant warning carried by the wind from the harbor. But within seconds, the sound became unmistakable.Victor’s calm expression vanished.“You idiot,” he snapped sharply, his glare cutting toward Adrian. “You brought the police?”Adrian looked completely unfazed. He leaned casually against a wooden crate as if they were having a normal conversation.“Relax,” Adrian said lightly. “I thought you liked attention.”Victor’s jaw tightened. His patience had officially run out.“Move,” he barked at the men beside him.Everything erupted at once. One of Victor’s men rushed toward the black folder lying on the ground.Another grabbed Lucas’s chair and dragged it backward across the concrete floor. The chair screeched loudly as Lucas struggled against the ropes tied around his wrists.“Alex!” Lucas shouted desperately.Alexander reacted instantly. He lunged forward, tackling the man reaching for the fol
