River's POV

“My child is not a bastard!” I chanted the words of a mantra as I sat in the car. She has a father, even though he's a deadbeat, but that doesn't mean that she's a bastard. I couldn't believe that I let Nova's words get to me. I shouldn't let it get to me.

I leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on my daughter's forehead. She was still fast asleep. “I love you, baby.” I whispered quietly. “And I'll make sure I give you the best life that you can ever want. You won't ever feel your father's absence.”

After all, Killian is there for her. He loves her like she was his own. And that's all that matters. “We're here, ma'am.” The driver announced, and I stared out of the window to see that we were actually in front of my old house.
