"You must have a wife Sir."

Chapter 2

Sofie groaned as her eyes slowly opened, at first she was confused about everything but when she recalled all that's happened, she hurriedly sat up, startling the Doctor who was working.

"Sofie, you're awake." The Doctor said as he stood up and went to her side.

When she passed out, he couldn't let them put her in a private ward since he needs to keep an eye on her and that's the reason he asked that she be kept in his office where he can easily keep an eye on her because he knows that once she's awake, she's going to be in so much pain again and he wants to do his best to comfort her.

"M...my mom, my mom." She stammered as hot tears streamed down her cheeks.

"Sofie, listen to me, I can understand how much pain you're in right now, but please—"

"No." Sofie interrupted. "You can't understand how much pain I'm in Doctor, you don't know the amount of pain I'm feeling right now. My mom was the only person I had left in this world and now she's gone, my mom is gone and now I'm all alone. My life has only turned for the worse now." She sobbed even harder.

"Sofie please—"

"Please Doctor, please don't try to comfort me right now because no amount of comfort can soothe the pain I'm in right now. It hurts so much that I don't want to keep leaving, I just want to die so all this suffering can end, I just want to die and end it all!'' She half yelled.

"Where's my mother Doctor? Please tell me where she is, I want to see her, please take me to my mother."

The Doctor felt so sorry for her, it broke his heart to see such a young lady in so much pain and he also couldn't help but cry for her. He instantly pulled her into a hug, patting her hair in a comforting manner.

"It's all going to be okay Sofie, it's all going to be okay." He cooed.

Sofie sobbed so hard on his shoulder, soaking his coat with her tears, but the Doctor doesn't seem to mind at all.

He's not always this way with people, but Sofie was different, the girl has suffered a lot and he feels bad that he couldn't help her mother get the operation she needed.

"Please take me to my mother now Doctor. I want to see my mother." She cried out.

The Doctor finally let her go and then he nodded.

"Come with me." He said to her.

Sofie slowly got down from the bed and they both left his office. The Doctor took her to the room where her mother's body was kept.

The moment they opened the door and she saw her mother's body covered with a plain white cloth, her legs weakened.

"M...Mother." She stuttered.

When she took a step, her legs gave out, but the Doctor caught her quickly.

"Sofia." He called worriedly.

He helped her stand properly and she walked to where her mother's body was laid, she slowly pulled the cloth from her face.

Her mother's lifeless body broke her completely, she hugged her mother and wailed in pain.

"Mother..." She screamed.

Next day...

Sofie's mother's funeral was just held today. She sat in their little apartment with a few neighbors around to comfort and offer their condolences.

No matter how much they tried to comfort her, Sofie couldn't be comforted, she was now a shadow of her old self, huge dark circles were beneath her eyes, her face pale and her eyes red and puffy from all the crying. Each time she looks around she was reminded of the fun memories she had with her mother and her loud laugh echoed in her ears.

Yes they were struggling to make a living, but she was still happy because she had her mother by her side, a woman she considered a strong pillar. Life was going well despite the fact that they didn't have it all and then everything began crumbling when her mother fell ill and now she's gone, gone forever.

A loud knock sounded on the door, bringing her back to reality. She wanted to go answer the door, but a neighbor asked her not to bother and went to see who it was herself.

Her eyes were fixed on the lady and when the lady turned to look at her, the look on her face told her something wasn't right. She slowly stood up and went to the door, four men dressed in black tux stood outside her door.

"Sofie Adel?" One of the men asked and she nodded, her heart pounding in her chest.

He handed her a letter and when she opened it her heart sank, it was a letter of eviction.

"You're to evict the house immediately, your dad placed this house as collateral when he was taking the loan from the bank. You'll have to leave this house today." He said sternly.

"P...please, please give me more time, I promise to pay up, please. I just lost my mother and—"

"We've given you enough time already, we've been kind to wait up till a year. I'm sorry but we can't give you any more time, you'll have to evict this house today or we'll be forced to throw you out, make sure we do not meet you here when we return tomorrow and if you can't pay up your debt within the next five days, you'll be thrown in jail and you'll be there for a very long time." The man replied and they left.

Sofie went after them, pleading and begging for more time, but it all fell on deaf ears, they got into their van and drove off.

Sofie dropped to her knees in tears, once again, life has turned its back on her. First, she lost her dad, then her mom, and now it's her home, the only inheritance they owned. She has no close relations, it's just her, only her in this world, she's all alone.

Her neighbors sympathized with her, but then, they were just as poor as she is and none of them could help her.

After she's managed to gather herself, she went inside and packed up the few clothes she had and other things she considered valuable. It wasn't easy leaving the house she grew up in and the same house which holds so many memories, both happy and sad, but she had to leave.

The only person she could think of that could help her at this moment was the only one friend she had. She took one last look at her home before leaving.

A.D communication

Mr Asher Dacy sat in his office going through some files, his expression calm and serious. A knock came on his door and he ushered the person in, not taking his eyes off what he was doing.

His manager walked in, said his greetings and gave him some documents.

"How's the development of the new app going?" He asked, going through the document in his hand.

"It's going well Sir, once it's ready, we can discuss the launching of the new app.'' His manager replied and he nodded.

"Good. What about the contract with the tech company, are we able to secure it?" He asked, closing the document and staring at his manager.

The manager braced up himself now that his eyes were fixed on him.

"We weren't able to Sir." He replied softly, knowing this was definitely going to make Asher throw a fit.

Asher angrily slammed the document on his table. "And why is that!?'' He yelled.

"Mr Jasper is also going for the contract Sir." The manager replied.

"What?" Asher questioned with a huge frown on his face. Jasper was his rival.

"Yes, Sir, and the tech company's Ceo has said he was going to sign the contract with the one who's more mature."

Asher scoffed. "What do you mean more matured? Do I look like a child to you!?" He seethed.

His manager flinched, he was literally trembling at the moment. "N...no Sir, that's not what I mean." He defended.

"Then tell me what you mean."

"For you to be able to secure the contract, you must...." He trailed, he was afraid of what was going to happen to him if he dares complete his sentence. Mr Asher might have his head and it's not as if he was the one who brought the rule.

The contract with the tech company is so important to Asher because it'll help strengthen his company even more and bring in lots of cash to the company, this is the reason he needs to get the owner who was an old man to agree to this deal.

"Finish the damn statement!" He banged his fist on his table, startling his manager.

"You must have a wife Sir."

"What!?" Asher narrowed his eyes.

"Mr Jasper already has a fiancee, so he stands a chance in getting the contract."

"This is crazy." Asher groaned.

He thought about this for some time, if it hadn't been for the fact that he really needs this contract he would have said to hell with them and their damn contract! But this contract means a lot to him and he's not about to let his rival steal what's meant to be his.

"What do you suggest Dave?" He asked.

"There's only one solution Sir and that's for you to get married." Dave replied. Asher sighed.

"How long will the app take to develop?" Asher asked.

"Six to eight months." Dave replied.

"Alright then, you're dismissed." He said. Dave bowed before leaving.

Asher relaxed into his seat and he sighed heavily, he doesn't want to get married now, that's the last thing on his mind. But to get this contract, he's willing to do anything, but there's one question on his mind now.

"Where do I get a bride?"

Two days later....

Sofie has been at her friend's home for two days now and she's more than glad that Tessy was kind enough to take her in.

They were having a discussion when Tessy brought up the topic of Sofie coming to work at their company.

"I don't think I can do it, Tessy, I don't have all the qualifications." Sofie replied sadly.

"You don't have to worry about that, I'll take you to see the boss myself and I can put in some words for you, you need this job, Sofie." Tessy said softly. "You know there's no way you can pay up the debt in such a small amount of time and there's still your mom's medical expenses."

After hearing this, Sofie has no other option than to agree because after all Tessy was right about this, if she wants to pay her debts, then she'll have to get a well-paying job.

"You're right Tessy, I'll come with you tomorrow, I just hope things turn out well." She said. Tessy smiled, then she placed her hand on her shoulder.

"Let's be hopeful and you need not worry, our boss can be grumpy at times, but I'll help you talk to him and put in a lot of good words for you."

"Thank you so much, Tessy, what would I have done without you.''

"Don't start now Sofie, you're more than a friend to me, you're more like my sister now and I'm glad I could be of help to you in my own little way." Tessy replied, then she hugged her briefly.

"Let's go to bed now, we've got a long day ahead of us tomorrow."

They both said goodnight to each other before retiring to bed, but before Sofie slept, she silently prayed that things worked out in her favor, even if it was just this once in her life. Let the universe not be against her.

After much thought, she finally forced herself to sleep.

Next day....

A.D communications...

Sofie and Tessy have been sitting at the reception for what feels like ages to them. Tessy was about going to question Brielle, Mr Asher's rude secretary on why the long wait, but Brielle finally called to them and permitted them to go in.

When they got in, Asher was on a phone call and he had his back turned to them.

Sofie couldn't stop toying with her fingers, she was just so nervous and when Tessy noticed this, she placed a hand on her shoulder to get her attention.

"It'll be fine." She mouthed.

Sofie forced a smile and nodded in reply.

Finally, Asher was done with his call and he sharply turned to face them.

When he and Sofie's eyes met, her jaw dropped and her eyes widen in shock.

"You!?'' She said in shock.

She recognized him to be the rude man she had slapped the other day, but how was that possible!? How come he's the Ceo of A.D communication?

This has got to be a big dream.

A sly smirk appeared on Asher's lips and Sofie knew she was doomed.

"Oh shit!"
