Elena’s heart refused to calm even after Roberto stepped away from the ballroom lights.

The silence between them felt dangerous.

Everything about him felt dangerous.

She knew exactly who Roberto Francesco was. Everyone did.

The eldest Francesco son.

Twenty-one years old.

Cold. Untouchable. Brilliant.

Rumors followed him everywhere—whispers of violence, power, and a darkness even older mafia men respected. Unlike Dante’s easy smiles, Roberto rarely laughed. Rarely spoke.

And yet somehow, every girl in the city wanted his attention.

Including her.

Which was ridiculous.

Because Roberto Francesco was far too old for her.

Far too dangerous for her.

And still… Elena couldn’t stop staring at him.

The city lights cast shadows across his sharp features as he looked down at her, calm and unreadable.

“You’re staring,” he said quietly.

Elena immediately looked away. “You dragged me out here.”

“And you came willingly.”

Her cheeks burned.

God, she hated how easily he unsettled her.

Roberto stepped closer slowly, his gaze lowering briefly to her lips.

Elena’s breath caught.

Was he going to ?

Oh.

Oh no.

He was going to kiss her.

The realization sent panic rushing through her all at once.

“I’m sixteen,” she blurted out without knowing why.

The words hit the air like shattered glass.

Roberto froze.

For the first time that night, genuine surprise crossed his face.

Then immediately—

He stepped back.

The sudden distance between them felt humiliating.

Elena’s stomach twisted.

Right. Of course.

She suddenly became painfully aware of herself. Too young. She probably looked like a child compared to the women he has met. Too inexperienced. A stupid girl standing on a balcony hoping an older man would kiss her.

How embarrassing and pathetic.

But when Roberto turned slightly as if preparing to leave, panic pushed her forward before pride could stop her.

“Roberto—”

The word left her mouth before she could think

She grabbed the sleeve of his jacket lightly, moving closer again.

Maybe if she just—

Maybe if he looked at her one more time—

Roberto looked down at her hand gripping him.

Then slowly back at her face.

His expression hardened instantly.

“Stop touching me.”

His words felt colder than ice.

Elena released him immediately, mortified.

“I wasn’t—”

“You were.” He looked disgusted.

God.

She wanted the floor to open and swallow her whole.

Roberto took another step back, creating distance between them again.

“It’s late,” he said flatly. “Go back inside.”

The embarrassment quickly turned into anger.

“Oh my God,” Elena snapped before she could stop herself. “How can you be this cruel on my birthday?”

Roberto paused.

For a moment, he simply stared at her.

Then something unreadable flickered across his face.

“…It’s your birthday?”

Elena crossed her arms bitterly. “Unfortunately.”

A long silence followed.

Then quietly—almost gently—Roberto said,

“Happy birthday, Elena.”

And before she could answer—

He walked away.

Leaving her alone on the balcony with a racing heart and the horrible realization that she would never forget him now.

Night draped itself over the Francesco estate like black silk.Cold wind swept through the towering trees surrounding the mansion while clouds swallowed the moon whole, leaving only scattered lanterns glowing faintly across the massive grounds.Eduardo stood outside his cabin staring silently at Elena’s jewelry spread across the wooden table.Diamonds glittered beneath candlelight.Gold bracelets.Pearl earrings.A life far too expensive for a man like him.His rough fingers closed around one of the necklaces slowly before setting it back down again. His chest felt tight tonight.Wrong.Like his body itself understood he might not survive what he was about to do.Roberto Francesco was not a man people crossed and lived to speak about afterward.Eduardo knew that.Every villager knew that. The man was practically a whispered nightmare across Italy. And still—Eduardo reached for his coat.Because Elena was there.Because every night without her felt unbearable.Because somehow in the s

  • THE CURSED NECKLACE   CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE

Days passed without Roberto. At first Elena told herself she didn’t care. The Francesco estate felt easier to breathe in without him stalking its hallways with those cold black eyes and terrifying presence. No sudden commands. No possessive touches. No dangerous tension curling through every room whenever he entered. And yet… By the fourth day, Elena found herself listening for his footsteps anyway. By the sixth day, she started waking in the middle of the night expecting to find him sitting silently near the fireplace watching her. By the eighth— The silence began to feel wrong. The estate itself seemed different without Roberto inside it. Like the mansion had lost the monster living at its center. Every morning servants entered carrying gifts. Designer dresses folded carefully into silk boxes. Diamond necklaces. Perfumes imported from Paris. Shoes Elena was too afraid to even touch. “Lord Dante sent these for you.” The maids would smile excitedly while laying ever

Elena woke to warmth. For one disoriented moment, she thought she was still dreaming.Soft sheets tangled around her legs while dim morning light spilled through towering black curtains, bathing the massive bedroom in shades of gold and gray.Something strong tightened around her waist.Elena stiffened instantly.A bare muscular arm rested across her stomach. Her breath caught.Slowly She turned her head.Roberto.Sleeping beside her.His dark hair fell slightly across his forehead while his face remained relaxed in unconsciousness, sharp features softened by the pale morning light.Without the constant coldness on his face, he looked unfairly beautiful.High cheekbones.Strong jaw.Long dark lashes resting against tan skin. The black sheets sat low on his waist, exposing hard sculpted muscle and the faint scars scattered across his chest and abdomen.Elena immediately looked away.Heat crept embarrassingly into her face. Why was she here? The last thing she remembered was falling asl

The silver glow beneath Elena’s skin intensified violently while unbearable heat rolled from her body in waves. One of the doctors backed away immediately. “She’s burning alive…” Another crossed himself repeatedly under his breath. The older physician stood frozen near the doorway, horror carved deeply into his face. Roberto ignored all of them. His entire focus remained on the girl in his arms. Elena writhed weakly against his chest, soft broken sounds escaping her lips while strands of dark hair clung damply against her glowing skin. The necklace around her throat pulsed brighter. Once. Twice. Then the room temperature dropped suddenly. Ice-cold air swept violently across the bedroom. Candles flickered. The curtains snapped upward despite the windows being shut. A guard near the door stumbled backward in fear. “What the hell is happening?” Roberto roared. No one answered. Roberto’s grip tightened instinctively around Elena as another violent tremor

The heat spread violently through Elena’s body.Roberto stopped moving instantly.Something was wrong.Very wrong. The silver necklace around Elena’s throat glowed brighter beneath the darkness, harsh light spilling across her pale skin while unbearable heat radiated from her body in waves.Like fire trapped beneath flesh.Roberto’s jaw tightened immediately.“Elena.”No response. Her face twisted faintly in pain even in unconsciousness. The temperature around them seemed to rise unnaturally. The chandelier lights above flickered once. Then again.Roberto’s instincts sharpened instantly.“Elena.”He carried her quickly upstairs toward his bedroom, long strides echoing heavily through the silent estate.By the time he reached the room, heat practically burned against his skin through her clothes.Impossible.Roberto kicked the bedroom door open before crossing toward the bed.The second he tried laying Elena down—She screamed. The sound tore violently from her throat despite her eyes

The room fell into complete silence after Dante’s words. You knew I gave it to her.Elena’s heartbeat pounded loudly inside her ears as she slowly turned toward Roberto. He knew. All this timeHe knew she never stole the necklace. Then why?Why chase her?Why destroy her life? Why kill her family? The questions crashed violently through Elena’s mind one after another until she felt physically dizzy.Dante looked equally disturbed.“Roberto,” he said slowly, “what the hell is going on?”Roberto’s face revealed nothing.Cold.Controlled.Like the revelation changed absolutely nothing for him.“Leave.”The single word landed heavily in the room.Dante frowned immediately.“What?”“You heard me.”Roberto’s dark gaze remained fixed on him now.“You’re no longer welcome in this estate.”The atmosphere turned dangerous instantly.Dante laughed once softly in disbelief.“You’re throwing me out?”“Yes.”Roberto’s tone remained calm.Which somehow felt worse.Dante looked ready to argue—Then h
