POV ARIA The air in the chamber grew thin, heavy, and cold. Every breath I pulled into my lungs felt empty, lacking oxygen, making my head throb with a dull, sickening ache.Elias was gasping on the concrete floor, his hands twitching against his tactical vest as his oxygen saturation plummeted. The high-frequency acoustic pulse had stopped, but the atmospheric scrubbers were rapidly sucking the life out of the room."Thirty percent oxygen remaining," my father’s voice chimed through the overhead speakers, calm and detached, like a professor giving a lecture. "In sixty seconds, permanent brain damage begins. In ninety seconds, cardiac arrest."I dragged myself across the floor, my fingers digging into the icy concrete, until I reached Elias. I pulled his face toward mine. His lips were turning a faint, alarming shade of blue, but his slate-gray eyes were locked on me with fierce, stubborn focus."Don't... do it," Elias rasped, his hand weakly gripping my jacket sleeve. "Don't give hi

POV ARIA I couldn't move. I couldn't breathe. The floor beneath my combat boots felt as if it had dissolved into thin air, dropping me into the same black abyss I thought I’d escaped in Antarctica."Aria..." Elias’s voice sounded like it was coming from under miles of water. He raised his rifle, his body tensing into a defensive posture, but his eyes were wide with total disbelief. "Aria, fall back. Step away from the glass.""He's dead," I whispered, my voice cracking, barely audible over the hum of the server racks lining the circular room. "I saw the medical reports. I saw his grave in Geneva. Liora... Liora killed him in the chapel."The frail old man in the wheelchair let out a soft, wet cough, pressing a blood-stained handkerchief to his lips before lowering it back to his lap."Liora killed a body double, Aria," my father said, his voice echoing through the intercom with a raspy, metallic ring. "A terminally ill proxy with matching dental records and localized genetic markers.

POV ARIA The air inside the thirty-foot submersible smelled of damp steel, stale coffee, and the metallic tang of recirculated oxygen. Outside the thick acrylic viewport, the black, peat-stained waters of Loch Leven gave way to the freezing shelf of the North Atlantic. My fingers hovered over the console, tracing the glowing green coordinates on the sonar map.78° North, 15° East."You're thinking about turning back," Elias said. His voice was a low rasp from the shadows near the aft ballast controls.I didn't turn around. I kept my eyes fixed on the navigational screen, watching the depth gauge tick down toward eighty fathoms. "Vance-Ross thinks we're heading for the safehouse in Oban. If I patch through to his secure frequency, he'll bring in a full NATO maritime task force. He'll turn Svalbard into a warzone.""And the Fourth Sovereign will slip through the net just like Sterling did thirty years ago," Elias said, stepping up beside my pilot's chair. He set a thermal mug of black

  • THE DEAN'S ASSASSIN    The Depth of Truth

POV ARIA The water hit me like a physical blow, so cold it instantly sucked the air straight out of my lungs.Darkness wrapped around me as I sank into the freezing depths of Loch Leven. Above the surface, the distorted sound of gunfire rattled through the water muffled, distant explosions of sound as Vance-Ross’s snipers opened fire on the pier.I kicked hard, my tactical boots heavy and waterlogged, forcing my way back toward the surface through the ink-black turbulence. A hand grabbed my collar, Elias. His grip was weak, his blood trailing into the dark water around us like a crimson ribbon, but he hauled me toward the shadow of the wooden pilings beneath the pier.We broke the surface silently, gasping for air underneath the crossbeams of the structure.Above our heads, heavy footfalls echoed as Vance-Ross’s mercenaries rushed to the edge of the pier, flashing high-lumen tactical spotlights across the open water."Find them!" Vance-Ross’s voice echoed from above, distorted by rag

  • THE DEAN'S ASSASSIN    The Sovereign's Hand

POV ARIA The rain hammered against the wooden planks of the pier, creating a rhythmic, hollow drumming sound beneath our boots. Director Vance-Ross stood perfectly still beneath the yellow glow of a single hanging lamp. His usually immaculate grey hair was damp, plastered against his forehead, but his face was completely devoid of emotion. His suppressed pistol was leveled directly at my chest. Behind us, the Highland ridge glowed with an eerie, orange fire as Eleanor’s underground vault consumed itself in a high-temperature thermite reaction. Elias instantly stepped in front of me, raising his rifle with his good left hand, his finger resting lightly on the trigger guard. "Vance-Ross. Lower the weapon." Vance-Ross didn't move an inch. "I can't do that, Captain Vance. You've played your part brilliantly, both of you. Truly. Sterling couldn't have planned it better." A cold, sickening weight settled deep in my gut. The pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place with brutal, me

  • THE DEAN'S ASSASSIN    The Sovereign's Blood

POV ARIA The floor above us shook as heavy mortar shells impacted the stone ruins of the estate. Dust rained down from the ceiling joists, coating the antique paper books and mechanical equipment in a layer of fine grey powder."How many?" Elias demanded, stepping up to the tactical monitor built into the far wall. The screen showed multiple infrared heat signatures moving down the misty slope of Glen Coe: at least fifteen heavily armed operatives in high-threat tactical gear."A full assault unit," Eleanor replied smoothly, as if reporting a change in the weather. She walked over to a steel cabinet, unlocked it with a key hanging around her neck, and pulled out two modified assault rifles, tossing one to Elias. He caught it deftly with his left hand, his eyes widening slightly as he checked the custom action."Special Forces issue," Elias noted. "Modified receivers. Where did you get these?""I built them," Eleanor said simply, slinging the second rifle over her shoulder. "When you
