UNFAITHFUL

My heart sank right into my stomach when I heard that Ryan went on a date with Sylvia, his boss's daughter, the same girl he told me not to worry about.

Ryan's secretary, Edna, who was also my childhood friend, gave me the information.

Apparently, she was the one who made the reservations and felt it wasn’t fair to keep it from me.

“Please don’t let him know I told you,” she said. “But I think it’s only fair that you know.”

I was skeptical, yet curious. Edna had hinted about Ryan and Sylvia before, but I never took her serious. I trusted Ryan. Or maybe I wanted to.

This time, something pushed me to verify her information, just once. I took an excuse from the hotel management where I worked and drove my old 80’s model Honda Civic to the location she mentioned.

Deep down, I prayed it wasn’t true. I had already pictured the perfect vacation Ryan and I were going to have. We had been saving up for it, mostly me. If he was truly out with Sylvia, then our relationship was about to take a bad turn, or worse, end completely.

I parked in front of the restaurant, took a deep breath, and whispered a short prayer before walking inside.

As much as I wanted to deny what I saw, it was clear, clear like it was showing in 4K.

Ryan and Sylvia sat across from each other at a table, but close enough to feel intimate. They were smooching, feeding each other, laughing like nothing else in the world mattered. Ryan had ordered the most expensive dish on the menu for her. Just by looking at it, I could tell it was intercontinental and far beyond what he ever spent on me.

I watched them for a few minutes while standing in a corner. My thoughts turned to all the times I pleaded with Ryan to take me out, even if it was just to a nearby restaurant. He consistently declined, claiming to be busy with his job.

It wasn't until a waitress came up to me and gave me a tissue that I realised I was crying.

"We don't let just anybody in here," she stated icily.

"What do you mean?" I asked, wiping my nose and eyes.

"To make a reservation with us, you need a special membership card," she answered."And based on your appearance, I don't think you can afford one."

Her words hit more than I expected. That’s when I caught a glimpse of myself in a glass reflection. A wrinkled uniform, hair all over the place, exhaustion stamped on my face.

I didn’t bother saying anything. I just turned to go. One last look at Ryan and his date and he was still caught up in her, didn’t even look elsewhere or glance my way.

“We really need to tighten our security. Strays just walk in now,” the waitress muttered as I walked out but that was the least of my worries.

I sat in my car, feeling sad and empty. I never pictured my life without Ryan. We have been together for a long time, from the time I arrived in New York from Vermont. Our meeting was as though it was predestined, he was so charming and sweet until he landed his first role at a Marketing firm and suspiciously got promoted in a very short time then everything changed.  He even suggested we start saving for our wedding. Excited, I agreed without hesitation and poured almost ninety percent of my salary into the account he created, an account he promised he’d add me as a signatory later. That never happened.

I loved him so much, I actually begged him everyday to take me on a vacation, it didn't matter where. He finally agreed, but only if I covered eighty percent of the cost. I rejoiced. took on extra shifts, worked late, wore myself out just to get the money.

I was obsessed with him. Still am, if I’m honest.

I didn’t realize I had been crying for almost thirty minutes until someone tapped my car window.

It was the same waitress.

“Ma’am, I’ve told you already,” she snapped. “You don’t belong here. Leave before I call the cops.”

She looked down on me, I could tell she’d been watching ever since I walked out. I didn’t bother arguing. I just started my car and drove away.

Right before I left, I saw Ryan step out with Sylvia.

He’s probably heading home, I thought. I should go home too. But first, I had to go back to work and ask for the rest of the day off.

When I got there, I lied to management, told them my mom was sick and needed me. They didn’t ask questions, they just let me go. Honestly, they seemed almost too understanding. First time I ever asked for time off.

I drove as fast as I could, hoping I’d beat Ryan home. But I couldn’t get the image of him feeding Sylvia, out of my mind,  the way he looked at her made me sad. I tried to shake it, but it just hurt more.

Am I making this bigger than it is or did I only see what I was afraid to see? I asked as I gripped the steering wheel tighter, pressing harder on the accelerator.

I was driving beyond the speed limit but I didn't mind. Everything inside me felt heavy, my mind drifted a bit. Before I could regain focus

Screech!.

My car slammed into a metal and everything went black.

  • THE HEIRESS HE ALMOST LOST   Chapter 17: Summer in Winter.

Stephen’s POV. After the last guard left the mansion, I hurriedly changed into my pyjamas and headed downstairs. I spotted Summer wandering around. Quietly, I approached her from behind and draped the blanket I had grabbed earlier over her shoulders. I heard her gasp softly as she quickly wrapped it around herself and turned in confusion. “Come with me,” I simply said before turning and walking away. For a few seconds, I didn't hear any footsteps behind me. I turned sharply and saw her still standing in the same spot, clutching the blanket with an irritated expression. “Why are you not moving?” I asked impatiently, hoping she would just follow me. But she didn’t, instead she snapped. “Why are you doing this? Why can't you just let me come to work every day from home?” Her question caught me off guard, leaving me silent for a few moments. I disliked the fact that she was right and was questioning things. This could interfere with my plans. “It's either this or you pay

Confused and terrified, I rushed toward Stephen and caught him just before his body completely hit the floor. His weight nearly dragged me down with him.“Stephen!” I called frantically, supporting him against my chest.Panic instantly swallowed me whole.I quickly brought out my phone with trembling fingers, trying to dial emergency services, but there was no signal.Nothing.Not even a single bar.“What the fuck is happening?!” I yelled helplessly.Stephen’s breathing became heavier. The veins along his neck stood out sharply while sweat gathered around his forehead. He looked like he was fighting hard not to collapse completely.Fear engulfed me instantly.I tightened my grip around him while screaming for help, but the only thing that answered me was my own echo bouncing around the empty mansion. No guards. No workers.Nobody.Just us.My heart pounded violently as I looked down at him again. That was when I noticed his lips moving slightly, he was muttering something.Barely audi

  • THE HEIRESS HE ALMOST LOST   Chapter 15: Beauty and the Ruthless beast

Summers’s POV The moment the last guard stepped out of the mansion and slammed the metallic door shut, my worst fear became real. For a few seconds, I just stood there in the middle of the massive hallway, hugging myself tightly while cold air wrapped around my body like invisible fingers. The mansion had always been cold. But now? Now it felt worse. The temperature somehow dropped the second everyone left, turning the entire place into a massive freezer. A hard shiver ran through me. I rubbed my arms slowly, my teeth almost chattering as I wandered through the enormous hallway. ‘Who even keeps their house this cold?’ I thought as I looked around in confusion. At this point, every normal person would need a blanket just to stay alive in here. Suddenly, something warm dropped over my shoulders. A blanket. I gasped softly and grabbed it quickly. Confused, I turned around immediately. And there he was. Stephen Jones stood a directly behind me like he had appe

Stephen’s POV“You just killed my son…”The voice lingered in my ear even after the call went silent. For a moment, nobody spoke. The only sound inside the SUV was the low roar of the engine speeding down the empty highway.“Sir… who was that?” Cole asked curiously.I didn’t say a word, instead I slowly lowered the phone and placed it on speaker. The call was still connected, Then the voice spoke again, hoarse and terrifyingly calm.“You know the rules, Stephen… an eye for an eye.”A wicked laugh erupted through the speaker before the call finally ended. With just one glance at Cole, he already knew what to do. By morning, I was certain he would have traced every possible lead connected to the call. But honestly, the threat didn’t bother me. The only thing on my mind was the young girl I saw tonight… and how to get a DNA test done secretly. And when I said secretly, I meant completely secret. So secret that even the people closest to me wouldn’t know about it.I had learned the hard w

  • THE HEIRESS HE ALMOST LOST   Chapter 13: The Devil Wears a Black Suit

For a few seconds, I remained frozen on the ground, staring at Bernard as he fled in terror. He looked completely shattered, like he had just seen death itself standing behind me.Confused, I slowly turned around. That was when I saw him.A tall man stood a few steps away from me, dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit. Two bodyguards stood silently behind him like shadows. I had no idea who he was or where he came from, but at that moment, I was grateful he appeared when he did.The man’s face remained calm and unreadable, yet his presence alone made the air feel heavier. There was something dangerously cold about his eyes, the kind that could make a grown man confess his sins without being asked twice.Without saying a single word, he tilted his head slightly toward his bodyguards.Immediately, the two men went after Bernard.I slowly stood up, adjusting my dress with shaky hands, still trying to recover from what had almost happened.“Thank you, sir,” I said quietly, my heart s

The moment I arrived at the hotel, almost all the heads turned immediately. People openly stared at the Bentley as I drove in slowly, Some even pulling out their phones to get a reel. The entire venue looked breathtaking, nothing like the regular company events I was used to. Luxury cars filled the parking lot, ushers running around in black uniforms, and a long red carpet stretched proudly toward the grand entrance. The old me would have hidden somewhere far away from everyone, probably parked in the darkest corner just to avoid attention. But the new me liked the attention my car was getting, and tonight, I was going to channel every bit of it to myself.Slowly, I brought my Bentley to a stop right in front of the red carpet where most of my colleagues were taking pictures. I knew that was the perfect spot to snatch all the attention. And judging from their curious glances, I was certain they were trying to figure out who had arrived in such an expensive car.I purposely remained i

Yes! It’s a car key! AWAKENING I woke up in an all-white room, my head ached as I struggled to remember what happened. I looked around wondering where I was. The walls were spotless, the bed was sparkling. The air humidified and purified, a cool breeze blew from a corner and spread across the whole room. This must be
