Chapter 38

Talia wanted to wake up, but she couldn’t tear herself away from the nightmare she was having.

It was the same scene over and over again.

Alina pointed at her in front of the whole school, exposing her as her dead cousin who was actually alive. Her uncle’s angry face. Guards dragging her away, and finally the blade coming down on her neck.

She woke up gasping, her sheets soaked with sweat. Her heart pounded so hard it hurt.

She looked around, relieved to find that she was still in her dorm room.

“It’s just a dream, Talia,” she muttered to herself, and buried her face in her pillow.

She wanted to scream but couldn't, afraid that Damon would hear.

A knock on her arm made her jump, she turned to see Damon.

"Get up. It's time for training."

Of course. She'd almost forgotten they had training this morning.

Talia sat up, still breathing hard. Her hands shook as she pushed her hair back. "Coming."

    Chapter 46Mrs. Doris stood at the head of the conference table. Her face was serious, and she tried to hide the way her legs bounced up and down in agitation. The teachers and staff filled the chairs around her. Everyone who worked at the Academy stared at her with confusion.
