SHARON'S POV. “Sharon.” My stepmother started calling my name so loudly from downstairs. I was already brainstorming on many things when I heard her call. I checked my phone and it was just past seven in the morning.. “Sharon,” she yells again. I quickly got out of bed and walked downstairs to our big kitchen, where I saw my stepmother and her daughter sitting at the table. Her mother was masking her face with heavy make-up, not just that, but also painting her hands. “Sharon, I've been calling you and you're snubbing me. It's time you can see that I am swamped. Get to work and prepare breakfast. I'm getting Sandra prepared for tonight. “What is happening tonight? It's just 14 hours away. Why are you starting now?”. I asked. She paused what she was doing and angrily stared at me. “You don't question my authority in this house. I'm doing it now because I want her to look the best amongst everyone.” The whole thing they were doing was pissing me off. I sighed and left to make breakfast so that I won't say more than I’ve said. Tonight, our new Alpha turns 20, which means he can now find his mate. Alphas find their mate when they turn 20; others make wolves find theirs when they turn 18. That is so, so that they can be sure they are mature enough to start the rest of their lives with their mate. Every girl that is not his mate will be out there tonight, hoping they are his mate, and if, per adventure, he did not find his mate, then he will choose from the girls. For me, it was so weird for all the girls in the pack to line up like cows to be sold just because they wanted the Alpha to be their mate. I didn't see that as a good idea so I wanted to stay at home. My step agreed I should stay at home. I was more beautiful than her daughter. She didn't want me any closer to the event. I also agreed but my dad refused and almost shut my mouth with a slap. He said this because I had not found my mate, and I was already 19. He prays I find my mate. Sandra, my half-sister, just turned 18, and her mother also wants her to find her mate by all means, which made her spend a lot of money just to get her prepared. My father and mother had grown up together. When they were growing up, they were of the same age and neither of them had found their mate; they chose each other because they loved each other. Just a few years after my dad married my mum, she was involved in a fatal motor accident that took her life. That broke my dad, and he decided not to have another mate, but because I was so tender, he chose Cecilia, my stepmother, so that she could take care of me. Shortly after Cecilia moved in, age became pregnant. About a year later, Sandra was born. Cecilia hated me so much because I was more beautiful than her daughter and would always want my dad to love her daughter than me. My dad will always refuse and show equal love to both of us. Whatever he does for Sandra, he’ll do for me. Anything he does for me, he will definitely do for my sister, Sandra, and that made us love him very much. —-- The house has been busy all day. Sandra and her friends have been at it all day so I decided to avoid them and stay in my room. A lot was going through my mind when a knock pulled me from my thoughts, and my best friend Nora stepped in. “Hey, baby girl. Hope you're ready? “Yes of course, I said faintly. Nora and I had agreed to get ready together and that was why she showed up. She entered my room, and after we must have talked a little, we helped each other to put on make up and pack our hair. She helped out with my sandy long blonde hair in a lot of braids that began on the right side of my hand to end hanging over my left shoulder, and she also put clips on it. She made me up and it was very light. It was quite different from Sandra's own, as her makeup was so much as though she was about to wed. Looking at the mirror, I loved what she did and went to get my dress, a silver long midnight blue silk dress. When it was time, they all left to walk over to the pack house. Many girls were already standing outside the pack house, and some were dressed up formally. Some were dressed in skimpy dresses that were so revealing that I was ashamed of them. When it was time, an elder came out from the pack house for the announcement. The moment the door opened, a strong smell of spice hit my nose that woke my wolf up. Anything that wakes my wolf this way is definitely pointing at something that I may not be seeing. “Welcome, everyone, especially to the beautiful unmated she-wolves. You all know why we're here. We are here for Alpha Roland to give or choose a mate to be by his side as his partner. All of us girls were now instructed to stand next to each other in one queue. We all arranged ourselves quickly, and Sandra was standing in front of me while I was standing behind her. The instruction was for one straight line, but because the queue was becoming too long, they made the line three so that it wouldn't be that long. “I also want to inform you that Alpha Rolland has been able to smell a captivating smell and it could be his mate He’s excited and will soon be out to find out who she is.”SHARON'S POV For the first time in a long while, I woke up smiling. It felt strange, foreign even but good. Peace sat lightly on my chest instead of the usual dread. Morris was beside me, one arm draped protectively over my waist, his steady breathing grounding me. We were talking again. Laughing again. Touching without fear or suspicion. We were us again.Yet beneath the happiness, something heavy pressed against my heart.A secret.Something I needed to say but didn't know how to begin.I turned slowly, studying his face. He looked relaxed, even younger, like the man I had fallen in love with before this issue that almost made me lose him. Before misunderstanding, silence, and pride nearly destroyed us. Somebody like Morris, there's a way he behaves. If this whole thing were not settled, he could just wake up one morning and decide to go where he wished and stay there until God knows when. He prioritizes his peace so much."You're staring," he murmured, his eyes still closed..I sm
SANDRA'S POV.As I continued my stroll under the artificial glow of the lanterns, my steps slowed, and then completely stopped. The answer came to me so suddenly that I laughed out loud. Why struggle with Elder Kael when I could erase him?Yes.Eliminate him completely. Not imprisonment. Not humiliation. Not banishment. Death.A clean, silent death.I tilted my head back slightly, staring at the sky. The Moon Goddess watches everything or so they claimed. Let her watch this too. Elder Kael could go to the other world and continue his irritating righteousness. He had lived long enough, spoken enough, and interfered enough. The beauty of the idea lay in its simplicity. No witnesses. No trails. No blame.Assassination.My lips curved slowly. It was delicious. Perfect. Heavy enough that he would never recover from it because there would be no recovery at all.Now the question was: Who?I needed someone dangerous to carry this out. So fearless. Someone who could kill without shaking and sl
SANDRA'S POV.As I walked down to my chamber, my steps echoed softly against the stone floors, but my mind was louder than any sound around me.Elder Kael. That name kept scraping against my thoughts like a thorn buried too deep to pull out easily. He has been a thorn in my flesh ever since Roland died. So persistent, irritating, and too sensitive for my liking. Every time I thought I had ignored him enough, he returned with his stubborn gaze and that irritating sense of righteousness.I needed to deal with him..But how?I turned possibilities over and over in my mind, but none felt complete. None felt cruel enough, or clean enough. By the time I reached my corridor, irritation had coiled tight in my chest...Then I saw someone standing by my chamber door.I slowed. From afar, I couldn't place who it was. The figure stood too still, like a shadow that has learned how to breathe. My guards were nowhere in sight. That alone annoyed me. As I moved closer, the dim light caught his face.
SHARON'S POV.I jumped out of bed the moment I heard the knock. My heart was already racing before my feet even touched the floor. I didn't bother checking the mirror properly; I just grabbed a clean dress, slipped into it, and hurriedly smoothed my hair with my fingers. My mind has only one name.Morris.The dream was still fresh in my head. My mother's voice still echoed, as if it had been etched into my bones."Stay inside. He will come."I took a deep breath, straightened my shoulders, and opened the door with a hopeful smile already forming on my lips.It died instantly. It wasn't Morris. It was the housemaid, standing there politely with a tray of food in her hands."Good morning, ma," she greeted softly."Oh," I said, forcing a smile. My heart sank so fast it almost hurt. "Good morning."She stepped in, placed the tray on the small table near the window, and adjusted the cover. The aroma of the food filled the room, but I suddenly wasn't hungry anymore."This is your breakfast,
SHARON'S POV.I was standing in the middle of a forest. That was the first thing I noticed, the silence. Thick. Heavy. The kind that presses against your ears until your heart starts beating too loudly in your chest. Tall trees surrounded me, their branches twisting together like secrets whispered but never shared. A pale mist hung low, brushing against my ankles as though the earth itself was breathing.I looked down at my feet. Bare.My heart skipped. I knew I was dreaming, yet everything felt too real. The chill of the air. The scent of damp leaves. The faint ache in my chest that had followed me even into sleep. Then I felt it.Someone was standing in front of me.I raised my head slowly, dread curling in my stomach.A woman stood a few steps away, facing me. She wasn't threatening. She wasn't smiling either. She just stood watching me.My breath caught. She looked like me.Not exactly, but enough to make my knees weaken. She had my nose. The same curve, the same delicate slope.
SANDRA'S POV.I managed to get to the door on legs that still trembled, because Eron had awakened in me something sweet and I refused to be quiet. The kind of pleasure he stirred wasn't ordinary. It clung to my skin, slowing my thoughts and making the world feel distant and unimportant. I reached for the handle, breath uneven, senses dulled by heat and arrogance and power. The door opened. I was glad I didn't forget to lock the door this time because the way the person knocking was banging on the door, if it was opened, he would have pushed me and seen Eron and me together. But whoever it is will not cough because it is what I want that I get. Power is so sweet I opened the door and there he was.Elder Kael stood in the doorway like a man who had come prepared for war. His shoulders were squared, his jaw set, eyes sharp with judgment and something else, defiance, perhaps. The corridor framed him harshly.Anger detonated inside me.Not the kind that flares and fades. This one settled
