Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Three

Tristan's POV

Some people say patients in a coma can still hear what's happening around them. Others believe it's like being trapped in a deep sleep, unaware of the world outside.

I don't know which is true, but I hope it's the first one for Andrea.

I hope she can hear me when I speak to her. I hope some part of her knows I'm here, waiting for her to wake up.

Others believe it's like being trapped in a deep sleep, unaware of the world outside.I don't know which is true, but I hope it's the first one for Andrea.I hope she can hear me when I speak to her. I hope some part of her knows I'm here, waiting for her to wake up.I walk closer to her bed, and the sight of her stops me for a moment. Her head is bandaged, her eyes are closed, and her body lies still beneath the white sheets. The only sign that she's still with me is the steady rise and fall of her chest and the quiet beeping of the monitor beside her.I pull the chair closer and sit down, reaching for her hand.“Hey, baby. It's me again.”I rub the back of her hand with my thumb, managing a faint smile despite the ache in my chest.“I know you're probably tired of seeing my face already, but unfortunately for you, I'm not going anywhere.”She doesn't res

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-TwoTristan's POVI wasn't allowed to see Andrea again last night.Since I'm not legally related to her, her parents still have the final say over who gets access to her while she's unconscious. But I wasn't going to give up.That's why I'm back at the hospital this morning, determined to try again despite the warning I received yesterday. I know I have no right to demand anything from her family, especially after what I've done, but I need to see Andrea. I need to be close to her, even if she can't hear me, and I need her parents to understand that I'm not walking away from her again.I'm not expecting them to forgive me overnight. I only want a chance to prove that I mean what I say. With a bouquet of lilies in my hands, I make my way down the corridor toward the ICU. I spent a ridiculous amount of time choosing the flowers this morning, wondering whether they would seem thoughtful or insulting. In the end, I bought them anyway. It wasn't much, but I

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-OneTristan's POV“I'm aware that Andrea recently opened her own event planning company,” I tell Stephanie. “I want you to help me keep it running while she's here.”Her eyebrows rise. “So you knew?”I frown slightly. “Knew what?”“That she opened her business.” She lets out a disbelieving laugh. “And you couldn't even send her a congratulatory message?”I have no answer for that.“I couldn't,” I admit. “We weren't speaking.”“Of course. You two were on no contact, so you couldn't even send one simple message.” She shakes her head, disappointment written all over her face. “Tristan, you have no idea how much she hoped you'd be there for her. She wanted you to see what she'd built. She wanted you to be proud of her.”Her words hit harder than I expect.I knew Andrea was working toward something of her own, but I hadn't realized how much my presence still mattered to her. Even after everything I'd done, she'd wanted to share her happiness with me.And I'd

Chapter One Hundred and TwentyTristan's POVA few minutes later, the nurse returns.“I'm sorry, but the medical team needs to carry out a procedure. You've spent enough time with her for now. We'll let you know when you can visit again.”I look at Andrea one last time, reluctant to leave her side, but there's nothing I can do to change the situation. With a heavy heart, I release her hand and follow Daniel out of the ICU.Once we're in the corridor, I slip my hands into my pockets.“Call her family. Tell them what happened, that she's in the ICU, and that they need to get here as soon as possible.” I swallow, forcing myself to continue. “They deserve to know the truth. And when they get here, I'll explain everything myself.”Daniel studies me for a moment. “Are you sure you're ready for that?”“No.” I glance toward the ICU doors. “But that doesn't change anything. I've already done enough damage to that family. They deserve to hear it from me.”“I'll call them.”“There's something el

Chapter One Hundred and NineteenTristan's POV“Excuse me.” I stop a nurse hurrying down the corridor. “I haven't received any update. Please, where is she now?”The nurse slows down, glancing at the chart in her hand. “Miss Vale has been transferred to the ICU for close monitoring.”“Can I see her now?”“Yes, but...” Her eyes wander over my bloodstained shirt and the dirt covering my clothes. She hesitates before meeting my gaze again. “Not like this, sir.”“Why?” My patience is hanging by a thread. “I'll be quick. I just need to see her, even if it's only for a minute.”“I understand, but you need to change into clean hospital scrubs before entering the ICU. We can provide a set for you, and you'll need to wash your hands properly.”“I can't wait for…”“Tristan, just do what she's asking,” Daniel interrupts, placing a hand on my shoulder. “Changing won't take long.”I look between them, ready to argue, but the nurse is already pointing us toward a nearby bathroom where I can clean u

The tears come so hard that I can barely breathe, and for once, I don't try to stop them.I cry for Andrea, for the child I haven't even met, and for every word I wish I could take back. Daniel holds me without saying anything, allowing me to fall apart in a way I've never allowed myself to do in front of anyone. When I finally pull away, I wipe my face with the heel of my hand and draw a shaky breath. We wait.A nurse eventually comes out to tell us Andrea is undergoing emergency surgery. I ask question after question, but all she can tell me is that the doctors are doing everything they can. Once she leaves, I resume pacing while Daniel stays close, occasionally checking his phone but never straying far.Time has never moved so slowly. My hands won't stop shaking, and I keep staring at the
