Sophia’s POV

The air in the house feels heavier now, as if the walls themselves are closing in. Lucas’s paranoia has turned our home into a gilded cage, cameras at every corner, security guards lingering like silent sentinels. I clutch my phone, the screen dim, hiding Julian’s latest message: “Meet me tonight. We need to plan.” My thumb hovers over the reply button, but fear paralyzes me. What if Lucas finds out? What if he sees through my lies?

The pregnancy test result burns in my mind, a secret that could unravel everything. I’m carrying Julian’s child, and every day I hide it feels like a betrayal not just to Lucas, but to myself. I want to tell Julian everything, to lean into his strength, but the risk is too great. Lucas’s temper has grown erratic since Julian took over as CEO. He’s not just controlling now; he’s dangerous.

I hear the front door slam, and my heart lurches. Lucas storms into the living room, his gray eyes glinting with suspicion. “Where were you today?” he demands, his voice low and venomous.

“I didn’t go anywhere,” I lie, my voice steady despite the tremor in my hands. “I’ve been here all day.”

He steps closer, his cologne sharp and suffocating. “Don’t play games with me, Sophia. I know you’ve been sneaking around.” His hand shoots out, grabbing my wrist, and I wince as his grip tightens. “Who are you talking to? That bastard Gray?”

“No!” I yank my arm back, heart pounding. “I’m not talking to anyone, Lucas. You’re paranoid.”

His laugh is cold, devoid of humor. “Paranoid? You think I don’t see the way he looks at you? The way you blush when his name comes up?” He leans in, his breath hot against my ear. “You’re mine, Sophia. Don’t forget that.”

I swallow hard, forcing myself to meet his gaze. “I’m not your property.”

His eyes narrow, and for a moment, I think he might hit me. But then he steps back, a cruel smile curling his lips. “We’ll see about that.” He turns and stalks out, leaving me trembling.

That night, I slip out of the house, using the back gate where the cameras are glitchy. Julian’s waiting in his sleek black car, parked in the shadows of an alley. His blue eyes soften when he sees me, but there’s a hardness there too, a determination that both comforts and unnerves me.

“You look exhausted,” he says, reaching for my hand. His touch is warm, grounding.

“I can’t keep doing this,” I whisper. “Lucas is watching me. He knows something’s wrong.”

Julian’s jaw tightens. “I’m working on it, Sophia. I’ve got people digging into his financials. He’s been siphoning money from your family’s company for years. If we can prove it, we can take him down.”

My breath catches. “You’re sure?”

He nods. “I’ve got evidence, bank statements, offshore accounts. But we need to be careful. He’s desperate, and desperate men are dangerous.”

I bite my lip, the weight of my secret pressing against my chest. “Julian… there’s something else.” My voice cracks. “I’m pregnant. And it’s yours.”

His eyes widen, and for a moment, he’s silent, processing. Then he pulls me into his arms, his embrace fierce and protective. “We’ll figure this out,” he murmurs against my hair. “I won’t let him hurt you or our child.”

Tears sting my eyes as I cling to him. For the first time, I feel a flicker of hope, but it’s quickly overshadowed by fear. “Lucas can’t know,” I say. “If he finds out…”

“He won’t,” Julian promises, his voice firm. “But you need to leave him, Sophia. File for divorce. I’ll protect you.”

I pull back, shaking my head. “It’s not that simple. My family… they’ll disown me. The company”

“Screw the company!” Julian’s voice rises, then softens. “You deserve a life, Sophia. A real one. With someone who sees you.”

His words hit me like a tidal wave, stirring something deep within me. I want to believe him, to trust in this future he’s offering, but the chains of my marriage feel unbreakable. “I need time,” I say, my voice barely audible.

He nods, but his eyes are intense, searching. “I’ll wait. But not forever.”

We sit in silence, the weight of our choices pressing down. Then, my phone buzzes. A text from Lucas: “Where the hell are you?”

Panic seizes me. “He knows I’m gone,” I whisper, my hands shaking.

Julian’s face hardens. “Get in the car. I’m taking you somewhere safe.”

As we speed through the city, my heart races. Lucas’s text echoes in my mind, a warning of the storm to come. But as I glance at Julian, his strong profile illuminated by the city lights, I wonder if I’m running toward freedom or straight into a new kind of danger.

As Julian’s car pulls into a secluded safehouse, a shadowy figure watches from a distance, their phone glowing with a photo of Sophia and Julian together. Who’s watching, and what do they plan to do with this damning evidence?

I stagger back, my hand flying to my chest, expecting to feel the wet warmth of blood, but there’s nothing just the pounding of my heart. The figure in the doorway lowers the silenced pistol, their face obscured by the shadows, but their posture is calm, deliberate, like a predator who’s already claimed their kill. My eyes dart past them, searching for the target, and I see it: a body slumped in the grass just outside the cabin’s back door, motionless, blood pooling beneath them. My stomach churns. Who’s dead? Emily? One of Julian’s men? Or someone else entirely?“You’re lucky,” the figure says, their voice low, unfamiliar, tinged with a cold amusement that sends a shiver down my spine. “I wasn’t aiming for you. Yet.” They step forward, the faint moonlight catching the edge of a hood, but I still can’t make out their face. My hand tightens on the gun in my waistband, but I don’t draw i

The thought of her with him Julian Gray, that smug bastard who’s stolen my company and now dares to touch what’s mine twists my gut like a knife.
