LYRA

Neither of them said anything, and the longer the silence went on, the heavier it felt.

"Say something," I said finally, my voice cracking right down the middle. "Either of you. Tell me she's lying. Tell me it's impossible, tell me your fathers would never do that. Please, say anything, just stop standing there."

Orion’s hands dropped from my shoulders. He stepped back and dragged a hand through his hair. The motion felt so wrong on him, Orion always had something to say, always made a jok

ZEVIARTwo days were left until the chapel, and I'd spent most of the morning watching Lyra pretend that number wasn't sitting behind every single thought in her head. She was quiet over breakfast, methodical in a way that told me she was running through backup plans instead of actually tasting her food. Orion wasn't doing much better, he'd snapped at Rhys under his breath twice before we'd even finished coffee, some private argument between a man and his wolf that neither of us needed details to understand. None of us had talked about the chapel directly since the morning we found the note. It hung between every conversation anyway, an unspoken weight none of us seemed ready to bring up again so soon."You should eat something before we go," I told Lyra, watching her push eggs around her plate without actually lifting her fork more than twice."I'm eating.""You're rearranging the plate.""Same thing, functionally," she said, though she did finally take a bite just to prove a point.

LYRAI woke up tangled between the two of them, sunlight already spilling gold across the bed. For a long moment, I just let myself lie there, unhurried, before the day could demand anything from me.Orion was still asleep with one arm thrown over my waist and his face buried against my shoulder. He was breathing slowly and even, in a way that showed me just how much the last three weeks had taken out of him. Zeviar was awake, but he hadn't moved. His fingers were tracing idle patterns against my hip, completely content to just watch the morning arrive instead of rushing to meet it."You're staring," I said, echoing his own words from last night."I've earned it," he said, totally unrepentant. "Considering how much of last night you spent making sure I wouldn't stare at anything else for a while."I laughed, low and warm, and felt Orion stir against my shoulder. He grumbled something incoherent into my skin before finally lifting his head, hair a complete disaster and eyes still half-

LYRAThe door closed behind us with a soft, final click.Orion kept his hand at the small of my back the whole short walk inside, fingers spread wide and possessive, like he needed to keep touching me to prove tonight was real. Zeviar went ahead of us into the living room and turned on the low lamp by the couch. Warm light pooled across the worn wood floors, leaving the rest of the house in shadow.Nobody said anything for a second. Then Orion turned me toward him. He framed my face with his hands, his thumbs brushing the corners of my mouth. The look in his eyes was completely raw, weeks of distance and night calls stripped away. “I missed you,” he said, his voice already rough. “Both of you. More than I kept saying.”I got up on my toes and kissed him.It started out soft, just a simple press of lips to confirm he was actually here. But then Orion made a low, hungry sound in his throat and pulled me in hard. One hand tangled in my hair while the other grabbed my waist, yanking me t

LYRAI heard the car before I saw it, gravel crunching up the long drive to the lake house. I was on my feet and moving toward the door before Zeviar had even looked up from the paperwork spread across the kitchen table."That'll be him," Zeviar said, a smile tugging at his mouth despite his best effort to look composed."Obviously," I said, already halfway down the hall.Orion was barely out of the car before I collided with him, wrapping my arms around his neck. He laughed into my hair and lifted me half off the ground with the force of the hug."Careful," he said. "I drove three hours listening to nothing but bad radio to get here. The least you could do is let me actually stand upright.""You're late," I said, though I didn't loosen my grip."I'm right on time. You just missed me an unreasonable amount." He finally set me down, his hands lingering on my waist as he studied my face, cataloging every detail he'd missed over our video calls. "You look tired.""I've been reading old b

WILLOWThe package arrived on a Tuesday, driven up from Emberclaw by one of Dad's people. It was a plain cardboard box with my name written on it in his careful, formal handwriting.I'd called him three days earlier, after a restless night spent thinking about everything Lyra was chasing – Caelum, the prophecy, whatever Aldric had confessed at that old manor. I kept coming back to the same thought, turning it over until I couldn't sleep: I had some of Mom's things. Not many, but a few, packed away in a box I'd left behind at Emberclaw when I moved from Ravenwood. I’d been too scared at the time to look through it properly, but if there was anything useful buried in there that might help Lyra find answers, it felt wrong to let it sit untouched in a closet three hours away while she searched everywhere else."You're sure you want this sent?" Dad asked me carefully over the phone. "There's no rush, Willow. Whatever's in that box will keep.""I'm sure," I'd told him, though my voice hadn'

LYRAThree days had passed since the manor, and I’d spent most of them right where Zeviar kept finding me: buried in the lake house study, surrounded by old bloodline records and half-legible council minutes, searching for any thread that might actually lead somewhere useful. Most of what I found was dust and disappointment. A few names cross-referenced against packs that had dissolved long ago, but nothing pointing toward Caelum, or Thalia, or anything solid enough to act on yet.Willow had taken to joining me most afternoons, curled up in the window seat with her own stack of books. We worked in a companionable silence that felt like its own small victory after everything that had happened between us. She’d started asking questions again, the easy, curious kind she used to ask before all of this began, and I found myself grateful for the simple normalcy of it in the middle of everything else."Anything?" she asked that morning, not looking up from her page."Nothing today," I admitt
