Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
Silas’s voice was sharp, tinged with urgency as he grabbed Emily by the wrist and demanded, "Where’s the dog?"

Emily froze, completely caught off guard that Silas even knew about the dog. She stammered out, "I-It wouldn’t stop barking today. I thought it wasn’t feeling well, so I brought it to the pet hospital."

She wasn’t lying. She had actually taken Snowy to the hospital. The dog had grown weak.

In our previous life, after I brought it home, I had cared for it meticulously. I thought it was just malnourished. I made soup for it, fed it nourishing broths, and kept it close by my side at all times. Even at work, I’d leave it in my car so I could check on it constantly, terrified something might go wrong.

Thanks to that care, it gradually improved. Its coat even became shinier and smoother. I worked myself sick looking after it.

However, this time around, Emily had no patience or energy for the dog. Her mind was consumed with one thing only—marrying Silas. She simply dumped the dog at the pet hospital.

Silas’s face darkened. "How could you just bring it to a pet hospital? That place is full of animals. How is it supposed to survive in there?"

Emily was stunned by the outburst and reflexively replied, "But… it is an animal…"

"Shut up!"

His expression turned even colder as he barked at her, then yanked her by the wrist and dragged her out of the room, completely ignoring the curious stares from everyone around.

Driven by curiosity, I followed them. Sure enough, we soon found Snowy at the hospital.

It was barking frantically inside a cage. The moment it saw Silas, it grew visibly excited, even having tear stains at the corners of its eyes.

Emily rushed forward to scoop it up. Although she still didn’t fully understand why Silas had suddenly asked about the dog, she’d pieced together on the way over that I’d once taken great care of it in our past life. So now, in front of Silas, she quickly tried to put on a show of being loving and devoted:

"Oh my sweet little Snowy, Mommy only left you here for a tiny bit. Why are you so scared, baby? Come, let Mommy give you a cuddle…"

Under her soothing voice, Snowy finally settled down, slowly resting in her arms.

Silas’s demeanor also softened. His eyes filled with something close to affection as he looked at Emily. "I never would've guessed you were so kindhearted. I like girls with compassion. Tell me, do you have a boyfriend?"

Emily’s face flushed bright red. She had been waiting to hear this moment for so long. She shook her head quickly. "N-No, Mr. Sullivan—oh, I mean, Silas. I don’t have a boyfriend."

"Is that so?" A small smile appeared at the corners of Silas’s lips. He stepped forward and took her hand. "Well, you do now."

Emily was so overwhelmed that she could barely believe her ears. Her cheeks turned crimson as she threw herself into Silas’s arms.

He gently returned the hug, his movements soft and warm, but I caught the flicker of disgust in his eyes.

Just then, the vet called out for Emily to settle the bill. Her face soured with annoyance, but she didn’t dare show it in front of Silas. So, she gritted her teeth, peeled herself away from him, and quickly followed the vet to the counter.

As she disappeared down the hall, Silas’s face shifted back to that cool, distant expression. He stepped forward, leaned close to the snowy white poodle, and murmured softly, "Just hang on for another two weeks. After that, it’ll all be over."

My heart clenched at those words.

Two weeks?

Silas was already this eager to act?

I grabbed the charm around my neck and let out a cold laugh."Father Alaric, word is you were expelled from the orthodox church years ago for practicing dark and forbidden rituals. Now you peddle your dirty magic for the rich. I had no choice but to go to your old church and ask for a protective charm. Let me also remind you: those who walk in evil will always meet their end."Ever since I was reborn, I had suspected that the whole thing was related to some dark and forbidden ritual. So I went to a church to secure a protective charm in advance. When I told Father Samuel Whitaker, the priest at the church what had happened, he was horrified that someone like me had been victimized. He promised to personally deal with this corrupt Father Alaric and said he’d show up soon. The moment I spoke, Father Alaric's face went pale."You went to my old master? What… what did you tell him? No, no, this isn’t good. Mr. Sullivan, I—I need to leave for a while!"He turned to run. However, Sila

When I came to, my hands were bound, and I was in Silas’s mansion. The only ones in the room were Silas, Snowy the talking poodle and Emily, who was kneeling not far from them and begging desperately."Mr. Sullivan, my body’s not a good fit. But I brought you Mia, just like you asked. If you switch her soul with Isla's, can you please let me go now?"Silas let out a cold laugh, then turned to the poodle. The poodle sneered back, baring its creepy little teeth as it spoke in that chilling, human voice, "It’s not that your body isn’t a fit. It’s that it’s filthy. You’ve slept with too many men. There’s too much residual ‘impurity’ in your flesh. If we went through with the soul transfer, it might damage me."But that friend of yours, Mia? She’s still a completely pure virgin which is rare these days. Only a body that clean is worthy of housing my noble soul."As she spoke, Silas called in a man named Father Alaric Voss who was dressed like a priest. The man entered the room and beg

The more I thought about it, the more terrified I became. In a panic, I ran to my computer and started digging through every piece of information I could find on Silas. Finally, buried deep in a sea of financial news articles, I found one tiny mention of his personal life."Three years ago, Silas Sullivan, CEO of the Sullivan Group, lost his first love, Isla Shaw, in a devastating car accident. Her body was severely mutilated in the crash. Interestingly, her beloved white toy poodle survived unscathed and even made its way home to the Sullivan residence all on its own…"Reading that, a chill ran down my spine. Now, I understood everything.Three years ago, after Isla died, her soul hadn’t fully dissipated. For some reason, it had become attached to her pet poodle. For the past three years, Silas had been trying to find a way to extract her soul and return it to a human body.If I was right, then in my past life, and now in this one with Emily, Silas had been using women as vessel

I clapped a hand over my mouth, gasping in shock. So, I hadn’t been wrong.Snowy could really talk.In my previous life, I’d once accidentally overheard Silas speaking to Snowy, and I even heard it reply. At the time, I thought I was hallucinating. Now, I finally had proof. After I died, Silas had looked absolutely frantic. He rushed me to the hospital for emergency treatment, and even after they declared me dead, he insisted they keep trying to resuscitate me.Back then, I’d thought, that it was because he couldn’t bear the thought of his bride dying on their wedding day. However, I heard him say to the poodle, "It’s all that idiot Emily’s fault. She ruined everything. Now that Mia is dead, we can’t use her body anymore. We’ll need to find another candidate."Nestled in his arms, Snowy replied in an equally furious tone, "She totally screwed us! You'd better make her suffer. We spent so long planning this, and now it’s all gone to waste!"I had believed, in that moment, that m

I gasped sharply. That voice! It was exactly the same one I heard right before I died in my past life!Who was it? Who was speaking to Emily?Emily clearly heard it too. She whipped around in a panic. "Who said that?!"She spun in a circle, holding up her phone and scanning the entire room. But there was no one there, just her and Snowy. There was no other person in sight. So, naturally, she turned her suspicion toward me."Mia, what kind of creepy trick are you pulling? What gift for Snowy? This is my wedding! If anyone’s getting gifts, it’s me!""That wasn’t me," I said flatly, staring at the video screen. The unease in my gut was growing.Nevertheless, Emily didn’t take it seriously. She was just about to throw another insult my way when Silas’s voice cut in from off camera."Emily, are you ready?"She spun around in delight. "Ready! Silas, look! How do I look in my dress—?"Smack! Before she could finish, Silas slapped her hard across the face. Then, he glared at her, s

The next morning, as soon as I walked into the office, I heard coworkers gossiping all around me:"Emily is such a manipulative vixen. I can’t believe she actually locked down Mr. Sullivan! Word is, he’s already confirmed publicly that he’s her boyfriend!""I heard it was love at first sight. Not only did he admit to the relationship, but they’re apparently getting married really soon!""Holy crap! How did Emily pull this off? Why is she so lucky? She’s actually marrying into high society? Is the bar that low now?!"…Right in the middle of their chatter, Emily walked in, decked out head to toe in designer labels, her sunglasses perched glamorously on her nose. Behind her trailed a man who looked like a bodyguard. She pulled off her sunglasses and looked around the office with smug superiority."I told you all I’d marry rich. None of you believed me. You better show some respect now. I’m the CEO’s fiancée!"Then, she strutted right up to me."Mia, you must be dying of jealousy
