I waited for Eva to come back and fill me in on what had transpired and what exactly the alpha's mother wanted to discuss with her. I felt angry, curious, and worried all at the same time. My greatest concern was that Eva would make a confession or that she would say something that would get us into trouble. When she was younger, Eva never lied, and she never lied when she was under pressure.

Eva arrived hastily, and it appeared as though she was scanning the area around us out of concern that she was being followed.

I moved closer to her and took her hand in mine, and then I asked her, "What happened? What's the matter? Is it safe to say that the situation with the alpha's mother is resolved?"

She made a shaking motion with her head, and then she pleaded with me, "Please, let's get out of this pack right now. We are unable to continue staying here."

I narrowed my eyes and questioned her as quickly as possible, "Why? I would appreciate it if you could explain everything to me
