03.

Olivia P.O.V

My eyes were bleeding from listening to Prince Charles bragging about  himself and all he had. My checks were sore because of the occasional smile and fake laughter and at this point I might have just walked away and damned the consequences. Trying to find something interesting to distract myself, I  started admiring the chandeliers which hung down from the ceiling, the crystal glass reflecting the light causing it to look like a sparkly ceiling diamond.

“Olivia…Olivia?”

“hmmm?” I said, almost immediately as he snapped me out of my thoughts.

“Weren't you listening to anything I said?”

Luckily before I could speak a sound made by a spoon hitting a glass interrupted. I gladly turned to face the speaker finally away from Charles even if it was just five minutes. It was a big relief to me.

“Hello” he said with a kind smile “ I hope we all are enjoying our evening” And there was muttered words of yes and he continued “ Well we have no one else to thank but the family of Donny”

What?! My heart skipped a beat as I slowly looked at my parents who were smiling but I knew that wasn't good, I didn't know when I stumbled and almost fell but got caught by Charlie.

“Are you okay?” he scanned my face, looking sincerely worried .

“I am fine, just a little dizzy” he didn't seem convinced, “ I am fine,” I reassured him with a smile. He nodded and led me to a chair to sit.

“I apologised for that mistake, probably the drinks are taking effect “ he attempted to make a joke and actually got the people laughing but I knew he was as scared as I was “ As I was saying we have no one else to thank but the prestigious Dennis family, and with that being said, a round applause as we invite Mr. and Mrs. Dennis and of course, their beautiful daughter, Olivia Dennis” As they clapped, I hurried to make my way to where my parents stood. When I got there, we began to move together like a decent, role-model family.

As we moved toward the aisle, they whispered praises

“What a lovely family.”

“Could they be more perfect?”

“How could they be so influential and yet so humble?”

It fuelled the ego of my parents knowing for a fact that their smiles just increased and the ignorance of these humans shocked me. They praised us like gods not knowing that we are indeed the devils in disguise, it sickened me how they were too blind to see the truth. Lost in admiration for us who were vile and sinister. The sad part of all this was that the few who knew them for who they were were silenced by fear, and others, death. The Dennis family didn’t tolerate any mistakes.  My parents were perfectionists and a protector of their image that even I wasn't allowed to make mistakes. When I was six ,I went out to play with my friends and ended up staining my dress and apparently that was ladylike and I was punished for being a child. Sometimes I doubted if they had a heart.

We weren't humans, we were witches. Witches were generalised as being wicked and as much as I hate to say this, they weren't wrong. If only the people knew that they had handed over one of the most influential positions of government to the witches that some still believed were myths.

The loud clapping snapped me out of my thoughts and brought me back to reality

“Thank you, you can go back to doing whatever you're engaged in,” my father announced. Mother took me aside and looking at her, I immediately knew why

“How are things going on with Prince Charles?” She was eager to know.  I debated on telling her the truth or just lying, it didn't really matter, it was probably going to have the same result.

“ I don't think he is my type” I finally said and the expression on her face was to die for. “If he isn't your type, then who is?” her face squeezed into a frown. “Stop being selfish, if it's not working now, it doesn't mean it will never work, these are sacrifices you make for your family…”

How hilarious, I was called selfish but she was the one that was selfish, if they really wanted a robot as their child they should have gotten one.

“Okay?” she said softly with an endearing smile, to an onlooker, it seemed like a heartfelt conversation between a mother and her daughter, if only they knew.

She finally walked away after squeezing my hand, a final warning.

I watched her walk away until she couldn't be seen in the crowd again, frustrated at my family but more angry with myself.  I couldn't for once talk back to her or maybe scream at her to let me live my life but all I did was to say okay like an obedient puppet .

“I have been looking—”

Before he could finish his statement I walked out, damn the consequences, I wasn't going to tolerate one moment of him talking about himself. I didn't know where I was going but I just needed a rest from all this.

Suddenly, my ears  picked up someone begging, whoever it was sounded very scared. I let my curiosity get the best of me and walked up towards where the voice was coming from.

“S-sir…it was a silly mistake” the voice pleaded.

I couldn't see who he was addressing at that moment but the voice was very familiar, too familiar that I already knew who it was

“Donte?” My father's voice was calm and there was silence in the room but he broke it with laughter, and soon he was shouting “Donte, how dare you make a fool out of my family and I out there. How dare you!?”

By this time, the man was already in the air and his pleading continued.  I found myself shedding tears, wanting to go and stop them but my legs were glued to the floor and I just stared.

My mother was in sight now as she walked around the floating man.“ What a shame, to think I liked you,” and with that, she snapped her hand and his head was off and his body fell to the ground immediately.  I gasped and immediately called the attention of my parents to my hiding place. My father came closer to me, the tears on my eyes were flowing  like a river and I hated them. My father’s eyes flicked over me in disgust like I repulsed me and he barked out, “No daughter of mine shall be a weakling, Do you understand that?” I didn't reply.

“DO YOU UNDERSTAND! “ he screamed at me. I moved back in fear as I nodded  and they both left the room, leaving me alone with a dead man in his own blood.
