While Dennis had retreated to come up with a new strategy, Lacey only had to deal with Tate. Rejecting him in front of his friends had been kind of funny, considering the way his friends reacted. And Dennis, the words she had used when he said they technically were still together always brought a smile to her face. It probably wasn't the the best she could have said, but it was good enough for her and good enough the make him keep his distance. It was easy for her to ignore the stares and little whispers, especially since she never heard what they who decided to make her a topic of their conversations were saying. Abby and her friends on the other hand always had impeccable timing on when to approach her and give a snarky remark. The good part about the remarks was that it was hardly ever about Dennis or Tate. She had a feeling those would come up soon.

Aside from the burnt house, during classes were the only times she was sure that no one would bother her. Unfortunately,

He'd done it again. Granted, it was only the second time, but he'd watched her getting into another car from his window. His head fell back over the back his couch, body slanting and arms spread out. What possessed him to speak as he had? Regret and guilt made him weak. And to think he'd left those feelings at the office. Her fury blazing eyes haunted him. Two days passed. They had work to do but he let her absence slide. Maybe if he left her alone to calm down, apologising would be much easier. "How far have you gone?" His father asked. "Far enough." He scratched his cheek. "Be more specific Nick. Suzanne says Lucille hasn't left this floor." "You listen to everything Suzanne says?" He sat back. "You upset the girl." "And I'll apologise. Don't get involved." "Why would I?" "Why are you asking me questions?" Neither of them intended to answer the other's questions. Bryan blinked once. "Don't you have a meeting soon?" "Don't you?" Nic

Strange, it didn't feel like she was in her room. Granted, a few times she'd felt that way on her bed. But for some reason, she knew once she opened her eyes, she'd find herself on a strange bed. Her eyes opened slowly. Damn it, she was right. She sat up abruptly upon realising. Crap, Nick Atkins' bed. She would do anything to go back to those few seconds before she remembered. She looked over to the other side of the bed, it was empty. So was the room. It was her best chance to sneak out. She got up and began dressing up. All the while panicking and hoping he wouldn't walk in at any second. Good thing the sun wasn't out yet. Nick worked on his computer, adjusting and readjusting things he had most likely gone over before. The rays from his monitor illuminating the small room. Through his slightly open study door, he heard the wooden floor boards creak accompanied by the sound of slow moving footsteps. He turned his head a bit. Not to see her walk away, as his head barely m

The loud ringing of His phone pulled him out of his sleep. He inhaled deeply as his eyes flew open. His vision a bit blurred, making him rub his eyes while sitting up from the couch he had passed out on and reaching for the phone. "Yeah." He said, stuffing his hand into the right corner of the couch for the tiny transparent ziplock. The interior of his apartment was dim. Thick dark drapes keeping the sun from streaming in. "It's not for another hour." He poured the drug on the coffee table, made it into three lines and went for it. The lines disappeared as he snorted. "But Mister A, we still have to go thr-" "I'll be there. Okay?" He raised his head and wiped his nose. "And stop panicking. You're my assistant. You've been slacking cause Mister Atkins assistant's been working with us. Pick up the damn pace." "Yes Mister A." Nick hung up. He rubbed his forehead and then his eyes again. He probably looked like crap, and smelled like on too. The shirt he had slept in looke

The girls talked about everything and laughed at everything. Buzzed from their drinking and still excited from the dancing. The back of the town car was alive with laughter on the drive back to Lucille's place. "Ok wait. Ok wait." Geegee said while trying to control her laughter. "Julian." "What about Julian?" Doris asked."Was Nina hurt? When she broke up with him." "You mean was Julian hurt?" Lucille questioned, the laughter in her eyes begging to burst. "No I mean Nina.""Then why did you say Julian?" Lucille chuckled. Geegee shrugged, eyes half closed. "You know her. Hurt is anger, anger is sometimes hurt." "Not just her. You too." Doris ruffled Lucille's hair."Hey!" Tabby called out. "Remember when you both had those songs? How old were you? Eighteen." She answered her own question. "And you and Nina called yourselves Redies?" Geegee smiled. "Those were cool songs. For that time.""Yeah they were." Doris agreed. "It's fun to dance to sometimes. But

The next day, Bryan called Lucille into his office. A smile on his face. "Well done Lucille. I hope working with Nick wasn't too bad. I know you didn't want to do it." "I didn't say I didn't." His smile brightened. "I think you deserve an explanation." "Explanation?" "Someone... or more, have been divulging information on the company to our competitors. We needed to know who. So only those who had the privilege of knowing these informations and-" He kept talking. Her mind was on the chores she had left undone at home. And how best to go about doing them. Then she heard, "I'm sure you understand." "I do." "Good. Now. Nick may have been the observer in all of this. But unfortunately, you will have to work with him some more. He reports directly to me." "You're keeping him on a leash?" She joked. He chuckled. "No. It's the job description." "So I will represent you again." "Yes, exactly. When the need arises. Obviously." She nodded. "That is

Pretending. That's all he'd been doing all this time. She'd figured it out like Nina knew she would. Why couldn't he just leave her alone? Why did he have to come in and say all those things and promise promises he was planning on skipping out on? The more she thought, the angrier she got. Rage flooding through her like all the thoughts of moments when he'd been good and the times he'd insulted her before they found out and all the things he'd said. He made her believe him and trust him all so he could leave. Lie lie lie that's all he did. She remembered how she called for him in the hospital and hated herself for it. Because she'd trusted him. Tears streamed down her cheeks. Because she believed him, missed the signs and he just lied and pretended with no- Lucille moved the nearest table, brushing jars, plates, glasses, covered half of of a whole cake- everything on the table to the ground with all the rage in her, screaming at the top of her lungs. Her hands fell by her side
