Am I On The Phone With Madelyn?

Madelyn's POV

I shoved Liam behind me and stared directly at the father of my children. I had no idea he was this rich, and until today I had no idea he was the CEO of this company and also the man I had slept with years ago. I had always delivered packages to other departments in the company but none of us knew the other.

I was panting for air. It wasn't until then that I realized I had been holding my breath. I was more than petrified. Liam had already risked being know by his father, if Black found about the other children, he would surely take them away from me. If it was taken to court, I'm sure he would win. I had no money, and money was the grease for us to win against CEO Black.

“ I'm not hiding anything else. It's just Liam, he's your child and that's all the information you need to know about me.”

“ What I need to know or not are not decided by you. I make the decisions here, lady.”

Arrogant asshole! If I hadn't been trying to get away from Dad and Cara, I wouldn't have slept with you moron, in the first place. But then, I was clearly at fault. He asked for nothing in return, I insisted I wasn't going to leave his house without doing so. Still, I'm not the only one at fault, at least a gentleman would have said no.

And so the battle continues in my head.

“ Now, don't make me ask twice..”

Guess this was the end of the road for me. If I lied that Liam had no siblings, he would eventually find out. So, selective truth would help than a blatant lie.

“ I have six kids.. But they're not yours, only Liam is your child.” I basically told a truth and a lie. If I was only going to loose Liam to him, then I can survive with the heartache. I can't imagine loosing all six babies to him.

“ Mom, that's a lie! Daddy don believe her, my siblings look just like you too.”

Liam!!! This little kid doesn't know how disappointed I am that he even came here all alone in the first place, let alone bringing the DNA result test along. How did they even find their father when I myself can't even recognize him?

“ Shut your mouth, Liam. I gave birth to my kids and I know what's the truth or not. Be quiet, or else..” I scolded him immediately and though I was being too harsh, I was doing all it takes to protect my kids from being taken away.

“ You won't dare talk to my son in that manner you wh..” maybe he subconsciously remembered Liam was right behind us so he swallowed whatever nasty words that were threatening to leave that arrogant mouth of his.

“ Go on. Say it. A whore? Cause I simply had kids for another man? Are you my husband?” I replied in defense. The last thing I would take is insults from a man who couldn't reject the advances of a girl simply because he knew he wouldn't be in the least affected.

“ What's your name?” not even an apology. An egoistic fellow to the core.

Now, Mr. Grumpy is suddenly interested in knowing my name. I mean, he wouldn't have thought there was any need for it that night. It was a one time thing and there was no need for personal details. We were done and I disappeared as quickly as I had appeared in his life. Who would have thought I would even had gotten pregnant or find out we live in the same city?

“ Madelyn.” that came out like a sneeze.

“ I'm CEO Black. I will be taking full responsibility for my child. Grandma would be so happy to see him. She had always wanted grandchildren.”

I was bored. Hell no mister, I'm not interested in listening to some ancient tale on how much your grandma loved kids. I have better things to worry about.

“ And he will be staying with you. I'm not taking him away, completely. He has my name now and every benefit he's supposed to have as CEO Black's child. Including my love and support.”

He spoke so perfectly well. His accent was flawless and his composure was something I had never seen in others. He was no double a horrible person but he seems to have his good sides.

“ Now, whose kids are those? The remaining five children you had. How old is Liam and what age range do they fall in?”

Seriously? You might as well ask how many men I have slept with, how many times I had aborted babies or how many men were warming my bed every single night.

“ Liam is seven. You don't need to know anything about the rest kids. Like I said, they're not yours! So why the need for personal details?”

“ Valerie is seven daddy! Same as Chloe, Newton, Nicholas and Daniel.”

“ Liam!!!!” this was obviously me screaming for the umpteenth time. Why do kids never know when to interrupt conversations or when exactly to keep their mouths shut?

A smile crawled slowly on his lips as he crouched to Liam's level and threw his hand on his shoulder as he subtly forced out information out of him. And Liam being Liam would have told him all he needed to know except he wouldn't be doing so this time. My death glare sent a message across and he kept his mouth shut.

“ Liam, could you do daddy a favour?”

No response.

“ Trust me, your mom wouldn't dare raise a finger on you. Can you tell me..”

“ I don't know anything. I will leave you two to talk, I will wait outside your office daddy.” Liam shut him up with that response and he nodded. He was obviously not going to force the truth out of the boy anymore.

“ Good boy. Wait right outside while me and your daddy have a little chat, okay?”

He shook his head to indicate he had heard whatever it was I said. My son was pissed, I could see it. But if only he could understand. He's just a kid. When they're all grown up, I will tell them why I did this.

“ So, what are you? Some sex worker who goes about sleeping with every strange person she comes across as long as he has a third leg?”

That was an insult to my person.

“ Fine. So what about you? Do you go about deflowering girls just because she insists on sex as a way to show gratitude?”

As I spoke, my eyes never left the door. It would be wild for Nathan to hear such nasty words. This was an adults-only conversation.

“ At least I don't have kids littered all over the place!! Six kids in seven years? All for different men. Don't you take a fucking break? The last one is what? Nine months or a year old?”

I swore I could have landed a few slaps on his face but I would be a bit more polite to him, only if he stops being a critic who knows nothing about how I have been surviving with his kids.

“ That's it. I'm out of here, can't stand you any longer. How do your workers even cope with you when you are such a bitter hypocrite? Stay out of our lives, we are doing just fine without you.”

With clenched fists, he was about to yell at me again, this time for me demanding that he stay out of Liam's life but his phone rang and it saved me from more rude outbursts.

My eyes reverted to the door. Never being more thankful to God that an office was sound proof! If Liam heard even a bit of what his father said..

“ Grandma? Where are you? Is something wrong?” His expression softened and a look of worry was visible in his hazel eyes. It was as if his world was about to end, paralyzed to the spot and holding his breath, waiting for her to drop the bomb.

“ You are at the hospital? What happened? Are you okay?? Is the driver with you?” so many questions left his supple lips. Now that I really had the time to size him up without being caught, I realized for the first time he was a gorgeous young man. We had been arguing and I barely had the time to take him in.

“ So, you are fine? What about the kids? What were they even doing by the roadside? You say you ran into them on your way here?”

Relief surged through his body and he calmed down. I could tell how much he loved his grandma. Seconds ago, he had being panicking. Never for once would I have thought a creature like him was capable of having humane feelings. Not after all that he said to my face.

“ They're responding to treatment? Alright, I'm on my way. Why would the parents be so callous and let their kids out of their sight? If they are not ready to keep an eye on their kids, then they should have made use of protection during intercourse!”

I rolled my eyes. He made it sound like parenting was that easy. Even I don't get to keep an eye on my kids 24/7. If I had a way of doing that, Liam wouldn't have been here.

He ended the call after asking his grandma to have the parents called. Whoever it was, he was definitely going to give them a three hours lecture on how to make use of a condom or contraceptive pills to avoid birthing kids they couldn't look after.

“ What happened?” I found myself asking. Not like I cared anyway. I was only curious to find out because I heard some kids had been involved in an accident. For a second, my chest tightened and I fervently prayed my kids were safe at home.

“ Two kids, of no less than seven got hit. Thankfully, there are no bruises. We will have this conversation some other time. I have to go see them. My grandma seems to have taken a liking in the children.”

I nodded and our eyes locked. His hand slightly brushed mine and the hairs on my skin stood up. I never for once imagined a touch could have so much impact on me.

Quite a perfect moment. No words were exchanged but our eyes said a lot. Only for a brief moment, as my phone rang and I quickly answered. I was supposed to have delivered a package about thirty minutes ago.

“ Hi, am I on the phone with Ms. Madelyn?”

What happened? Suddenly, I was feeling sick. Something was wrong, I could feel it.

“ Yes. I'm Madelyn. What's wrong?”

“Well ma'am, two of your kids were involved in an accident. They gave us your contact. Names are Valerie and Daniel. City hospital, ward..” she went on to give the ward number but by brain had stopped working the moment she mentioned my kids barely survived being hit.

That was enough to make me have a panic attack.

“ Ma'am? Are you still there?”

I saw Black's eyes ask a lot of questions. My knees were weak from carrying all of my weight.

“ On my way!” I managed to say before dashing out of the office without a proper goodbye. He called out several times but I grabbed Liam's hand and we took the elevator. My kids were my life, every other thing could wait. I just wanted to see my babies.
