The door bangs open before I can say anything else. Knox rushes in, hair a mess, face lit up like the sun.

"Is she here? Is the baby here?"

"Yes!" Kei grins.

Knox stops when he sees her. Just stops dead. His eyes go wide and then — his chin wobbles. Tears fill his eyes.

"I told you!" he shouts.

I laugh, and my chest feels so full it might actually burst. "Yes, you did, baby. Yes, you did."

He creeps closer, all slow and careful now. "Can I hold her?"

"Soon," I whisper.

The door bangs open before I can say anything else. Knox rushes in, hair a mess, face lit up like the sun."Is she here? Is the baby here?""Yes!" Kei grins.Knox stops when he sees her. Just stops dead. His eyes go wide and then — his chin wobbles. Tears fill his eyes."I told you!" he shouts.I laugh, and my chest feels so full it might actually burst. "Yes, you did, baby. Yes, you did."He creeps closer, all slow and careful now. "Can I hold her?""Soon," I whisper. He smiles, big, gap-toothed, perfect. "I'll protect her."Kei looks at him, serious and proud. "You better.""I will," Knox says, like it's a vow.And in that moment I look at them — my son trying so hard to be good, my daughter so tiny with her hand wrapped around my finger, and Kei looking at me like I'm the whole world. For years I thought being King meant I had to prove them all wrong. That I had to be harder, colder. More like a man.I was wrong.I never needed to become a man to rule. I never needed to stop being

I pull back, holding his face between my hands, forcing him to look at me. "Being a man doesn't make you better than a woman. Being King doesn't make you better than anyone. If you ever become King, your job will be to protect your people, not own them."Knox nods, his eyes wide and fixed on mine."And girls can say no?""Always.""And I have to listen?""Always."He nods again slowly like he has finally processed my words. "Okay."I smile through my tears, the feeling foreign and wonderful on my face. "There's something else."He looks at me, a flicker of hope in his eyes."You're going to be a big brother."His eyes widen, his mouth falling open in a perfect 'O' of surprise. "Really?"Kei grins, the expression transforming his tired face. "Really.""Is it a girl?" Knox asks, his voice full of certainty.I laugh, the sound bubbling up, light and free. "We don't know yet.""I know." He nods, so sure of himself."You don't know anything," I tease gently."It's a girl."Kei chuckles, a

"Cancel every appointment for the rest of the day."The thought rips out of me through the bond. It scrapes my throat raw even though I never open my mouth. My head still spins, the library scene playing on a loop behind my eyes. Knox's face, pale and uncertain. His voice, so small when he said, "I don't know."Three words. That's all it took to shatter everything I thought I'd built.I taught him better. Didn't I?So how? How did my son's mind become a playground for my father's poison?Through our bond, I feel Kei's concern before he even speaks, a warm pulse against the cold chaos in my mind."I already did." His voice is gentle, but I hear the steel beneath it. "I also made sure Knox was taken to his room. He fell asleep a little while ago."My heart sinks like a stone in deep water. "After everything?""He cried himself to sleep."My fingers press against my temples, trying to physically push the pain away. It doesn't work."Kei...""I know." His voice is quiet. "He's hurting, Ra

  • The Alpha King is a Woman    Mercy Ends Here

Through our bond, I feel it — Kei's fury is a white-hot, violent thing. It's the instinctive urge to snap my father in half where he stands. But he doesn't move or rise to the bait.Lucian takes advantage of his silence, his voice dripping with scorn. "Look at him. He follows you around like a puppy. He lets you rule. He bows to you in front of everyone. He is less of a man because he allowed a woman to stand above him.""Do not speak to my mate that way." I growl, my anger rising. It takes everything in me not to call down lightning and have the ground open up to swallow my father whole. But that kind of death would be too merciful and predictable.Lucian looks directly at me, his eyes burning. "Your mate is a disgrace to men everywhere. A living testament to your sickness."Kei's voice is low, but it carries more power than Lucian's shout ever could. "And yet," he says, his eyes meeting mine for a moment before turning back to my father, "I am still standing beside my King. I am not

  • The Alpha King is a Woman    The King He Wanted to Create

My eyes burn. I swipe at a tear, but another slips right behind it. Then I remember how Knox has been different lately. More impatient. More demanding. More aggressive. It started around the time he began spending more time in my mother's quarters. I never thought much of it — he loves his grandmother, and she spoils him rotten. I told myself it was just a phase. Now I know it's something else. Something much worse. Because spending time in my mother's quarters means spending time with my father.Lucian. Fuck.I'm about to step out from behind the pillar when another figure appears at the end of the corridor. My father. Lucian. He walks toward Knox, his steps unhurried. My heart drops into my stomach.Knox is still sobbing on the floor when Lucian reaches him. He doesn't kneel or offer comfort but he grabs Knox by the arm and yanks him to his feet."What are you crying for?"Knox sniffs, wiping his face with the back of his hand. "She pushed me."Lucian's gaze flicks toward Mira, who

  • The Alpha King is a Woman    A Lesson I Never Taught Him

Six years Later.Six years since Kei carried me into our bedroom and laid me on the bed, our bodies and souls finally bound as one. Six years since our lives finally became peaceful. And somehow, in that quiet, my son has grown into an eight-year-old who still believes the word 'no' is simply just a challenge."Knox. Give it back.""No.""Knox, I'm not asking.""I want it.""That isn't yours.""It is now."I press my thumb and forefinger to the bridge of my nose. A dull ache blooms behind my eyes—the same one I get every time he says something like that.Sometimes I wonder if we've spoiled him rotten. The answer is probably a resounding yes. Kei says it's my fault. I say it's his. And Knox blames both of us whenever we deny him a new toy or another sweet before dinner. The worst part is, I can't even distract myself with another baby because there hasn't been one.Not since Knox.At first, we didn't worry. We were young, newly bonded, and lost in each other. We spent the first year

I pull out the omega uniform from under my bed—plain brown cloth, shapeless, loose, ugly, and absolutely perfect for hiding the red dress beneath it. No one looks twice at omegas. Revulsion claws up my throat the moment I see him.Of all the men in this cursed kingdom, he is the one who walks like the world should kneel simply because he was born male.
