Chapter 1

Kyle stepped up beside me, all soothing tones and fake sympathy. "Don't blame me, Lilith. You shoved Sylvia into the pool last week in front of everyone. Made her lose face in front of the whole pack. So she just wanted a little payback—letting you draw the one wolf everyone's terrified of. That's all."

"She's young. Innocent. Don't give her a hard time anymore, alright?"

"Relax. It's just a small punishment. Doesn't count. You really think I'd be cruel enough to let you mate with someone that dangerous?"

The words hit me like a nail straight through my chest. My blood turned to ice.

Whispers swelled from every corner of the hall. A low, buzzing roar.

Kyle cleared his throat loudly, then raised his voice. "My sister's hand slipped just now. The draw doesn't count. We're doing it over."

He shot a quick, pointed glance toward Raymond.

Raymond Hale. My childhood friend. The pack's youngest Beta. My fated mate.

I looked up at him without thinking.

He was leaning against a pillar, his uniform cutting sharp across his shoulders, his features clean and cold beneath the brim of his cap. Handsome. Always had been.

But when our eyes met, something flickered through his—a chill I almost missed. Then he straightened up and spoke, loud enough for everyone to hear. "Our pack's always stood by fairness when it comes to arranged bonds. Since when do we get a do-over?"

"The Alpha heir going back on his word in front of the whole pack? That's a bad look."

My heart dropped. My fingers curled into my skirt until my knuckles went white.

Voices rose around me, feeding on his words:

"Beta Raymond's right! A draw's a draw—you can't just undo it!"

"The Alpha heir's always been a man of his word. Is he really breaking that today?"

Kyle's face went dark. He jabbed a finger at Raymond. "You—you grew up with Lilith. You told me once that the only one you'd ever bond with was her. How can you say something like that now?"

Laughter rippled through the crowd.

"Come on, it's obvious. Raymond's got his eye on someone else."

"Saw him at the market with Sylvia Worth yesterday. Bags and bags of stuff—looked like he was trying to buy out every stall in the place."

"Heard they're fated mates, but honestly? Looks like he's way more into Sylvia."

So that's how it was.

I let my lashes drop, blinked the sting away, and took a long, slow breath. Then I stepped forward.

I took the mic. My voice wasn't loud, but it cut clean through every corner of the hall. "Who said the draw doesn't count?"

"If that name came out, then it's fate. I'll take this bond. I accept it."

Kyle spun toward me, his voice cracking with alarm. "Lilith, have you lost your mind?"

He dropped his voice, urgent and sharp. "You stay next to a monster like that—do you have any idea what he could do to you?"

I turned my head and looked at him, eyes rimmed red.

There was a time when he would've stood in front of me. Shielded me. Made sure nothing touched me.

Now? One word from Sylvia—a single, careless complaint about a pool—and he'd just thrown me straight into hell.

A cold smile tugged at my lips. "Isn't this what you wanted, Kyle?"

"Now I'm bonding with the Alpha King. Your precious Sylvia doesn't have to be scared anymore. You should be thrilled."

Kyle's brow furrowed. "You're still blaming Sylvia? You were the one in the wrong. What she did today was just—"

Raymond cut in, that smug, patronizing tone still clinging to his voice. "Lilith, don't throw yourself away just to spite me."

He took a half-step closer, softening his voice, avoiding my eyes. "We grew up together. I've always thought of you as a sister. You really think I'd let you end up with someone like him?"

I turned and gave him a smile so sharp it could cut glass. "A sister?"

Raymond's mouth opened. Nothing came out. Guilt flickered behind his eyes.

I held his gaze like a blade. "Raymond, if you'd just admit you changed your mind, I might actually respect you."

His face went pale. His lips parted, but no words came. He looked away.

I turned and walked out of the banquet hall without looking back. "The result of this draw will reach the Alpha King's ears."

Raymond let out a cold laugh, but his eyes stayed locked on my back. He muttered to Kyle, "She's just throwing a tantrum. No way she'd actually bond with that wolf."

I didn't say a word.

That night, word came from the Alpha King. Ten days. Then he'd send for me.

  • The Alpha King's Bride   Chapter 8

Two years later.News from the Worth pack traveled through layers of intermediaries before finally reaching the Alpha King's palace—my parents and my brother Kyle were begging for an audience. The letter said they'd spent an entire year searching for the palace entrance. They were kneeling at the mountain gate right now, covered in dust, saying they wanted to "take their daughter home."I sat by the warm window of my sitting room, one arm cradling my one-month-old pup, the other resting on the back of the white fox curled beside me. I read the letter twice, folded it, and set it on the corner of the table."Let them in."When the mountain gate opened, they came stumbling through. A year apart, and my mother had lost so much weight—strands of white had spread through her hair. My father's face had caved in, hollowed around the eyes. Kyle walked at the back, his boots caked in mud, his eyes bloodshot and raw.The moment they stepped into the sitting room, their gazes locked on me.I sat

The Alpha King beside me had fallen into a deep sleep. The crowd dispersed, leaving only me behind—at Ezra's insistence. In the days that followed, I stayed by his side, healing him. His illness was hereditary, something no one had ever been able to cure. Until me.I started noticing that when he wasn't in the grip of an episode, his features would soften, just slightly, around the edges. I found myself wondering—what kind of man was he, really?Over the next while, I essentially moved into Ezra's chambers. His episodes came without warning. Sometimes I'd be reading, and he'd suddenly curl up, his nails digging into the edge of his desk and splitting the wood. I'd put down my book, cross to him, and press my palm against his back. That warm current would surge out, and I'd feel his shoulders loosen, inch by inch.He never said thank you.But after that day, a small oil lamp appeared beside my bed—one that never went out through the night.A few days later, I started noticing the little

The Alpha King's palace was colder than I'd expected. My clothes, half-dried from the ride, clung to my skin and made me start shivering again. The closer we got to the palace, the more guards lined the path. They stood motionless, spears in hand, like statues—but their eyes, cold and sharp, followed my car the entire way. Watching me like I was already prey."Sorry," the Beta wolf driving said. "The Alpha King gave them orders not to touch you. But you're not from our pack. Pushing out outsiders—it's instinct."I nodded and sank deeper into my seat. The Beta led me to a lavish room, told me it was mine, and left. The room surprised me—warm, comfortable, nothing like the cold outside. I took a shower and fell into a deep sleep.I woke to chaos in the hallway. Servants were rushing back and forth, panic on every face."Is His Highness having an episode again?""Terrifying. Rita got knocked out cold. He tore the skin off her arm. Blood everywhere. But no one dares go near him to heal him

The banquet was still in full swing when a frantic shout cut through the laughter: "Something's wrong! Alpha Thorne's grandson fell into the artificial lake!"The entire hall went dead silent. Alpha Thorne was a visiting Alpha from a neighboring pack—Lilith's father's equal, and a key ally the Worth family had been courting for months. Everyone rushed toward the hotel's back garden.Lilith passed through the archway and saw a crowd already gathered by the lake.Up close, there stood Sylvia in a brand-new gown—the birthday girl herself—with Kyle beside her. Both of them had their arms pinned behind their backs by two soldiers."What's going on here?" Lilith's father demanded, alarm flashing in his eyes as he looked at his children.A soldier stepped forward and reported: "Alpha, at the time of the incident, only these two were present on the west side of the garden. We restrained them immediately upon arrival."Before he'd even finished, a nanny burst through the crowd, sobbing, and poi

Ten days later, it was Sylvia's birthday. It was also the day Alpha King Ezra had set.At the birthday banquet my parents threw for Sylvia, I sat alone in the corner, waiting.I didn't expect Sylvia—who'd been surrounded by admirers just moments ago—to suddenly walk up to me."Big sister, you're not actually going to the Alpha King's pack to bond with him, are you?"When I didn't answer, she leaned in close to my ear. "I don't think you have the guts, honestly. All this fuss you're making—it's just to get your family's attention, isn't it? But as long as I'm here, Mom, Dad, and Kyle don't care about you at all. Don't believe me? Watch."Before I could react, she let out a sharp scream. A huge splash erupted from the artificial lake.Heads turned. Raymond and Kyle both dove in at the same time, hauling Sylvia back up.I watched coldly. Sylvia wasn't even trying anymore. Same old act, same old script.Shivering in Raymond's arms, Sylvia's voice came out weak and trembling, tears glisteni

  • The Alpha King's Bride   Chapter 3

By the time I got home, dinner was already on the table.Raymond was there too. Sitting right next to Sylvia. The moment they spotted me, the laughter died. Every smile froze mid-air. The dining room that had been buzzing just seconds ago went dead quiet.Kyle was the first to recover. He waved me over. "Lilith, come eat.""Not hungry. Going upstairs." I turned to leave."Lilith," my mother called out, getting up and walking toward me. "There's something we need to talk about."I stopped. "What?"She came up to me, hesitated, then said, "Your father and I have discussed it. We've decided to finalize the bonding arrangement between your sister and Raymond."I looked up at Raymond. He looked away.A faint smirk crossed my lips.My mother took my hand. "I know you and Raymond grew up together, sweetheart. But feelings aren't about who came first—it's about who's right for each other. I promise I'll make it up to you later..."I gently pulled my hand back and cut her off. "I don't have a p
