Chapter 3

Author: Goya
By the time I got home, dinner was already on the table.

Raymond was there too. Sitting right next to Sylvia.

The moment they spotted me, the laughter died. Every smile froze mid-air. The dining room that had been buzzing just seconds ago went dead quiet.

Kyle was the first to recover. He waved me over. "Lilith, come eat."

"Not hungry. Going upstairs." I turned to leave.

"Lilith," my mother called out, getting up and walking toward me. "There's something we need to talk about."

I stopped. "What?"

She came up to me, hesitated, then said, "Your father and I have discussed it. We've decided to finalize the bonding arrangement between your sister and Raymond."

I looked up at Raymond. He looked away.

A faint smirk crossed my lips.

My mother took my hand. "I know you and Raymond grew up together, sweetheart. But feelings aren't about who came first—it's about who's right for each other. I promise I'll make it up to you later..."

I gently pulled my hand back and cut her off. "I don't have a problem with it."

"Congratulations to you both."

I didn't expect Raymond to come after me.

He grabbed my wrist, hard enough that I couldn't pull free.

"Raymond, what are you doing?" My voice went cold.

He dropped his head slightly, softening his tone. "I know you said all that just to spite me."

"You must be hurting right now. Bonding with someone like that—who knows what it'll do to you."

Hurting?

No. Not really.

Maybe a little hollow. That was all.

There was a time I thought everyone might abandon me for Sylvia—except Raymond.

When I first came home six months ago, Sylvia loved playing the victim. Framing me, crying, the whole act. And no matter how much I explained, no one believed me. Except Raymond.

He'd hold my wrist, gentle and steady. "Lilith, I believe you."

"I'll always be on your side."

And because Sylvia was so busy copying me and trying to take my place, he kept his distance from her. Stayed cold.

I thought he was the one I could count on. The one who'd sworn since we were kids that he'd only bond with me. The one who never stopped looking for me when I vanished for three years.

But in the end, he turned his back on me too. Pointed the blade right at my chest.

He'd screamed at me once:

"Lilith, no wonder your own parents love a stranger more than you! Who could stand being around someone this prickly?"

"I can't even say two words to Sylvia without you grilling me like I've done something wrong! You're paranoid and exhausting—it's insane!"

"Fine. You want the truth? Sylvia is softer, sweeter, and worth ten of you. I'm in love with her. Happy now?"

Back then, I was drowning and he was the only thing I could hold onto. Even with words like that, my first instinct wasn't anger. It was guilt. I wondered if I really was the problem.

It took me a long time to see the truth. Raymond talked like he hated Sylvia, but he never actually pushed her away. Never drew a real line. He let her cross every boundary, step by step, until I was the one who looked crazy for caring.

He was the one in the wrong. Not me.

Seeing me go quiet, Raymond assumed he'd hit the mark.

He softened his voice again, dripping with that condescending kindness. "Lilith, we grew up together. We had something real once. I don't want us to end up as strangers who can't even look at each other."

"Tell you what—I'll talk to your parents. After Sylvia and I bond, I'll have them bring you into the Worth house too. I'll treat you the same. No favorites. You have my word."

I looked up at him, barely believing what I was hearing.

How could anyone be this shameless?

Raymond must've taken my shock for excitement, because he straightened his cuff with a little smirk.

"But you have to promise me something first. After we bond, you can't keep picking fights with Sylvia over every little thing like you used to—"

I couldn't take another second. I shoved him off me, hard, and the anger I'd been holding back finally broke loose:

"Get lost!"

  • The Alpha King's Bride   Chapter 8

Two years later.News from the Worth pack traveled through layers of intermediaries before finally reaching the Alpha King's palace—my parents and my brother Kyle were begging for an audience. The letter said they'd spent an entire year searching for the palace entrance. They were kneeling at the mountain gate right now, covered in dust, saying they wanted to "take their daughter home."I sat by the warm window of my sitting room, one arm cradling my one-month-old pup, the other resting on the back of the white fox curled beside me. I read the letter twice, folded it, and set it on the corner of the table."Let them in."When the mountain gate opened, they came stumbling through. A year apart, and my mother had lost so much weight—strands of white had spread through her hair. My father's face had caved in, hollowed around the eyes. Kyle walked at the back, his boots caked in mud, his eyes bloodshot and raw.The moment they stepped into the sitting room, their gazes locked on me.I sat

The Alpha King beside me had fallen into a deep sleep. The crowd dispersed, leaving only me behind—at Ezra's insistence. In the days that followed, I stayed by his side, healing him. His illness was hereditary, something no one had ever been able to cure. Until me.I started noticing that when he wasn't in the grip of an episode, his features would soften, just slightly, around the edges. I found myself wondering—what kind of man was he, really?Over the next while, I essentially moved into Ezra's chambers. His episodes came without warning. Sometimes I'd be reading, and he'd suddenly curl up, his nails digging into the edge of his desk and splitting the wood. I'd put down my book, cross to him, and press my palm against his back. That warm current would surge out, and I'd feel his shoulders loosen, inch by inch.He never said thank you.But after that day, a small oil lamp appeared beside my bed—one that never went out through the night.A few days later, I started noticing the little

The Alpha King's palace was colder than I'd expected. My clothes, half-dried from the ride, clung to my skin and made me start shivering again. The closer we got to the palace, the more guards lined the path. They stood motionless, spears in hand, like statues—but their eyes, cold and sharp, followed my car the entire way. Watching me like I was already prey."Sorry," the Beta wolf driving said. "The Alpha King gave them orders not to touch you. But you're not from our pack. Pushing out outsiders—it's instinct."I nodded and sank deeper into my seat. The Beta led me to a lavish room, told me it was mine, and left. The room surprised me—warm, comfortable, nothing like the cold outside. I took a shower and fell into a deep sleep.I woke to chaos in the hallway. Servants were rushing back and forth, panic on every face."Is His Highness having an episode again?""Terrifying. Rita got knocked out cold. He tore the skin off her arm. Blood everywhere. But no one dares go near him to heal him

The banquet was still in full swing when a frantic shout cut through the laughter: "Something's wrong! Alpha Thorne's grandson fell into the artificial lake!"The entire hall went dead silent. Alpha Thorne was a visiting Alpha from a neighboring pack—Lilith's father's equal, and a key ally the Worth family had been courting for months. Everyone rushed toward the hotel's back garden.Lilith passed through the archway and saw a crowd already gathered by the lake.Up close, there stood Sylvia in a brand-new gown—the birthday girl herself—with Kyle beside her. Both of them had their arms pinned behind their backs by two soldiers."What's going on here?" Lilith's father demanded, alarm flashing in his eyes as he looked at his children.A soldier stepped forward and reported: "Alpha, at the time of the incident, only these two were present on the west side of the garden. We restrained them immediately upon arrival."Before he'd even finished, a nanny burst through the crowd, sobbing, and poi

Ten days later, it was Sylvia's birthday. It was also the day Alpha King Ezra had set.At the birthday banquet my parents threw for Sylvia, I sat alone in the corner, waiting.I didn't expect Sylvia—who'd been surrounded by admirers just moments ago—to suddenly walk up to me."Big sister, you're not actually going to the Alpha King's pack to bond with him, are you?"When I didn't answer, she leaned in close to my ear. "I don't think you have the guts, honestly. All this fuss you're making—it's just to get your family's attention, isn't it? But as long as I'm here, Mom, Dad, and Kyle don't care about you at all. Don't believe me? Watch."Before I could react, she let out a sharp scream. A huge splash erupted from the artificial lake.Heads turned. Raymond and Kyle both dove in at the same time, hauling Sylvia back up.I watched coldly. Sylvia wasn't even trying anymore. Same old act, same old script.Shivering in Raymond's arms, Sylvia's voice came out weak and trembling, tears glisteni
