The car was waiting out front, humming softly like it had been impatient long before we even showed up. I didn’t glance at Raven as we walked down the front steps, though I could hear her boots crunching the gravel beside me, determined and annoyingly close. Matteo stood near the driver’s side, looking between us like he wasn’t sure if he should be worried or entertained.

"I’ll drive," he said quickly, sensing the tension.

"Good," I muttered.

Raven didn’t speak. I turned to her, gesturing toward the passenger door. "Get in."

She raised a brow. "Oh, how thoughtful of you, Your Majesty."

I said nothing, just narrowed my eyes.

She took a step toward the car, and just as I reached for the handle of the back door, she shoved me—shoved me—aside like I was a random obstacle in her way and slid into the passenger seat with all the smug satisfaction of someone who just won a petty war.

"Thank you," she said sweetly, batting her lashes at me like I was her damn chauffeur.

The second Matteo’s words echoed in my head, I was already on my feet. I didn't even process Raven's startled gasp as I shoved myself off the bed, my bare feet hitting the cold floor with urgency. My heart hammered in my chest like a war drum as I strode across the room, every nerve on high alert. Behind me, I heard her scramble after me. "Xander! Wait! What did he say?" Raven called. "Stay here," I ordered without looking back. "Like hell I will," she snapped, her footsteps fast behind me. I threw the doors open and stormed down the hallway. I didn’t care if my people saw me shirtless or if Raven was right on my heels. Matteo’s voice had held something in it—a kind of sharp, rare urgency that made my blood run cold. Laura Roman. The name repeated in my mind like a haunting whisper. We descended the stairs, her breath brushing just behind me as she kept pace. I should have stopped her, forced her to go back, but my mind was already spiraling. What if this was it? What if thi

I felt like I was flying on clouds. Something soft was pressed to me and there was this feeling like feathers on my face and it felt oddly comforting.I groaned, moving closer but then I stopped when I heard a light groan and my eyes immediately snapped open.Fuck. I got on the bed even after I told myself I wasn't going to come near her. Yet, here I was with her in my arms.Raven was still asleep and when I tried to pull away from her her hands only tightened. My jaw ticked as I brought my hand to her hand around me and tried to pull away but then her eyes finally opened. For a moment we just stare at each other without saying anything. Her eyes were looking at me like there was something she was searching for.I tried pulling away again but she didn't let me as her face broke into a smile as she looked at me.“Good morning, mate," she whispered, her voice soft and still filled with sleep.“I told you you weren't permitted to sleep in my room,” I said and her response was to roll her

The doors clicked shut behind me with a soft finality as I stepped into my chambers. The silence wrapped around me like a suffocating blanket, thick with the weight of the choices I’d made and the emotions I refused to name. I exhaled slowly, loosening the top button of my shirt as I walked further in. The moonlight filtered in through the tall windows, casting long shadows across the floor. The fire in the hearth had died down to glowing embers, but it was enough to chase the chill from the room. And then I saw her. Raven. Curled up on the edge of the bed like a soft, sleeping flame. My breath caught. For a moment, I just stood there, unmoving. Watching. Her black hair cascaded over her face, a silken curtain that rose and fell with every quiet breath she took. She looked so peaceful. So untouched by the storm raging inside me. My heart slammed against my ribcage with a violence I couldn’t explain. I placed a hand on my chest, pressing down as if I could force the traitorous r

The scent of lemon polish lingered in the air. It had been hours since I’d ordered the staff to begin their task, and they still moved like terrified ants around the house, scrubbing, fluffing, and perfecting every inch of my home. My home. Our home. The bedroom had been stripped and redone twice already. The sheets, now black silk, were smooth and cool to the touch. The curtains were replaced with something softer, something darker—velvet, maybe. I didn’t care. I just wanted everything to be perfect. No… immaculate. Not a single flaw. Because I was bringing her here. My queen. Raven. My lips curled into a dark grin at the thought. I stalked the perimeter of the bedroom, running my fingers along the polished furniture. "More candles," I barked to one of the maids standing near the door. She jumped and scurried away. Good. Fear made them move faster. I stood in the center of the room, inhaling deeply. I could already imagine her scent mixing with mine in this space. Her voice

For a moment I didn't speak as her words fully registered in my head. And then I laughed. I threw my head back and laughed darkly before I stopped as my cold eyes stared straight into her eyes. “Get out of my office Adriana," I said calmly, too calm. The type of calm before the storm. "I need you to explain to…" “Get out! Get the fuck out of my office!" I snapped and she shook in fear, not expecting me to raise my voice at her. “Don't test my patience Adriana, fuck off!" She didn't need to be told twice she turned away from me with hurt and stormed out of my office. Love? The thought of it was hilarious. I could barely stand that woman and suddenly Adriana thinks I might have fallen in love with Raven just because she didn't have a chance with me anymore. I laughed again. A dark hollow sound. Falling in love with Raven is like breaking a vow I made to myself. Love? No. I can never fall in love with her. I will never fall in love with her. Never. ***** “Wake up Raven, it'

“What do you mean?" I asked as I quickly collected the book from him and flipped through it.“I've searched through it and there's no such name as Laura Roman," I paused as my eyes met his and my brows furrowed in confusion.“What the fuck is happening?" I whispered as I ran my fingers through my hair, my eyes not leaving the books on my table. Both of them looked exactly the same but some things that were in the one Raven found weren't in the one that had been with me all along."Do you…do think someone messed with it?" Matteo asked, I couldn't answer but I was as confused as he was. What lies have I been told? I didn't know what was true or not anymore. What if I've been made to believe what was a complete lie?“Even if someone did mess with it, who could it be?" I asked as my eyes finally lifted off the books to meet his.“And why?...Why would anyone want to mess with The Book of Alphas?" "Perhaps there's a secret someone was trying to hide, a name someone wanted to desperately w

For a long moment Xander didn't speak like he was trying to take in what I just told him. His eyes studied me as he furrowed his brows in confusion.“What Book of Alphas?" He asked and I turned, my eyes landing on the book resting on the shelf I kept it.“The Book of Alphas containing history and stuff of Alphas and their packs," I said and Xander shook his head, making me confused.“There's only one Book of Alphas and it's in my office," I stilled as my eyes slowly went to the book and then back to Xander.I didn't bother explaining further, I quickly rushed to the shelf and pulled out the book as I handed it to Xander.“This is the Book of Alphas I found here.” I said and Xander just continued to stare at the book in his hand like he was in a trance. He didn't open it and I stood there looking at him wondering what was going on.“Xander, what is it?" I asked in curiosity. He turned away from me like he wanted to walk away but my hand quickly shot out and stopped him.“No! I need ans

Her name. Why would her name be in The Book of Alphas? My eyes went to the book on the floor as my heart pounded violently in my chest. Something just wasn't adding up. Nothing made sense to me and I felt an overwhelming sense of confusion. Laura Roman. My mother's name. My mother's name was in The Book of Alphas. How? She was an omega from what I remember. Then how come her name is in one of the most powerful political books in this kingdom. Could this be another Laura? Maybe I was mixing things up. But— It was rare for a woman's name to be mentioned as an Alpha. Then how come my mother's name is mentioned in this book? Could this be a coincidence and this was another female? No. I shook my head. This is too much of a coincidence. Same name. With everything that has happened, I'm sure the Laura in this book belongs to my mother. The twist of fate was enough proof. But why would my mother be ranked an omega but her name appeared in The Book of Alphas. My head was beginning
