There was a pin drop silence. Anastasia stared at her ‘parents’ in shock suddenly everything made complete sense. The way they never showed her love and treated her like a commodity instead of a person. Memories floated in her head.
“Mum can you play with me? I have no one to play with.” Five years old Anastasia said to her mother who was sitting on the couch watching the television.
Her mother turned to her in annoyance. Anastasia innocently held out one of her dolls to her with a cute smile. Her mother stared at the hand for a while before turning to the television again.
“Have you done all your homework?” she asked
Anastasia nodded.
“Redo them again then.” She replied while changing the channel to another documentary. Anastasia sadly put down her hand, it was already starting to hurt and walked way.
A hand touched her causing her to flinch violently. It snapped her back to reality. Anastasia realised that she had been silent for so long they thought she went into a shock.
“Well that’s believable.” She said angry her voice cracked a little. Her parents looked at her with guilt.
“So who forced you to take care of me, because you obvious didn’t chose to.” Anastasia said with a mocking tone.
“You are special.” Her mother said finally.
She scoffed.
Her father sighed.
“Why don’t we have a sit and we can explain what is going on.”
Anastasia walked ahead of them and sat on the nearest chair. Her parents sat too. More silence followed.
“I’m waiting...” she said. “Okay it started like this...”
A heavily pregnant woman sat on the rocking chair on her porch. She lived with her husband in the middle of the forest. Since they were werewolves they weren’t really scared of the animals in the forest. They knew not to approach them.
The woman rubbed her belly to soothe the baby that kept on kicking. She begun humming a lullaby. She laughed softly when the baby settled down.
“Don’t worry my sweet baby, you will soon be out and in mummy’s arms. Soon my dear soon.”
Some rustling in the bush got her attention. She didn’t sense danger so she didn’t call for her husband.
“Hello sister.” The person said.
The woman turned to face her sister who she hasn’t seen in several years.
“What do you want?”
“I wanted to see if my niece was born yet.” Her sister said.
“How do you know that’s it a girl. What if it’s a boy.” The woman replied in a bored tone.
“It needs to be a girl so you can fix what you destroyed.” Her sister bit back bitterly.
The woman sighed and ran her hands through her naturally silver white hair. “I didn’t destroy anything you fool.”
“You knew what you were yet you didn’t fulfill your duty to the pack.” Her sister growled in anger.
“I had no duty to the back. The pack does not deserve me.” The woman said quietly. “Stay away from here and never come back. If you think you can come to my home and threaten me I’ll end you.”
Her sister flinched and stepped back disappearing into the bushes. The pregnant woman sighed, her baby squirmed in her womb again.
Another rustling in the bushes caught her attention. Her mate was here.
“Honey, I just saw your sister leaving.” He said as he leaned down to give a peck on the lips, which turned into a fully blown kiss.
When they finally parted, the pregnant woman was out of breath. Her mate helped her up and led her into the house shutting the door.
A shadowy figure watched them from the shadows.
A group of people sat around a round table, the looked jittery and apprehensive. They were arguing about an issue talking down and over each other.
“Silence.” A voice boomed. It was their pack alpha.
“The pack is getting to a point of no return. The people are sick, our borders are breached and we will soon be overthrown by our rivals.” The pack alpha continued in a commanding voice.
“It’s all that selfish woman’s fault. She wanted to be with her fated mate rather than fulfill her duty to the pack.” A voice said.
“Maybe if you all treated her with a little dignity and respect she would have never ran away.” Someone snapped back.
The alpha grabbed him by this neck lifting him. His feet barely grazed the ground.
A snap echoed in the room. The body falls with a thud.
“Anyone else.” The alpha said as if he hadn’t just killed a pack member in front of everyone.
“Good. We will take her child after her birth and kill them. Both she and her mate.” He said with finality.
“Yes alpha.” They echoed.
The pregnant woman cursed the fact that she was from a sacred line of white wolves who were blessed by the moon goddess. Just the mere presence of them brought prosperity to any pack.
This made her to be continuously hunted by packs in an attempt to secure her for themselves. This is why she chose to live in the forest with her mate. Free from any trouble.
Another groan slipped from her lips, her time had come. She was ready to push. Her made ran quickly in search of towels and water.
“argghhhh.” She nearly screamed as she waited on her mate. He returned with the towels and set her on it.
“You can do it my love. Push.”
And she did. She pushed and grunted and pushed. Two hours of pushing later she held her beautiful baby girl in her arms.
“She’s so beautiful.” The woman whispered as the baby girl clutched her index finger.
“You are so brave and beautiful.” Her mate said in return kissing her sweaty forehead.
The rattling on their door startled them. No one knew they were here... except for one person. Her sister entered the room and people trickled in after her. Her face was stone cold and emotionless. They were surrounded by at least twenty people who were up against two defenseless people.
“Your father fought the pack alpha till death and your mother was killed. You were ripped out of your mother’s dying arms. By me.”
“That’s why you have a crescent marking on your shoulder. You inherited the blessing of the white wolf.”
Anastasia stared at her fake parents in complete shock. They were monsters. “So not only did you betray your sister, you also killed her.” She muttered.
“I didn’t kill her and she betrayed the pack first.”
“Your betrayal killed my mother!” Anastasia screamed.
So this was how they treated her mother. She wasn’t going to let it hap
pen to her.
Anastasia burst out of the door into the night. She knew what she had to do. She had to take the bull by the horns.
Anastasia stopped listening in the meeting almost thirty minutes ago. She daydreamed about how her life would have been if she was not chosen to be the next Luna by her pack. The mate to be mother was droning on and on about his likes and dislikes, how to behave in front of him and other people and other insignificant duties of a Luna.“You speak only when spoken to. You are never and will never be equal to your mate.” She said.Anastasia felt like someone was strangling her slowly. She felt like she was losing more and more control over her life.“Excuse me” she cut of the droning woman and cringed slightly when she looked at her like a bull looking at a red colour.“My mother just mind linked me to come home. There’s something important going on.” She lied. She just wanted to leave this boring meeting.Since her mate to be mother respected her parents she agreed reluctantly. Anastasia let out a breath she has been holding since she entered the room. She felt so suffocated.Putting
The music coming from the club was hurting Anastasia’s ears which was quite sensitive because she was a werewolf. Elizabeth didn’t seem to mind, it seemed like she came to the club a lot. They both wore really short and tight dresses that made their figure more pronounced. Anastasia doesn’t really own any clothes suitable for clubbing so Elizabeth borrowed her some. She was already feeling uncomfortable as she stood in the moving line to the club. Her face must have shown how uncomfortable she felt because Elizabeth frowned when she saw her face.“What’s wrong?” She askedAnastasia forced a smile, she didn’t want to ruin their first ‘fun’ outing together.“I’m okay actually, just really excited.” She lied. Her monotonous voice betrayed her.Elizabeth didn’t look convinced and wanted to interrogate her more but they were already at the front of the line. The big bouncer smirked at them while Elizabeth blew him a flirtatious kiss.A blast of different scents hit her as she entered the
Anastasia ran through the hordes of sweaty people in an attempt to get away from the man despite everything in her telling her to go back. She blamed it on her drunkenness, she couldn’t be fixated on a man she just met. It just was not normal. She was quite small so it was easy to squeeze through quickly. He goes after her unable to say anything but hindered completely by people blocking his path. Since he didn’t know her name he couldn’t call her out. He didn’t know why he was going after her. All he knew was that he was drawn to her and her scent.Anastasia was drunk and her head fogged up more when she was around that mysterious man. She really needed to get away from here before she lost all her sanity. When she finally makes it outside the club it’s like a breath of fresh air, literally. All the scents are gone, just the cool breeze remains. It managed to clear her fogged up brain a little. She tried to forget the gorgeous mysterious man that caused her world to stop. She wante
Tears flowed freely from Anastasia’s eyes; she couldn’t believe how she had not ran out. She didn’t know how she left the pack house noiselessly without screaming, she felt completely detached from her body. Her paws padded against the forest floors leaves crunching as she ran over them. Her wolf howled in distress and pain of loss. Anastasia knew she was troubling the forest but didn’t care, she howled louder. Her best friend who she trusted with her life was just sleeping with her mate to be. The betrayal was simply just too much. Elizabeth had been smiling at her, laughing with her, cooking for her and caring about her only for it to be fake. She let out another sorrowful howl, she had no physical wounds to lick. The internal wounds hurt much worse.Since they didn’t even notice her presence, they were embracing each other. She made up her mind. She would not go through the mating and be miserable and used for the rest of her life.Anastasia approached a stream and stared at her w
