ELENA'S POV

The grand strategy hall of the Obsidian Fortress was vast and cold. At the center sat a massive obsidian table etched with glowing silver lines that tracked the borders of the Western Territories.

Alpha King Nikolai stood at the head of the table. He had removed his heavy armor, wearing only a dark tunic that revealed silver tattoos twisting up his arms. He wasn't looking at the map. He was looking at me.

"You survived your first night without the silver-ash poison," Nikolai observed. "But look at your hands, Elena."

I looked down at my palms. They were trembling. Beneath my pale skin, the veins along my wrists were dark charcoal, pulsing erratically. Without the daily poison, my true power was expanding, but the Eclipse magic was fighting for dominance, filling the void left by Kaelen’s broken bond.

"It feels like winter rain and jagged glass," I muttered. "But I can handle it."

"It isn't the physical pain you need to worry about," Nikolai said. He walked slowly around the table until he stood right in front of me. He reached out, his cold fingers gently lifting my chin to force my silver eyes to meet his. "The Eclipse lineage demands absolute detachment. Every time you use it to hide your grief, you freeze a piece of your humanity. If you freeze completely, you won't be a queen, Elena. You will be a monster."

"A monster is what survived the Dead Woods," I replied, pulling my chin away from his grip. My voice was entirely flat. "A broken omega would have died in the mud. Tell me how we build this army."

Nikolai looked at me for a long moment, a flash of dark appreciation in his eyes. He turned back to the map, tapping a glowing silver line that marked the mountainous border of the neutral territory.

"The outcasts of the Shadow Lands are fragmented," Nikolai explained. "They are survivors, but they are paranoid. They will not fight just because I command it, or because you wear a historic ring. They need to see the vessel shift. They need to know the Eclipse wolf can actually hunt."

"I haven't shifted since my mother died," I admitted, tightening my fist. "The Bloodmoon doctors always told me my wolf was deformed and too weak to break through."

"Because they were actively crippling you," Nikolai hissed, his silver eyes flashing with anger. "Your wolf isn't weak. She is immense, and she has been locked in a cage for nineteen years. To break the lock, we must use a crucible."

He walked over to a weapon rack and pulled out a short, curved silver blade. The metal hummed with energy.

"Tonight, Kaelen Vance is hosting his first royal gala as the crowned King," Nikolai said softly, a dark smile on his lips. "He has invited the High Council to celebrate his alliance with Lady Tanya. They believe you are a rotting corpse, a minor detail cleaned up by the border guards."

The mention of Kaelen’s name didn't cause a single throb of pain in my chest. The void remained perfectly still and cold.

"Let him celebrate," I said, a dangerous smile tugging at the corner of my lips. "The longer he believes I am dead, the deeper he digs his own grave."

"Exactly," Nikolai murmured, stepping closer. He held out the silver blade toward me, handle first. "But to ensure he stays blind, we must secure the outer rogue factions before the winter solstice. The first faction is the Broken Fang pack, hiding in the northern rifts. Their leader knows the truth about the Purge. If he sees you shift—if he sees your true shadow form—he will bring three thousand battle-hardened warriors to your feet."

I reached out, my fingers wrapping around the hilt of the silver blade. The moment the metal met my skin, the charcoal veins along my arm flared. The ring pulsed with a heavy surge of dark energy.

"And if I fail to shift?" I asked, looking up at the towering Alpha King.

Nikolai’s silver eyes locked onto mine. His expression was unyielding. "Then the dark magic will consume your remaining life force, and the Broken Fang will tear your throat open for wasting their time. There is no middle ground here, little bird. You either rule the darkness, or you become part of the dirt."

I raised the blade, the silver edge catching the green light. Inside my mind, my awakening wolf let out a loud roar. It was a promise of absolute ruin.

"Take me to the rifts," I commanded.

  • The Alpha Who Rejected Me   CHAPTER 11: THE GHOST IN THE COURTYARD

ELENA’S POV The ruined courtyard of the High Council Citadel was older than the kingdoms themselves. It sat exposed to the elements, a hollow ring of shattered obsidian pillars wrapped in frozen ivy. The ground was paved with fractured black stone, and overhead, the silver moonlight cut through the mountain fog like a series of pale blades. It was a beautiful, dead place. It suited me perfectly. I stood in the center of the ruins, my long burgundy silk gown pooling around my leather boots. The heavy fur cloak Nikolai had given me hung loosely from my shoulders, keeping the biting mountain wind from my skin. Every few seconds, the silver signet ring on my right hand would pulse, sending a steady, icy current of Eclipse magic through my veins. It kept the exhaustion at bay. It kept the memories from turning into pain. Since I had stepped onto the southern borders, the void inside my chest had become my greatest armor. I felt no nervousness. I felt no fear. I was simply a predator

  • The Alpha Who Rejected Me   CHAPTER 10: THE PRICE OF AN HOUR

ELENA’S POV The private embassy of the Northern Shadow Coalition sat at the highest edge of the Citadel. It was cold, stone-carved, and completely isolated from the suffocating gold and marble of the southern packs. I stood by the arched window, watching the distant mountain peaks disappear into a heavy sheet of midnight fog. The silver signet ring on my finger pulsed with a slow, soothing rhythm. The void inside my chest remained locked and perfectly still, completely untroubled by my encounter with Tanya in the powder room. The heavy iron doors behind me groaned open. Nikolai walked inside, his long black fur cloak dripping with mountain rain. He didn't look tired. He looked lethal. His piercing silver eyes swept over me, checking for any sign of distress, before he closed the door and slid the iron bolt into place. "The High Council is in complete chaos," Nikolai said, a dark, low chuckle vibrating in his broad chest. "Tanya’s father is frantically calling for emergency votes.

  • The Alpha Who Rejected Me   CHAPTER 9: THE TASTE OF ASH

ELENA’S POV The Citadel’s private powder room was a quiet sanctuary of gold-leaf mirrors and running water. But the heavy scent of jasmine perfume could not mask the sudden drop in temperature the moment I walked inside. I stood before the marble basin, letting the cold water wash the faint traces of Kaelen’s spilled wine from my fingers. In the reflection of the glass, my silver eyes looked back at me—steady, unyielding, and entirely devoid of the fear that used to define my life. The heavy oak door behind me clicked shut. The lock turned with a sharp, deliberate snap. "You think you’ve won, don't you?" Lady Tanya stepped out from the shadows of the arched entryway. Her golden crown sat slightly crooked on her styled blonde hair, and her chest heaved with an ugly rage. She had shed her fake diplomatic smile, leaving only the cruel, spoiled girl who used to watch the pack guards kick me into the dirt. I didn't turn around. I simply tore a linen towel from the rack and drie

  • The Alpha Who Rejected Me   CHAPTER 8: THE PRICE OF SILENCE

ELENA’S POV The high council elders rushed forward, their heavy velvet robes sweeping against the marble floor. Weapons clattered as royal guards drew their silver-tipped blades, forming a frantic semicircle around us. But nobody dared to strike. One wrong move, and the shadow tendril around Kaelen’s throat would snap his neck like a dry twig. "Release him, rogue!" Elder Thaddeus bellowed, his voice shaking with age and indignation. He raised his golden staff of office, pointing it directly at my chest. "You are using illegal, forbidden magic in the sacred halls of the High Council! This is an act of war against the entire Western Territory!" "Let him go, Elena!" Tanya shrieked from the top of the dais. She made no move to help her husband, her eyes darting frantically to the guards. "You are a monster! A lawless abomination!" I didn't look at her. I didn't look at the elders. My silver eyes remained locked onto Kaelen's suffocating face. Kaelen’s hands were still clawing us

  • The Alpha Who Rejected Me   CHAPTER 7: RECKONING OF THE KINGS

ELENA’S POV The silence in the grand ballroom was suffocating. Hundreds of the world’s most powerful Alphas and Lunas stood completely frozen. Their expensive wine glasses hung mid-air. Their fake smiles were wiped clean away. Every eye was locked onto me. They weren't looking at the weak, disposable omega orphan they had mocked five years ago. They were looking at a living nightmare draped in the burgundy silk of dried blood. Kaelen stood at the bottom of the royal stairs, just ten feet away from me. His chest heaved. The pristine white tunic of his coronation suit was ruined, soaked through with the dark crimson wine he had dropped. His amber eyes were wide, bloodshot, and frantic. "Elena..." Kaelen choked out again. His voice was a trembling whisper that cut through the dead silence of the hall. "It really is you. You're alive." He took another blind step forward. His hand trembled as he reached out toward me, his fingers twitching as if he desperately needed to touch my

  • The Alpha Who Rejected Me   CHAPTER 6: THE SUMMIT OF GHOSTS

ELENA'S POV Five years can turn a kingdom to dust. But more importantly, five years can turn a broken girl into a god. The grand ballroom of the High Council Citadel was a sickening sea of gold chandeliers, white marble, and fake smiles. Hundreds of the world’s most powerful Alphas, Lunas, and heirs filled the room. They drank expensive wine and laughed loudly, completely wrapped up in their own arrogance. At the highest tier of the room sat the royal chairs of the Western Territory. There stood Kaelen Vance. He looked older. The youthful cockiness in his amber eyes was gone, replaced by a tense, hollow exhaustion. His ceremonial furs looked heavy on his shoulders, and his posture was stiff. He looked like an Alpha King whose kingdom was quietly bleeding to death. Beside him sat Lady Tanya, her golden crown sitting slightly crooked on her head, her face tight with a bitter scowl. Rumors traveled fast even to the frozen north—their wealthy political alliance had turned into
