Her First Day

The sun shone through the glass window, reflecting a new day and hope. The lady sleeping on the bed started to move. She slowly moved her arms up on her head when suddenly a heavy feeling on her right shoulders numbed her hand.

Rubbing her eyes, Hazel looked and was surprised to see a small child sleeping next to her. She almost forgot that today was the first day of her job as a Mama. She still couldn’t believe what had gotten into her to accept that job quickly.

“Is this how broke and hopeless people think?” She asked herself in her mind.

She flatten her body and let Theo enjoy her arms under the blanket. She never thought that the feeling of having kids next to you will make her problems disappear. Hazel suddenly remembered the days when she was at the orphanage. She thought that her life would evolve in that place until she turned 18 and was thrown away.

Even though she had no idea why they did that to her, she was lucky to experience things she never experienced inside that orphanage.

Looking at the white ceiling, everything in this room is blue. Even the curtains were blue. There are cute designs all over the wall. Toys and books everywhere. A small lampshade on the small table and some crayons.

She sleeps in Theo’s room.

How did she end up here? Well, after signing and reading the contract, she was tempted by that big sum of money that awaits her. Who would want to ignore and reject such responsibility? The only thing she would do is to let Theo think that she is his Mama. More like a nanny to the three years old boy.

Axel mentioned that Hazel is not the only one who applied or tried this job. There were already a lot of nanny before, but all of them failed to have a connection with his child. That’s why he was surprised too when Theo called Hazel Mama.

The conditions on the contract are also clear for her, so there are no risks taking this job. Besides from being broke, her landlord was about to kick her out too.

Hazel came back to her thoughts when the child sleeping next to her started to wiggle and move.

Theo slowly opened his eyes and his chubby cheeks lifted up upon seeing Hazel. He smiled and hugged the lady.

“Good morning, Mama.” He greeted with a small voice.

That greeting almost melted Hazel that she didn’t want to let go from Theo’s hug. She ruffled the boy’s hair and replied with a morning greeting too.

Their moment got interrupted when a knock was heard behind the door.

“Henry, Henry.” Theo said.

Hazel carried Theo and they both went to open the door.

A tall slender middle aged man with round glasses bowed his head. “Good morning, young master and Miss Hazel.” He said.

“I am Henry, the young master and your personal butler. I come here to wake you two up for breakfast. If you need anything, you can call me.”

Hazel nodded and smiled at the serious faced butler. “Thank you, Mister Henry. We will come down after I fix the bed.”

Henry shook his head. “No, no. You don’t need to do that. You are only focused on young master Theo. The maids of the mansion will do that. Please hurry, Master Axel is waiting for you at the dining table.” He said.

Hearing Axel’s name, Hazel flinched. She suddenly imagines the face of the alpha if they will not come down quickly.

After combing her hair and tying it up with a messy bun. They both went down. The maids greeted them and Theo held her hand as he dashed towards the dining room.

She was in agape because she wasn’t expecting that the table is long and fancy. The assistants in black suits standing next to the table all look at them.

“Good morning, Papa!” Theo greeted his father, giving him a hug. “Mama sleeps next to Theo.” He happily said.

Hazel froze there. She didn’t know what to do until she met Axel’s eyes. His eyebrows raised. “Why are you still standing there? Take a seat.” He said.

“Y-Yes,” She immediately pulled a chair, but another disappointed look was drawn onto the alpha’s face.

“Why are you so far from us?” Axel asked. “Sit next to me,” he ordered.

“Sorry,” Hazel moved closer to them and cleared her throat as she looked down. She felt embarrassed.

A maid walked towards her and asked her what she wanted to eat for her breakfast. Theo asked for milk and cereals while she only asked for bread. She was already shy enough to ask for something.

Axel took a sip from his morning coffee and noticed Hazel’s uncomfortable eyes. Was he too blunt?

He sighed. “Don’t be shy and tell the maids what you like. I don’t like an unhealthy mama for my son. One of my conditions is to give you whatever you like, so go on and don’t hold back.”

Hearing Axel talk in a low and gentle voice, Hazel finally looked at him.

“Thank you,” she said. “I’m not used to eating a lot in the morning,” she added.

Since she had a lot of jobs, she sometimes forgot to eat breakfast in the morning. Being a very busy student at day and worker at night made her forget that she needed enough food to survive everyday.

Thinking back of her old days, she still couldn't believe that she now have a home and a nice job where she is proud to say that she can support herself and her studies.

A smile unconsciously formed across her cheeks. She forgot how uncomfortable and shy she was earlier that she looked carefree now by suddenly smiling with whatever thought comes into her mind.

Meanwhile, after putting his phone down and checking his schedule for today, Axel checked her and caught her smiling.

They both looked at each other and looked away. Leaving Hazel embarrassed.
