“Thanks,” I muttered as Linda handed me a cup of coffee and a plate of toast and eggs. The kitchen buzzed with the low hum of conversations overlapping in the open space.

Linda was becoming a friend. I still kept my guard up—muscle memory after that devil, Genevieve’s betrayal—but with Linda, it was easier.

We were both unmarried. There was a kindness about her I couldn’t help but admire.

I blew on the steam rising from my mug, watching her rearrange the salt and pepper shakers for the third time.

“So… you and Hector?” she finally asked.

I blinked, thrown. “What about me and Hector?”

She took a slow bite of toast, chewing like she was buying time. “Are you two… seeing each other?”

Her voice was casual, but the way she wouldn’t meet my eyes gave her away. Like she was testing the current before stepping in.

“Why do you ask?”

“Just curious,” she said too fast. Her gaze flicked toward the dining hall entrance and then back down to her plate.

I studied her. The pieces clicked int

MarissaJustine was about to drop me off when the sound of footsteps on the stairs made both of us look up.Justin emerged, shirtless, in nothing but a pair of khaki shorts that hung low on his hips, and I swear—my soul flatlined. His lean muscles flexed with each step like he was handcrafted in a lab and then cursed with that careless kind of beauty that didn’t even try. He glanced up and caught me staring, and I had to blink and look away before I publicly embarrassed myself.Justine squinted at him. “Shouldn’t you be... lying down or something? I thought you were half-dead earlier.”“I’m fine now,” he said, with a casual shrug. He pulled a white T-shirt over his head, the fabric clinging briefly to the ridges of his abdomen before falling into place. “Let me drop her off. I need to pick something up anyway. It’s on the way.”Justine looked between the two of us, clearly confused—and maybe a little annoyed. “It’s fine. I'll drop her off.”“I’ll take her,” he said simply, jingling h

Marissa"Don't stop."Justin's voice was a strained plea. His hands found my head, not to force, but to guide my movements. I relaxed my throat and took more of him into my mouth. I moaned around his cock, and the vibration seemed to send him over the edge. His hips thrust upward, his cock jerking in my mouth. I knew he was about to come."You feel so good," he panted, pounding his hips into my mouth. I grew wetter with each powerful thrust, my own orgasm building to an unbearable pitch without a single touch. He thrust faster, his movements frantic. With a strangled cry, his release came in hot, powerful pulses. I continued to stroke him with my hands until he was completely spent and his orgasm subsided. His breath was ragged as he pulled me up onto the bed. His mouth crashed into mine, deep and demanding. His tongue invaded my mouth and made me wetter. I loved that he didn’t shy away. I loved that he wanted it all.His hips rocked slowly, not quite thrusting—just letting me feel th

Justin's body burned like he'd walked through a fever. I felt it through the thin cotton of my shirt, straight into my skin, and it scared me.I pressed into him, leaning my arms tight around his back, fingers gripping the warm fabric of his shirt. Our scent, tangled with something dry and chemical, almost like crushed chalk or hospital powder, filled my nose. It should’ve turned me off. It didn’t. It made me want to sink deeper into him, to strip off the layers and see where the heat ended. He was sick. I could see it. The slowness in his limbs and the way his breath hitched. But he was still beautiful.Still mine.My fingers moved over his spine, slow at first, then pressing into muscle as I rubbed his back. He shuddered. His breath spilled hot against my neck, right into the place that always made me cave. My thighs tightened without permission.“Are you going to be okay?” I asked into the space between his collar and my lips. His eyes cracked open for a second, dark and wet with

JustinMarissa’s fork moved with slow grace. I watched her take a bite of the vanilla cake, and something low and unsettling stirred in my chest. A hunger I didn’t know how to name.I couldn’t look away. She ate like she felt everything. Deliberately sensual. Her lips closed over the tines of the fork, throat working softly as she swallowed. It shouldn't have meant anything, but it did. It made my restraint fray. The urge to close the space between us, to take that soft lower lip between my teeth, nearly yanked me out of my chair.I swallowed. My throat was bone-dry. I shoved the thought away, forced it down into the place I’d been stuffing things lately. It didn’t belong here.Where the hell was this even coming from? It wasn’t just wanting a kiss. It wasn’t just sex. Something was unraveling inside me.She set the fork down on the napkin. Her eyes lifted and met mine. That’s when it hit me, deep in the chest. The need to kiss her again, to taste that cake on her tongue, and everythi

MarissaThe kiss did nothing to fill the void in my chest. I leaned my head against the pillow, staring up at the ceiling.Something was wrong with Justin. The thought burrowed in and refused to leave. If he truly couldn’t feel the bond, what the hell was I supposed to do?What kind of future existed in a one-sided connection? It would be like standing next to a fire and feeling no warmth.I shook my head. No. I couldn’t believe a mate bond could be a mistake. The universe wasn’t that cruel. He knew. He had to. He was just... choosing not to deal with it—maybe because of politics, maybe because of Wendy.Still, my stomach fluttered with restless anticipation. I shouldn’t look forward to seeing the man who made my pulse spike with a glance, only to ignore me the next second. But I did.The bond would always pull me back to him. No matter how hard I swam against it, I’d still find myself pointed in his direction.Monday morning, I stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the
