Chapter 6: Sent Away

Camila’s POV

I was still kneeling in the laundry room when I heard voices from the sitting room.

Deep. Serious. The Alpha’s voice.

I froze.

Even if I was just a maid here, I still respected him. Everyone did. His voice carried authority without shouting.

I slowly stood up, wiping my wet hands on my apron. I did not want to look curious. I did not want Clara to accuse me of listening.

But then I heard her voice.

“Dad, can’t you just send a maid?”

Her tone was sharp. Annoyed. Spoilt.

My fingers tightened around the basket.

Send a maid.

That meant me.

The Alpha replied calmly, but firmly.

“This is not what a maid can do.”

For a moment, I felt relieved.

But Clara was not done.

“Fine. Then a maid should follow me. I can’t walk alone.”

My stomach dropped.

I knew what was coming.

There was a short silence.

Then the Alpha said,

“Let Camila follow you. You can show her the way.”

My heart stopped.

Me.

I swallowed hard.

Of course. It would be me.

Why did it always have to be me?

I did not want to go anywhere with Clara. Not today. Not when my heart was already aching.

Théo was still inside with Aurelia.

I had not seen him come out.

I had not heard his voice again.

My chest tightened painfully.

Was he smiling at her right now?

Was he laughing?

Was he sitting close to her?

My wolf stirred weakly inside me, and a sharp pain went through my chest.

I hated that I was thinking like this.

I hated that I cared so much.

But I could not stop.

Footsteps approached.

Clara appeared at the laundry room door, her arms crossed.

“Get up,” she said coldly. “You’re coming with me.”

I lowered my head immediately.

“Yes.”

I did not argue. I could not argue.

I followed her quietly through the hallway. The house suddenly felt bigger. Colder.

As we passed the sitting room, I tried not to look toward the door where Théo and Aurelia had gone.

But I failed.

Just for one second, my eyes lifted.

The door was still closed.

My heart squeezed.

He must be enjoying his time with her.

Of course he would.

She was beautiful. Confident. Strong.

Not small. Not weak. Not a useless Omega like me.

I quickly looked down again before Clara noticed.

We stepped outside the main building.

The air was cooler here.

Clara walked ahead of me without slowing down. Her back straight. Her steps confident.

I had to almost jog to keep up.

“Why are you walking so slow?” she snapped without turning around.

“I’m sorry.”

She clicked her tongue.

“Honestly, I don’t understand my brother sometimes.”

My ears burned.

“He lets people like you stay here. It’s strange.”

People like you.

I knew what she meant.

Weak. Small. Replaceable.

I kept walking.

We were heading toward the far storage building, near the edge of the pack land. It was quieter here. Fewer guards. Fewer people.

I did not like it.

The trees around us felt darker than usual.

My wolf shifted nervously.

Clara kept talking.

“You should not get too comfortable,” she said. “Aurelia belongs in this house. Not you.”

I stayed silent.

But inside my head, my thoughts were screaming.

Maybe she is right.

Maybe he will choose her.

Maybe this contract means nothing.

Maybe I am just temporary.

My chest hurt so much that it felt hard to breathe.

I imagined Théo inside that room with Aurelia.

Was he standing close to her?

Was she touching his arm?

Was he looking at her the way he looked at me when we signed the contract?

Stop.

I bit my lip.

I had no right to think like that.

I was just a maid in front of everyone.

Just a contract mate in private.

Nothing more.

We were almost at the storage house now.

Clara slowed down slightly.

“Go open it,” she ordered.

I stepped forward.

The place felt too quiet.

Too still.

Even the birds were not making noise.

My wolf suddenly stiffened.

Not in jealousy.

Not in sadness.

In fear.

A cold feeling crawled up my spine.

Something was wrong.

I hesitated.

“Why are you standing there?” Clara snapped.

Just as I reached for the door—

A loud crash came from behind us.

I gasped and turned around.

Men.

Three of them.

Rough. Dirty. Not from our pack.

Rogues.

My blood ran cold.

Clara’s confident posture disappeared immediately.

“W-What are you doing here?” she demanded, but her voice shook.

The men laughed.

A dark, ugly sound.

“Well,” one of them said, looking at Clara slowly. “Look what we found.”

My heart pounded so hard I thought it would burst.

There were no guards nearby.

No one close enough to hear us quickly.

My wolf trembled violently inside me.

I was weak.

I was small.

I could not fight rogues.

Clara took a step back.

I instinctively moved in front of her.

I don’t know why.

Maybe because she was the Alpha’s daughter.

Maybe because if anything happened to her, Théo—

Théo.

My chest tightened again.

Would he even know where I was?

Would he come?

The rogues stepped closer.

“You two look lost,” another one said, smirking.

My hands started shaking.

I could feel my wolf trying to come forward.

Not strong.

Not powerful.

But desperate.

Clara grabbed my arm suddenly.

“Do something!” she whispered harshly.

Do something?

I was just a maid.

Just an Omega.

But they were getting closer.
