The four of us stood side by side while Alpha Ronan watched us from behind the massive carved desk at the center of the room.

Its surface was covered with things that clearly hadn't seen daylight in generations—yellowed scrolls thick with dust, heavy books with flaking leather covers, and brittle texts written in ancient runes from languages that had almost disappeared entirely.

Despite the dull ache in my left palm, I stepped closer. My eyes moved over the disturbing symbols covering the scrolls as the silence in the room seemed to fold in on itself.

"Sit," Ronan said, gesturing toward the wide chairs in front of the desk. None of us moved. We all stood frozen beneath the weight of whatever truth we were about to hear.

Ronan didn't seem surprised.

He drew in a deep breath and looked directly at me.

"Last night, you proved everyone wrong who believed you didn't belong in this pack, Bloom. And I'm keeping my word. The investigation is continuing."

He rested one hand on the documents spread across the desk.

"I ordered the sealed chests hidden behind the wards in the lowest levels of the library to be opened. These records date back to the earliest days of the town—when the first pureblood pack came to these lands and put down roots."

I moved closer to the desk and rested my bandaged left hand carefully against its edge.

"What did you find?"

Ronan turned one of the scrolls toward me. An unsettling image covered the parchment—a wolf and a human figure intertwined, both surrounded by chains of runes.

"This record describes a very specific and very dark ritual connected to the bond between the wolf and the hybrid mentioned in the legend."

His expression tightened.

"The legend isn't simply about two people being brought together by prophecy. For that union to be completed, an ancient bonding ritual must take place."

He paused. "But the ritual itself isn't the greatest danger, Bloom."

Ronan's gaze shifted to the other records.

"Once we uncovered this document, I sent our intelligence scouts and border trackers deeper into the town—to old places, hidden places, where rumors survive longer than people."

His jaw hardened. "And everything we questioned, everything we uncovered, led us to two dangerous factions."

Cassian stood beside me with his arms crossed over his chest. His black hair had fallen over his forehead, and his blue eyes grew darker with every word.

"What factions?" he asked. "What did they learn?"

Ronan's jaw flexed.

"The first consists of fanatical packs and radical groups who believe hybrids are impure and therefore unworthy of wolves or pureblood bonds." His tone sharpened.

"To them, a hybrid mating with a pureblood is nothing more than the corruption of sacred wolf blood—polluting a lineage their kind has protected for centuries."

He looked directly at me.

"They consider such a bond a curse. And because of that ideology, they're willing to do anything to prevent it."

Ronan paused before running one finger over a powerful rune marked on the parchment.

"But the second group is far more dangerous."

The room seemed to grow colder.

"They don't care about purity or tradition. They care about power."

His finger remained pressed against the symbol.

"According to these records, if the bond between the wolf and the hybrid is completed through the ancient ritual, the hybrid will gain an extraordinary amount of power."

His voice dropped.

"Power strong enough to disrupt the balance of the supernatural world. Power capable of pushing beyond the limits of nature itself."

A chill crawled down my spine.

"The second faction is terrified of what will happen when that power awakens," Ronan continued. "They're a dark alliance opposed to its existence because they don't want the balance of power shifting against them."

The air in the room turned icy. Behind me, Ivy stopped breathing for a moment. Kai's hands curled into fists. Ronan's explanation began fitting the strange, increasingly dangerous attacks I'd endured into place like pieces of a puzzle.

"So..." I said, refusing to let my voice shake. "The recent attacks? The shadows following me? That's why?"

"I believe so," Ronan answered with a slow nod. "It's the most likely explanation for why the attacks have become so reckless inside our borders."

His expression remained grim.

"Both factions are watching you now, Bloom."

My fingers tightened against the edge of the desk.

"We still haven't determined which group is responsible for which attack. We don't know which shadow belongs to which enemy."

He leaned forward slightly.

"It's possible the two factions don't even know about each other. They may be hunting you at the same time for entirely different reasons."

His eyes stayed on mine.

"One side may want you dead to preserve the purity of their bloodlines. The other may want to eliminate you before the power inside you awakens."

The truth settled heavily in the room.

"You're caught between two fires."

Cassian released a deep, controlled breath, as though trying to hold back Axel's growl.

"I won't let them hunt her," he said. "Nothing is going to touch her."

"Control your anger, Cassian," Ronan warned sharply. "The enemy we're facing has no face."

Cassian's jaw tightened.

"The theories and hidden meanings in these records can only take us so far," Ronan continued. "The only concrete evidence we have is that the ritual exists."

He tapped the parchment. "We don't know exactly how it works. The steps aren't written here."

His gaze returned to me. "And these documents don't contain the answer to what you're supposed to do next."

"Then where is it?" Ivy asked.

She stepped forward from behind us, fear shining in her eyes, though her curiosity was stronger. Ronan slowly gathered the documents on the desk and looked directly at me.

"Beneath the lowest level of this library, there's a place that has been sealed for centuries. Somewhere no one has dared enter." He paused.

"The Forbidden Vault." The words alone seemed to darken the room.

"The physical proof you're searching for may be hidden within its walls. The key to both your past and your future may be down there."

"Then we're going now," Kai said impatiently. "Open the seals. What are we waiting for?"

Ronan gave him a faint smile. There was nothing reassuring about it.

"It isn't that simple, young wolf."

Kai's expression hardened.

"Now we come to the real problem. The wall we can't cross."

Ronan placed both hands on the desk.

"The vault isn't an ordinary basement. It was protected by the town's founding Alphas using ancient runes powerful enough to make the place nearly impossible to breach." He glanced toward the scrolls.

"Only members connected to the pack that currently lives on this land may enter—either by blood or through an officially recognized pack bond."

I frowned. "What does that mean?"

"It means this, Bloom," Beta Zane said as he stepped out from the shadows near the wall. His deep voice filled the room.

"If anyone outside the pack attempted to enter the vault—and under your current status, that includes you—the runes would identify them as a threat."

He came closer to the table.

"The defensive barrier would never allow you through. You wouldn't be able to move even an inch toward the entrance."

His gaze settled on me.

"The seal only grants passage to pack members."

My fingers closed around the bandage on my left hand. The pain from the previous night flashed through my mind. The pressure. The fight. The silver blade.

I had passed the three stages of the physical trial. But the process wasn't complete. Ronan folded the map on the desk and placed it aside.

"That's why the plan is clear."

His eyes locked onto mine.

"You survived the trials last night and proved to everyone that you've earned the right to stand among this pack."

His expression grew more severe. "But the second examination is still ahead of you."

The room fell silent again. "Once you've completed every stage and officially joined the pack, we'll descend into the Forbidden Vault together and open that door."

Ronan's voice lowered. "Until then, we keep our eyes open and remain alert for every shadow."

Two different factions might have been hunting me without even knowing the other existed.

But I wasn't alone anymore. I would complete the process. I would join the pack. Then I would descend into that vault and awaken the power buried in my blood, no matter what it cost me.

I froze. Completely. His lips weren't just kissing me. They were claiming me. Like he was drawing a line no one else was allowed to cross. Like he had something to prove. And all I could do... was kiss him back. His hand slid up to the back of my neck, tilting my head exactly where he wanted it. This wasn't a fake kiss. It was hard, deep, and utterly possessive. The scorching heat of his mouth, the firm sweep of his tongue, the raw hunger radiating from his wolf sent shivers racing through every inch of my body. My knees threatened to give out, and Cassian immediately tightened his grip around my waist, pulling me flush against him to keep me standing. Right in front of Dominic. Without breaking eye contact with him for a second. He was declaring, for everyone to see, that I belonged to him. My breath caught, and he took full advantage of it, deepening the kiss until I couldn't tell where he ended and I began. A quiet sound escaped my lips and disappeared into his mouth, an

The suffocating silence inside the car finally came to an end as we pulled into the school parking lot. When Cassian killed the engine, I felt those sharp blue eyes land on me one last time through the rearview mirror. The tension from the kitchen still lingered between us. His thumb brushing my collarbone. The dangerous conversation we'd had standing inches apart. And one particular sentence that refused to leave my mind. "If the situation calls for it... kissing." I opened my door and stepped out. The cool morning air hit my face, and I took a deep breath. The relief lasted all of three seconds. Cassian rounded the front of the car. Before I could even process what he was doing, his long, warm fingers wrapped firmly around my waist. He pulled me against him with such effortless possession that my back collided with his chest. I turned toward him in complete surprise. He answered with that infuriating Alpha smirk. The one that always said he was in control. His hand remained

When I opened my eyes, the first rays of morning light filtering through the exposed wooden beams overhead stung my eyes. The old house hidden deep within the forest still held onto the suffocating silence of the night.Slowly, I turned toward the other side of the bed. Cassian was still asleep.I remembered the ache that had settled inside me when I'd built that invisible—but impossible to cross—wall between us before turning my back on him last night. But now...The fierce, untouchable Alpha heir lay completely defenseless on the opposite side of the bed. His dark hair was scattered across the pillow. Even the permanent crease between his brows had finally relaxed.I took a slow breath as I carefully sat up. Without bothering to change out of my thin camisole and shorts, I quietly slipped out of bed. We weren't at the pack house anymore. There was no reason to dress differently. As I passed the mirror, my reflection caught my eye. How was I supposed to protect my own heart during th

The heavy thud of the front door echoed through the mold-scented walls of the old house before fading into silence. As the lock clicked into place, it felt like we'd severed our last connection to the outside world right there on the threshold. The performance. The school. Ending things with Fiona in front of everyone. The spectacle we'd put on for the entire pack. The weight of it all settled onto my shoulders at once. But I didn't have the luxury of thinking about any of that. Standing in front of me, her back pressed against the door beneath the dim light of the hallway, was a little fox whose chest was rising and falling just a little too quickly. This wasn't the same woman who had wrapped her arms around me in front of the pack only minutes ago. The same woman who had smiled so sweetly and said, "I was wondering how much longer you planned to make me wait."That mask disappeared the second we stepped inside. The green fire blazing in her eyes melted the cold air filling the hallw

The thread inside my head had been hammering against my temples like a poisoned needle since last night. Bloom standing against the cold glass of her window, looking straight into my eyes as she accused me of being nothing more than an ordinary man ruled by primitive wolf instincts, had sent Axel into a violent rage behind my ribs.I hadn't been able to tell her the truth. I hadn't been able to explain that the damned arrangement with Fiona had only ever been a cover. All I'd told Bloom was that Fiona had been a shield. But today, everything was going to change. Alpha Ronan's dangerous plan to use Bloom as bait had Axel growling with dark satisfaction deep inside me. Fake or not, the little fox would finally be mine.Under the same roof. Far away from the pack. We all left the pack house together that morning and drove to school, but the atmosphere inside the car felt heavier than last night's battle.Bloom stared out the window, trying to understand the newly awakened pack bonds insi

The ancient cellar seemed to freeze the moment those words left Alpha Ronan's mouth. The blood of the First Line. For centuries, it had been nothing more than a legend. A faded story carved into the runes that lined forgotten walls. And now...It was lying right in front of me. On the parchment beneath my hands. In my veins. The shock on everyone's faces slowly transformed into something much darker. Calculation."Everything you've seen and heard in this room," Ronan thundered, his voice cracking through the underground chamber like a whip, "never leaves it."His gaze swept over each of us. "Not one word.""No one learns the truth about Bloom's blood."No one argued. No one even looked capable of speaking. Kai and Ivy were still staring at the parchment—at my family tree—as though their minds hadn't caught up with what they were seeing.Even after we returned upstairs to Alpha Ronan's large study, the suffocating silence followed us. I drifted toward one corner of the room. Kai leaned
