Calla

The whisper started three weeks ago.

At first, I thought it was stress. The kind of auditory hallucination that comes from too many sleepless nights and too much responsibility. Just my mind playing tricks, creating phantom sounds where there was only silence.

But whispers don't usually know your name.

They don't usually know your fears.

And they definitely don't usually offer you everything you've ever wanted.

Calla.

There it was again. Soft. Seductive. Like smoke curling through the gaps in my thoughts.

I was in the training yard, supervising the evening drills. Around me, warriors moved through combat sequences with practiced precision. Everything was normal. Everything was fine.

Except for the voice in my head that shouldn't be there.

You're tired, Calla. So tired of being second. Of being the one who cleans up everyone else's mistakes.

I gripped the railing harder, knuckles going white.

"Ma'am?" One of the younger warriors approached, concern in his eyes. "Are you alright?"

  • The Alpha’s Unforgiven Mate   Chapter 63. For Three Hours

BlissI found Calla's absence by accident.I'd been looking for her to ask about security protocols, Kharo was in meetings, Aria was buried in her translations, and I needed to know if anyone had seen suspicious activity near the western boundary. But Calla wasn't at her post. Wasn't in the training yard. Wasn't in her quarters or the tactical room or any of the places she usually inhabited. She'd simply... vanished. For three hours. When she finally reappeared, walking back into the compound from the direction of the forest, she looked wrong. Not injured, there were no visible wounds. But her eyes were distant, her movements too careful, like she was navigating unfamiliar terrain in her own body.I intercepted her at the eastern gate."Where were you?" I asked, keeping my voice neutral. She stopped, and for a moment I thought she'd just walk past me. Then: "Perimeter check.""For three hours?""It's a big perimeter.""Alone? Without telling anyone?"Her jaw tightened. "I don't report

Calla"Didn't you?" He tilted his head, studying me like I was a puzzle he enjoyed solving. "Invitation isn't always spoken, Calla. Sometimes it's just the absence of refusal."I stood, putting the bed between us. "Get out of my room.""That's not what you want.""You don't know what I want.""Don't I?" He smiled, and it was the smile of something that had been hunting successfully for centuries. "You want recognition. You want to be more than the dependable second. You want to matter in ways that don't require you to subsume your own desires for someone else's vision."Every word landed like a blade finding flesh."You want power that's yours," he continued, moving around the bed with predatory grace. "Not borrowed. Not conditional. Not dependent on Kharo's approval or the pack's acceptance.""That's not…""It is." He was close now, close enough that I could feel the unnatural heat radiating from him. "And I can give it to you. Real power, Calla. The kind that changes everything.""I

  • The Alpha’s Unforgiven Mate   Chapter 60. This Is Different

Aria I watched Bliss absorb the information, saw the way her expression shifted from fear to determination to something harder. Something that reminded me of soldiers I'd treated after wars they couldn't win.She was calculating survival odds."Don't," I said quietly."Don't what?""Don't start planning your own death." I closed the book gently. "I know that look. I've seen it on people who've decided they're worth less than the cause they're fighting for.""I'm not…""You are." I stood and moved to the small cabinet where I kept emergency supplies. I pulled out a flask of something stronger than tea and poured two glasses. "Drink. Then let me tell you something."She took the glass but didn't drink immediately. Waiting.I settled back into my chair and took a long sip before speaking. "Twenty years ago, there was a war between the northern packs. You wouldn't remember, you were barely alive then. But it nearly destroyed everything we'd built. Thousands died. Territory was scorched.

  • The Alpha’s Unforgiven Mate   Chapter 59. Psychologically Destroyed

Bliss"Seven days." Aria's voice was flat. "The ritual window opens in seven days and lasts for approximately six hours. If he completes it during that window, the worlds merge. If he fails, he has to wait another nineteen years."Seven days. One week to figure out how to stop an immortal zealot from rewriting reality."What does the ritual require?" I asked, forcing my voice to stay steady."That's where it gets complicated." Aria sorted through her notes. "From what I can piece together: the Cycle-born must be present at the convergence point, a place where the barrier between worlds is already thin. Lycaon needs to have harvested enough souls to create what the texts call 'a bridge of consciousness.' And the Cycle-born must either willingly participate or be completely broken, unable to resist.""Define 'broken.'""Psychologically destroyed. So traumatized and desperate that you'd do anything to make it stop, including agreeing to be his vessel." Aria met my eyes. "That's why the p

  • The Alpha’s Unforgiven Mate   Chapter 58. 3:47 AM

BlissThe dreams started the night after I overheard the resistance plotting. Not dreams, exactly. More like memories that didn't belong to me.I was standing in a field I'd never seen before, wearing clothes from a century I'd never lived in. My hands, but not my hands, were covered in dirt and blood. Around me, bodies lay scattered like broken dolls, wolves and humans mixed together in death's democracy."Again," a voice whispered. Not to me. Through me. "It happens again."I woke gasping, tangled in sweat-soaked sheets, my heart hammering against my ribs like it was trying to escape. The clock on my nightstand read 3:47 AM.I didn't go back to sleep.Instead, I sat by the window and watched the compound slowly wake up, guards changing shifts, early risers heading to training, the world moving forward while I was stuck in the past. Or past. Multiple pasts that shouldn't belong to me but somehow did.By dawn, I'd made a decision. If I was going to survive this, I needed to understand
