Kiera's POV

I stepped back from the book, wiping my eyes with my elbows. If nothing else, my mind was steeled.

Whoever was responsible for this, I would find out, no matter what it took.

I walked back to the room and lay down in the bed beside Theron. I looked to him. My heart sunk.

I had hated the wrong man all of this time.

Why was he so sorry? Did he regret leaving me? What exactly had I done? I closed my eyes, willing sleep to come, but it didn't. So I lay there, eyes wide, waiting for

Theron's POVThe vision carried me forward.I watched him walk into the ceremony. Calmly, unwilling to rush, shielded by his lies. I watched Keira smile when she saw him.She had no idea. She couldn't have. She saw me. She loved me. It only made sense. Everyone else had thought the same. Every cruel word he spoke. Every cruel action. Every step. Everyone believed it had come from me.I watched Keira's face break. I watched him tear her down, pick someone else. Someone I had nothing to do with. Someone I could care less about. She ran, wiping her eyes with her billowing sleeves. I tried to follow.I couldn't.I wasn't there. I had never been there. All along, I had thought I was drunk. That I'd been used. That I couldn't possibly have picked someone else. I'd been right all along. The vision shifted again. The river. Flowing fiercely, moving straight ahead at great speed. Rain. Heavy, thunderous rain. Pouring relentlessly from the sky, drumming against the surface and disappear

Theron's POVWe shared the silence, staring at each other. Witchcraft has been forbidden in Blackwood for centuries."My jaw tightened."And yet someone practised it beneath the Alpha's own manor."I wasn't talking about just anyone anymore. I was talking about my father. She leaned against the table, her thoughts racing. My heart hurt. None of this could be good. Absolutely none of it. Witchcraft was banned here, and still he did all of this as part of the leadership.Evil. None of what was written on these pages had to be good. I looked from the page to her and back again. "If Silas wrote these..."I swallowed."...then this laboratory isn't where his plans began.""It's where they were perfected.” Kiera completed the sentence just as it started in my head. This definitely could not be happening. My eyes swept across the hundreds of journals lining the shelves.“There are too many. We could spend months down here." Unfortunately, she was right. I didn't even know where to find

Kiera's POVChaos filled me. I sat against the cold stone wall, surrounded by towering shelves crammed with ancient books, cracked potion bottles, and forgotten experiments. I slowly pushed myself to my feet.My legs trembled beneath me.The laboratory was silent.Far too silent.I listened, looking for more answers than I could give myself. He was gone. Silas was gone. I frowned."How...?"The last thing I remembered was collapsing to the floor. And then, nothing. So how had I ended up hidden behind a row of shelves? How had I moved from where I was to this place?Who had moved me?Questions chased one another through my mind with no answers in sight. I had so many questions that I had no answers to.I got up and pushed one of the shelves aside, finding my way back to the middle of the room. I stepped out from the narrow space and into the centre of the laboratory once more. The room was just as amazing as the first time. Shelves piled high with potions and ingredients, and record

Theron's POVI woke up to even more sunlight. I looked around, rubbing my eyes. I remembered small, old men and women feeding me things and catering to my wounds. Seeds, lots of seeds.Kiera. I looked to my side, feeling the bed immediately for her. Nothing. I sniffed around to see if she was anywhere. Still nothing. “She's gone.” Marcus was leaning against the doorpost, watching me. “And where did she go?” I asked, panic rising inside of me. “Well, she left. She didn't want to be here anymore. So she left.” He looked dead serious, and Marcus didn't play about these things. I just stared at him, stunned. “So, now what?” Marcus asked, waiting for his next instructions. Beyond being loyal, he was very efficient. I thought about the next course of action, especially with IronFang. In the middle of that thought, it suddenly got dark. The sunlight in the room disappeared. The sky darkened as though it was night, as though a heavy storm was about to brew. I heard the call of bird

What exactly had I done? I closed my eyes, willing sleep to come, but it didn't. So I lay there, eyes wide, waiting for dawn. By morning, women filled the room, running around and giving me thing after another to drink or rub to help with my wounds. I recognized every potion, every ointment, but I could not argue as I let them do their jobs and thought about what I had witnessed in that study. ‘I'm sorry, Kiera.’Was he truly sorry, or was I dreaming it up? I thought about it, sending myself back to five years ago. What exactly had happened that day? He'd rejected me, yes. But why was he sorry? Why did he fe

Kiera's POVI closed my eyes, falling back as the pressure of the explosion hit me. The ground was hard and sent pain shooting up my spine. I lay there, waiting for the brightness to fade. As the brightness faded, it was eerily silent. I woke again, raising my head to look around, as I wiped a lone ball of sweat from my forehead. Silence. I could see no one else but another lonesome head, coughing up something. He didn't look like any other soldier. He looked like Theron. He looked like he was collapsing, coughing and shifting back into his human body. His body was covered in round black patches that I couldn't see well enough from where I lay. Panic enveloped me.I got up, propping myself up with my elbows and crawling to him slowly. I heard sounds of the crackle of fire and looked around me to find trees burning. Soldiers moaned from their different wounds, and there was a distant sound of horns of the Iron Fang army retreating. They'd finally been dissuaded. I heaved a sigh of

Keiran Walking through the hallways of the Blackwood estate felt like walking through a graveyard where I was the only ghost still breathing. TheronI felt a shiver of fear, but also a deep, dark hunger. I haven't felt alive in five years, but this woman made my blood boil. TheronMy chest always felt like it had a giant hole in it. It was a cold, empty space where my soul used to be. Every time I breathed, the hole hurt. Doctors said I was fine, but they were wrong.
