AURORA

I knew I should run. The chance was there; wide open, but my body refused to move.

I stood frozen, rooted by something stronger than fear. His eyes held me in place, both beautiful and suffocating.

Why does he have so much control over me? I felt his pull, his pain, and his fury.

I had fled from him. I knew there would be punishment, but here I was not running, not even trying.

“Well, isn’t the goddess smiling on us? We’ve been searching for her, and she walks right into our hands. Damon, I must say; you’re one lucky bastard.” Eden said with a smile.

Eden’s voice made me tear my eyes away from Damon and I noticed the other two Alphas also mounted on the horses. I didn’t notice them at first, Damon eclipsed everything.

I could feel Damon’s hurt. It echoed in the bond between us, sharp and raw like an open wound. Suddenly a figure came out of the pack.

“King Damon, I suggest you leave her alone. You can’t take her. This pack isn’t part of your region.” Lyon said, his voice tight

DAMONThe man stiffened, his back facing me as his fists clenched at his sides. The masked men around him turned slowly, exchanging glances, confusion and unease flickering in their posture.“What did you just call me?” the man asked, his voice lower this time; no mockery, no amusement.“I said… Eden. You think I wouldn’t recognize you?” I lifted my head, my eyes wild with fury from the effect of the silver.A cold silence followed, and for a heartbeat, no one moved. The man chuckled; a low, sinister sound.“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” he growled.I looked up at him with absolute clarity in my gaze. “Oh, I do. You betrayed me. You stood beside me, acted like a brother, helped me search for her… while you were the one who took her.”He slowly turned, his fingers reaching up to rip the mask from his face. And there he was. Eden. The same eyes that once stood in battle with me… now stared back, laced with venom.“Yes, it’s me. Hello, brother.” Eden said with a smug smile.

AURORAIt had been days. Days of darkness, days without freedom, without sun, without Damon.I sat slumped in the corner of the windowless room; my prison. My head pounded with exhaustion. The air was stale and thick, and my limbs trembled from weakness and hunger. The stale bread and tasteless soup they pushed into my hands twice a day went mostly untouched. My body was paying the price now and so was my mind. Why has Damon not come for me yet?I rose slowly, my legs unsteady, and began pacing the room for what felt like the hundredth time.My heart raced every time I neared the door, hoping for some miracle; a sign of escape. But it was always locked.I didn’t even know where I was. The walls told me nothing, the silence mocked me.Just then the handle of the door twisted. My breath hitched. The door creaked open and he walked in.The masked one; the so-called boss. I instinctively stepped back, my body tensing as his boots echoed on the stone floor. My back brushed the cold wall a

DAMONI threw the heavy table against the wall; books, maps, ink bottles all shattered on impact. The growl in my chest was inhuman, feral. My claws were halfway out, my eyes were glowing as my wolf fought control. My study was wrecked; shelves toppled, the chandelier swung wildly from the ceiling, and shattered glass littered the floor like deadly snow.“King Damon, Stop!” Eden shouted as he threw himself into my path, grabbing my arm before I could cause more havoc. He gripped me tighter. “Please… enough. This won’t bring her back.” Eden said, his voice firm.My body trembled. I jerked my arm away from him and turned my back, facing the window.“Three days, Eden. Three days… and nothing… Not a word on what they want.”Marcus stepped over the mess and stood beside Eden. “Brother, calm down. We will track the bastard. We’ve done it before. They can’t hide from us.”Aaron nodded, his voice confident. “They made a mistake taking your mate. That makes them dead men walking.”I turned sl

AURORAI jerked awake, gasping as icy droplets dripped down my skin and into my clothes. My head throbbed violently, a sharp pain pulsing behind my eyes. I winced, blinking hard against the sting of the light that poured in from a small, cracked window high on the wall.I tried to move; only to realize my wrists were bound tightly to the arms of the chair. My ankles were strapped too, rough rope biting into my skin as I tried to struggle.Panic surged in my chest as I looked around the unfamiliar space. The room was stone-walled. It smelled of mildew and blood.Where am I? What happened? Then it came flooding back; Damon, the meeting point, Oprah, the knife, the carriage and then darkness.“Look who’s finally awake…” a voice echoed from the shadows. The voice was a female, taunting, laced with mock amusement. It stirred something in me; a memory.“The queen of Moonshadow… or should I say… the cursed queen. The witch.” the voice spoke again.I turned my head toward the source, fear pri

AURORAI walked quietly through the dense bush, every step soft and deliberate, the only sound around me was the chirping of birds and the crunch of dried leaves. The air was thick, humid, almost still. My heart pounded as I approached the exact spot Lyon described from the parchment.I stopped, no one was here. My eyes scanned the treeline, then the ground, nothing.I had gotten it wrong? Had they changed their mind? Or worse… was Oprah already dead?A sudden rustling in the bushes snapped my attention to the left. My breath hitched.Five masked men emerged, each clad in dark leather, their faces obscured by cloth. In between them was Oprah.“Oprah,” I breathed, my voice cracking. She was barely standing, her wrists tightly bound with coarse rope, her head hanging low, face bruised, her lip split. She looked fragile, like she could collapse with the wind. My eyes welled with tears at the sight.“Let her go! Now! I’m here! It’s me you wanted!” I shouted, my voice filled with desperat

AURORA“No way in hell am I letting you meet with rogues!” Damon barked, his voice thunderous as he stormed down the corridor toward his study.I trailed behind him, refusing to back down. “Damon, it’s me they want or they’ll kill Oprah! I have to do something!”He spun around, his eyes blazing. “Do you really think you’re who they’re after? You’re just a pawn, Aurora! I’m the one they want. You’re the bait they’re using to draw me out.” he snapped. My breath hitched at his words; but he stood firm.“Irrespective of their reason… I can’t just sit back while Oprah dies! I won’t!”Tears spilled from my eyes. “She’s the mother I never had, Damon. I can’t just watch her be slaughtered because of me!” my voice cracking with raw desperation. In two long strides, Damon was standing in front of me. He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me tightly into his chest, one hand cradling the back of my head.“I know how much Oprah means to you. I promise you, Aurora… I will save her.” Damon said, h
