Chapter 2

Alana’s POV

The drive back to Alpha Matthew’s pack was long but was not boring. He filled me in with how my mother was his best friend all of his life until her parents decided to do that to her. He told me about how heartbroken he was, and how he tried so hard to bring her back with the help of witches but there was no way to bring her back and all of his attempts were futile. The way he spoke about her, it felt like I had known her too. Our faces were so similar that I was sure she looked exactly like I did when she was my age.

I wished I had met her, and it aches my heart to know that I would never meet her. The only thing left to do was find my father now so I could at least have a relationship with one of my parents.

“And we have arrived.” He told me.

The door was opened for me and I got down, my eyes widening at the sheer size of his palace. This was the first time I had ever been to a palace, and it surpassed my imagination. It was tall and majestic, with towers holding it and guards patrolling all around. It was the most protected place I have ever been. I would have been a fool to reject the offer of staying here.

“Your palace is beautiful, Alpha Matthew.” I smiled at him, and he smiled back before he nodded.

“Thank you, Alana.”

We strolled together inside while one of the guards picked up my bag and strolled behind us. Who knew that this was going to be my life now? I had thought I was going to be forced to be a slave to a narcissistic alpha and spend the rest of my days in regret and pain but I was wrong. I have never been so glad that I was wrong. I felt bad for the ladies back there that would not meet the fate that I did and I felt bad for them.

When we got on, my eyes were scanning the place and I was in awe. From the gold shimmering on the wall and the antique objects that their price could set me up for life, it felt like I was stepping into a very good dream. When we got into the sitting room, he stopped and I stood beside him. I was so excited to see what my room was going to look like, and attend the medical school I had studied so hard to get admission into.

It was in this pack, which was a coincidence that just registered in my head, which made my mood instantly spike up.

“I am going to have a maid take you to your room so you can rest,” he told me. “I am going to assign someone to take you shopping later. You can also come and eat after you are ready. Is that okay?” He asked.

“Yes, thank you.” “You are welcome.”

Alpha Matthew called on one of the guards and he nodded before he took me to the place where I was going to stay. It was on the second floor. I wasn’t sure how many floors were in this palace, but it looked like there were a lot. I wondered if he had a lot of children. If he did, I couldn’t wait to meet them. I have never had luck with having friends back when I was in the orphanage. I hoped it was going to change this time.

When we got to the room, he opened the door and let me in. “Please mind link me if you need anything.” He offered.

“I will, thank you.” I smiled at him before he bowed a little and left the room, closing the door softly behind him.

I couldn’t even believe that I had my own room. I could sleep without covering my ears because of the babies crying and the other children playing all night long. It felt so unrealistic that I had to pinch myself before reality dawned back to me. The room was simple, but it was going to serve my needs and I couldn’t be happier about it. I opened up the zip to my bag from earlier and brought out the admission letter that I had printed.

When I was putting it in my bag earlier, I didn’t know that I was ever going to attend it. I had already lost every faith in getting to the school of my dreams and now, I was going to attend it. I couldn’t even contain my happiness. I got into the bathroom and stripped away my clothes, then had a warm shower. After that, I wore my new clothes which were tattered and old because the dean of our orphanage was too cheap to buy us new clothes even with all of the donations we used to get.

He kept all the money for himself. After I was done, I stared at myself in the long mirror before I left the room. I remembered the way down so I just followed it as I tried to tie the torn corner of my dress, and then I hit something hard. Raising my head up, I realized that I had just hit someone. Our eyes met, and I nearly gasped. He was the most handsome man I have ever seen. He was tall and dark, his eyes a light shade of green, and his face sculpted like art.

Georgia, my wolf immediately rose in me, and I heard her call the name I hadn’t expected her to say anytime soon since I was an Omega and it didn’t happen to us that early.

‘He is our mate.’ She said.

“Can’t you see where you are going?” He asked. I noticed the scowl on his face this time. Who the hell was he?

I was speechless for a while because of the revelation, but I soon recovered and replied to him, “You hit me while I was passing.”

“Maybe sometimes you should learn how to look forward when you are walking.” He hissed.

“Maybe you should too or people would not walk into you too,” I replied.

“Babe, babe,” someone cooed behind him. He turned around and I peered beside him to see the source of the annoying voice, and another girl came in sight. She was tall and pretty, but her voice, even though I just heard a fraction of it, annoyed me to bits. “You didn’t wait for me to finish my makeup.” She said.

When she approached and was in front of us, she stopped to stare at me, then at him.

“Are you the new maid?” She asked.

I frowned as I stared at her. I didn’t know who they were, but they had to be royalty because of the clothes they were wearing. Her hands on my mate made my chest burn, and I had to tell my wolf to calm down because I had just met him. I didn’t even know if the mate bond was going to result in something because he was an ass.

“No, I am not,” I replied to her.

“Then why are you dressed that way?” She sized me up and then scoffed.

I didn’t feel offended because I knew the way I was dressed was awful compared to hers, but it still didn’t give her the right to speak to me like that. I wanted to tell her off for being rude, and then I reminded myself of who she might be. Maybe she was related to Alpha Matthew and if I were to irritate her, he might choose to not help me again. Perhaps I should just mind my business and keep my head down.

It was just my first day here, I would hate to make enemies already.

“Because I am just coming from an orphanage.” I tried to say in the nicest way possible before I swerved away from them and left to head to the stairs.

I got down and thankfully, Alpha Matthew was seated on the dining table. I didn’t want to run into another rude person here who would talk bad about my clothing.

“You are already done?” He smiled warmly when he saw me.

“Yes, sir.” I nodded before I sat down on the chair by the sides of the table.

“Please wait for my son and his fiancé to come so we can all start dinner together.” He said.

It clicked almost immediately. His son and fiancé, my mate, and the woman I had just seen in the hallway. I turned back to look at them when they were approaching, his eyes locked with mine. They sat down next to each other while the lady was all over him.

“This is Alaric and Ava,” Alpha Mathew said. “Alaric and Ava, this is my new daughter that I am going to adopt. Her name is Alana.”

‘Mine’ Georgia mumbled and I darted my gaze away from them to the plate in front of me, feeling my heart shift uncomfortably. My mate just had to have a fiancé. I wasn’t surprised, because it was about time my shitty streak of luck showed itself yet again. I should be used to it by now.
