After I couldn’t find Dr. Vale, I went to the council hall in the morning and was welcomed by Elder Orion. He led me to the meeting room, and there I found all the elders seated in their chairs.

“Alpha, you’re welcome,” Elder Lukas said as he bowed his head before meeting my gaze. “We leave in an hour to attend Darius’s funeral preparation meeting. The pack will have to be ready by tomorrow morning to lay him to rest. When all that is done, we will conduct formal investigations into his death. We believe there was something odd about his passing.”

“Do you think someone had a hand in his death?” I asked because that thought had never really crossed my mind.

I was still in denial because I hoped that when he got better, I would dethrone Xander and announce him as my Beta.
