Mia

“Come with me!” Rolex grabbed my wrist just as I was about to leave. His grip was strong, almost rough, and no matter how I tugged, he didn’t let go. He dragged me down the hall, ignoring my little struggles, until we reached the balcony.

When we got there, I yanked my hand free, my chest rising and falling with anger. I remembered clearly why I had been avoiding him. His own brother’s life was falling apart, yet he just stood by and watched, as if none of it mattered.

“Are you even his brother?” I snapped, glaring at him. “Or do you hate him so much that you’re happy to watch his life get ruined?”

Rolex only gave a lazy smile, like my words didn’t bother him one bit. “It’s no use,” he said flatly.

And the painful part? He was right. No matter what anyone say, Maxello and Harper always found their way back to each other, no matter how toxic things got.

“Are you always this dramatic?” he asked suddenly, his voice dragging me out of my thoughts.

I frowned. “What?”

“It’s painfully obvious how much you love him,” he said, his eyes fixed on me.

My heart skipped as the heat rushed to my face. Was it really that obvious? Did everyone see it that easily?

“He’s just my friend,” I muttered, looking away quickly, but his smirk told me he didn’t believe a word.

“Of course he knows,” Rolex said. “Even Maxello knows. We barely just met, and I can already tell. You think he hasn’t noticed after all these years?”

His words hit harder than I wanted to admit. Even Bruno teased me about it, If Max really knew… then why did he act like he didn’t? Why did he let me stay close, if he knew the truth about my feelings? What game was he playing with me?

I was lost in thought when I suddenly felt Rolex’s presence shift closer. Too close. His warmth pressed against my back, his breath brushing the side of my neck, my whole body stiffened, but instead of moving away, I found myself leaning into him.

My body betrayed me, again.

“Look,” he whispered, nodding toward the poolside, I followed his gaze. Maxello and Harper were there, arguing, their voices loud even from a distance.

“They’ll never leave each other,” Rolex said like he was making some final judgment. “They’re both obsessed. Blinded by love, blinded by lust. No matter how hard you try to pull them apart, they’ll always run back to each other.”

I hated that he was probably right.

“Do you think Nate doesn’t know she’s cheating?” he continued. “Nothing would make me happier than them staying together. At least Nate won’t have to suffer if she’s already out of his life.”

I spun to face him, and suddenly we were a breath apart.

“You claim to be his brother, yet you’d let him stay with someone like her? Do you even love him at all?”

Rolex’s eyes darkened. For a moment, I saw something raw in them, pain.

“What’s your definition of love?” he asked softly, almost mockingly. His gaze locked on mine, daring me to answer.

“Longing for someone for years, even when they don’t feel the same,” he whispered, my throat tightening every seconds with him.

“It’s misery. That’s what love does, it makes you miserable.”

The look in his eyes shifted again to something more dangerous. He stepped closer, and I backed away until my back hit the cold wall. He didn’t stop until there was barely space between us, his presence swallowing me whole.

“W-what are you doing?” I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper.

He leaned in, his lips dangerously close to my ear, his breath hot against my skin.

“If the wedding happens,” he murmured, his voice deep and husky, “I’ll leave you to chase Maxello all you want. But if it doesn’t…” His words slowed, dragging out like a promise and a threat at the same time. “If it doesn’t, I’ll make mine.”

My breath hitched as his hand trailed slowly up my thigh, his touch was torturous. My lips parted involuntarily, air catching in my lungs.

“I’ll crawl inside your head, your body, your soul,” he whispered, his voice sinking deeper, “I’ll make you forget Maxello ever existed.”

I couldn’t let him think he had control over me. My trembling hand shot down, grabbing his wrist before it went any higher. “Fine,” I said through my uneven breaths. “I agree.”

His lips curled into a victorious smile, his eyes glinting like he had won something.

“Good,” he whispered. “Now watch me destroy the wedding.”

So that was his plan. Lure me into his bet, then wreck Max’s life just to win me.

“Don’t you dare,” I snapped, my voice shaking but steady enough to make it clear. “I’ll stop you every time you try. That’s a promise.”

Before he could respond, a familiar voice cut through the tension.

“What are you two doing?”

Maxello’s voice.

I jolted, pushing Rolex away from me so fast I almost stumbled. The cold air rushed in where his body had been, but instead of relief, I felt an ache, a burning I already missed.

Maxello’s eyes darted between us, suspicious and displeased. He tried to mask it, but I knew him too well. I could read him like an open book. And what I saw there… was something close to jealousy.

RolexIt all came crashing back the instant my eyes landed on the picture frame, not slowly or in fragments. It hit me like a violent storm ripping through everything that had been empty inside my head since the day I woke up on that hospital bed. The numbness shattered, and pain, real pain came flooding back with memories so vivid they stole the air from my lungs. My promise echoed louder than anything else. Promises I made to protect her and Fiona and not let any harm come to them. The words kept repeating, taunting me.I remembered everything. The warmth of Mia’s laugh. The softness in her voice when she called my name like it was a prayer. Fiona’s tiny fingers wrapped around mine and Leo’s shy smiles, the way he used to cling to Mia.And then… The crash. The sound of metal screaming as it folded in on itself. Glass shattering. I saw it again, clearer than ever.Mia’s body halfway out of the wrecked car, covered in blood that wasn’t all hers. Her hands slipping on broken glass as

MiaI stepped into the hall, my pace slowing as my eyes swept across the space. Everywhere I looked, it screamed extravagance. Crystal chandeliers glimmered above, their light reflecting off polished floors. Long tables dressed in white and gold stretched across the hall, servers weaving effortlessly between guests with trays of champagne and wine. Soft music floated through the air. This was no ordinary meeting. This was the address she had sent me. I had come because of Rolex, I had swallowed my pride, ignored my instincts, and come here alone. But standing here now, surrounded by strangers dressed like royalty, I realized how badly I had miscalculated. This was supposed to be a private meeting between me and that woman. So why did this look like the opening of a major event?A party.I felt horribly out of place. My simple dress suddenly felt inadequate among the designer gowns and tailored suits. I clutched my phone tightly, my pulse quickening as unease crept up my spine. I pul

MiaThere Bruno stood in the doorway, frozen in shock, his eyes wide and fixed on the man beside me as if he had just seen a ghost crawl out of the grave.“Bruno?” My voice came out breathless. “What the hell are you doing here?”I adjusted my robe instinctively and stepped closer to Rolex, standing shoulder to shoulder with him as if my body could shield him from whatever storm Bruno had brought with him. Bruno didn’t answer me immediately. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from Rolex.“Rolex?” he finally called, disbelief thick in his voice. “How… how is he alive?”Rolex’s expression remained empty and unreadable, but I felt the slight tension in his body. He had sensed it too. The familiarity in Bruno’s reaction, the way his voice broke when he said that name.“You shouldn’t be here,” I snapped, panic clawing at my chest. Without waiting for another word, I grabbed Rolex’s arm, pulled him back, and slammed the door shut in Bruno’s face. The loud bang echoed through the apartment.I le

MiaThe knock on the door was mpatient, cutting through the quiet of the apartment like a warning.I froze for a second, my heart leaping to my throat. I had just stepped out of the shower, a robe loosely tied around me, my hair still dripping wet and clinging to my shoulders. Whoever it was sounded like they had no intention of waiting. It couldn’t be Kay.Kay’s biometrics were registered at the door. He had full access. He never had to knock, he simply walked in whenever he wanted… but he always make sure he informed me before showing up here.Another knock came, louder this time.I hurried out of my room, my bare feet slapping softly against the tiled floor as I moved toward the door. With each step, unease settled deeper in my chest. Something about the urgency felt wrong.I reached the door and opened it.The moment it swung open, my breath caught painfully in my throat.“Rolex…” His name escaped my lips in a whisper before I could stop myself. He stood there, tall and solid in

  • The Bet That Broke Us   137

RolexThe moment our lips brushed together, everything shattered. It wasn’t gentle or romantic. It was violent and sudden, like my mind had been ripped open without warning. A blurred image of a woman flashed in my head, her face was not clear and her features distorted as if seen through water…but her voice was desperate and unmistakable.“Rolex!”The sound of my name echoed again and again, louder each time, until it drowned out every other noise around me. A sharp pain exploded at the back of my head, spreading forward until it felt like my skull was splitting apart. I gasped, pulling away instinctively, my hands flying to my temples as if I could physically hold my mind together. The room spun.“Rolex!” the voice cried again inside my head.It wasn’t Neville’s voice. The pain intensified, turning into a violent pounding that blocked out everything else…It was like my senses shut down one by one, overwhelmed by the noise in my head and the pressure threatening to crush me from the

RolexIt was a beautiful lie that I told when I said I didn't feel any spark, and that was the only way I could describe what happened at the beach. The moment my lips touched hers, something inside me cracked open. It was violent and sudden. My body reacted before my mind could catch up, like it had been waiting for her without my permission. For a split second, I forgot the confusion that had ruled my life since I woke up in that hospital bed with no memory and too many scars. All I felt was her.The heat, the pull. The way my chest tightened and my breath shortened, like my body recognized her even when my mind refused to. It scared the hell out of me.That kind of reaction wasn’t normal. Not for a stranger. Not for someone I was supposed to distrust. And yet, my control slipped the moment I tasted her, as if something ancient and familiar had stirred awake inside me.That was why I pulled away.If I hadn’t, I wasn’t sure I would have stopped myself. Now, as I drove back home, her
