TESSA’S POV

Logan would have realized by now that something was wrong when I didn’t come home.

The door swung open as a nurse walked in, with a notebook in her hands.

“Hey, you're awake. That’s a good sign.

My name is Gloria, and I’m one of the nurses here. I’ve come to check on you.

How are you feeling right now?”

“I feel… fine.”

“Okay. I want to know if you remembered anything—from the previous incident.”

“Yes. I remember, I was in a car accident; I hit my head against the window, and then…” I remembered Kelvin and how he’d brought me here. “There was a man with me.”

“Good. You remember most of it, and yes, there was a man with you. He said you were a friend of his.”

“My baby? What about my baby?”

“It’s all fine. No harm was done to the child in your womb.”

I let out a breath of relief at that. “Thank God.”

“I’d given the report to your husband. He arrived a few minutes after the man who’d brought you in left.”

“Husband?” I questioned, and she cocked a brow at me, her smile droppin

ANGELINA’S POV“Hey, Angel,” Jake called the moment I stepped into his office. The nickname still sent butterflies fluttering in my stomach.“You called for me?” I asked, moving toward his desk.“Yes, there’s something we need to talk about,” he said, as I perched on the edge of the table, facing him. “It’s about Sophia. I… don’t really trust her.”There was something in his voice that told me he was being serious. “Did she do something wrong?”“She just really gives me this weird feeling.I think it was a mistake letting her stay in our wing; she should live amongst other breeders.”“But she’s having our child; if she’s closer, we could watch over her better.”“She doesn’t need to live in our wing for that, Angel. There are plenty of nurses down there, and she’ll be fine. We can visit, but I don’t think we should let her stay.”“Jake, what’s going on?”“Nothing. I just don’t like the idea of sharing our personal space with some… stranger.”That was a very un-Jake-like thing to say.

Logan’s gaze locked on me. “What’s he doing here?”“I’m the mate, have you forgotten?” Wraith questioned, not bothering to hide his jealousy.Werewolves had sharper senses; they could pick up scents easily. Which meant he knew exactly what we’d done in this room.“I see you’ve made your decision,” Logan muttered, more to himself than to me. “I’m happy for you, Tessa,” he said, with a small smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.“I’m sorry, Logan. But you were right.”He nodded slowly. “I guess I was.How are you feeling?”“Good as new.”“No injuries.” He noted.“I was lucky; Wraith came with a healing potion.”“What exactly happened?”“Kelvin happened. He must’ve been sent, but I wasn’t the one he was after. So… he brought me here. Kept apologizing the whole time.”“Prehaps I was the one he was after, it was my car after all, I should have been the one in it.But it’s clear he wasn’t very well informed on how to kill werewolves,—it requires a little more than a common car crash.”“Wh

Wraith had taken off the bandage, and surprisingly, I was as good as new. Not even a scar was left on the spot.“Works like magic,” I said to him.“It is magic.”I noticed the faint dark circles under his eyes—easy to miss, but there. They didn’t make him any less good-looking, yet they left me wondering what Wraith had gone through while I was gone.“You said you’d already been on your way here when you got the call.” I stated.“Yes. I had something I needed to talk to you about.”“What is it?”“We’ll talk about it later.”“Tell me now. please.”“I’ll be challenging Rex for his position as Alpha.” He informed me, his eyes scanning my face for any sign of disapproval. “I know this isn’t something you want to hear, and you might not understand why I have to do this—”“I do.”“You do?”“Yes. I know it’s not the title you’re after. You told me before; you didn’t even want the Beta title. You only accepted it because he made you. You’re challenging him because you’ve discovered that the

LOGAN’S POVWith every passing hour, I grew more restless. By the time evening fell, I was sure something had gone wrong. I called the phone I’d left in the car, but it went unanswered. She might just be ignoring the calls—or perhaps, she left. But that wasn’t Tessa.I shut my eyes, visualizing what the inside of my car looked like. It wasn’t going to be hard to drift right into the car, even though I might just end up intruding on her privacy. Then I heard the main door open, and I let out a breath of relief as I walked out of my room.“Tessa, I—”That wasn’t her scent. That scent… I recognized it. But it couldn’t be possible; there was simply no way it could be the same person. Perhaps it was all my imagination. And then I heard the footsteps, calm, silent, also exactly how I’d remembered it.There he was. The man that should be dead, the man we’d buried. Falcone Callister, my father.“Hello, son.” He said with a small smile.Falcone looked a lot like George, though his eyes were a

TESSA’S POVWraith and I were no longer a thing; I’d told him to go on with his life, just as I would with mine.So why did one kiss with Logan feel like a betrayal?Perhaps it was the mark-Ink on my neck, a reminder that I was still bonded to him—a reminder that he never truly let go. I was still his mate, and I’d let another man kiss me.I took a step away from Logan.“I’m sorry,” he apologized, even though none of this was his fault.“No, it’s fine,” I lied.“It’s not. I’m not blind, Tessa; I can see the regret written all over your face.” He said softly, shoving his hands into his pants’ pocket.“Perhaps, I just need some more time to… adjust; it’s still all so new to me.”“No amount of time would be enough to make you adjust to loving me. Not when you love another.I’d fooled myself into believing that if you spent some time with me and got to know me better, that would change. I was wrong. What you feel for him is far stronger, and that’s why kissing me fills you with guilt, eve
