Danika’s POV

I never thought my body was capable of such intense feelings, but that night, Rex had shown me just how possible it was, and naively, I believed that that night was the start of something bigger.

I was wrong.

Days passed by, and I was yet to get even a glimpse of him. It was no secret that he was avoiding me; what I couldn’t understand was why.

I’d spent the past days worrying and overthinking it all—had I done something wrong? Had all we shared been one-sided? Though back there, I would have sworn he’d felt just as much as I did, but as the days passed by, I wondered if my conclusion was also wrong.

Perhaps I wasn’t the problem. Maybe what we shared meant nothing to him; after all, a man like Rex would have women lined up at his beck and call.

Today, I wasn’t going to spend my precious time thinking about all of that.

I walked to the drawers, pulling them open, one before the next. In each was a compilation of jewelries. Many were made from various precious stones, but

~RACHEL VALEMONT POV~I stared at the bottle of alcohol before me. I’d disposed of every drug and every bottle of alcohol, but this one. All these months, I’d pretended not to know it was in the kitchen cupboard, but now, I’d finally brought it out.It called to me, promising me that one drink was all that I needed and then Derek would be long forgotten.Things had finally been going well, and that was a rare thing for me; but then I saw him. Tessa’s father. And now I could almost see everything I’ve worked so hard for crumbling down.I’d made a promise; I’d promised Tessa, I’d promised myself that I wouldn’t turn back to the route. This last bottle I’d so greedily kept was more than just a bottle of alcohol; it was proof that there was still that very tiny part of me, still holding on to my very ugly past.Tears ran down my cheeks as I stared at the bottle that could give me the numbness I sought after right now, and with a scream, I picked it up and tossed it against the wall, watch

I’d spent over three hours firing at the target board, Rex would cut in every few minutes to offer me some more guidance on how to aim better, and I actually thought I was getting better.“That’s good,” he commented. “Now I need you to aim for that spinning dummy.”“I’ll never get a shot at that.”“Your opponents won’t always be standing still.”“Yeah, they’ll be moving in circles.” I snorted.“To learn this, you need to keep your fears and doubts aside and simply focus on the possibilities before you.” he said. Just like he did the last time, he guided my aim. I couldn’t help the memories of how those very hands had felt down there, how those lips had kissed me, how rough—“Danika.”“Yes.”“You seemed a bit carried away.”“Sorry, what were you saying again?”“Fire.”On instinct, I did, and to my surprise, it did hit the wooden dummy.“Good, you’ve earned your first gun.” He said, but he didn’t move away. His hands on my hips remained there, and how badly I wanted to feel him again,

WRAITH’S POVThe woods had always felt like home to me, and yet, today, they didn’t. I felt restless, like there was some other place I needed to be, and so I’d shifted back to my human form, threw on a pair of pants, and headed back to the pack house.I spotted Angelina, making her way to me, panic written all over her face. “What’s wrong?” I questioned.“It’s Tessa.”I shouldn’t have left her. That was the only thought in my mind as I walked into the bathroom. The mirror had been broken, her knuckles were bleeding, and her face was pale as snow. I had never seen her so afraid, not even when I’d found her down in that lair.“Can you look after Blake for the day? ” I questioned Angelina, and she nodded; with a last glance at Tessa, she retreated to Blake’s room.I stepped over the broken shards and took a seat beside Tessa.“Are you alright?” I questioned, though the answer to that question was staring right back at me. She was far from fine.I took her injured hand in mine, but she

WRAITH’S POVI gazed out the window in the meeting room, taking in the view of the clear sky, just before I heard the footsteps, announcing his arrival. “I did not expect to be summoned back here any time soon.” Alpha Terrain said as he walked into the meeting room.“I didn’t think I’d be calling on you anytime soon either.”“So why did you?” he questioned.“I’ve been thinking about what you told me on your last visit, and I believe you—or at least I believe there is some truth to your words.” I said, taking a seat and he did the same.“Believe me, I’m happy to hear that, but you could have sent that as a message; I didn’t have to come all the way here.”“I called on you because I needed to ask you some more questions—about the Circle.”“I’ve told you everything I know.”“I need details. You spoke about some side effects victims suffered after the serum was tested on them. I want to know every one of them you can remember.”“Every side effect?”“Every single one of them.”“I could ha

RACHEL VALEMONT’S POVI’d stayed the day to watch over Blake. Lately I’d been thinking of moving fully to live at the pack house. It'll only make sense since I usually spend most of my time here.“How is he doing?” Tessa asked as she took Blake from my arm.I smiled at the sight of my daughter and my grandson. I couldn’t believe I would have missed all of these, I couldn’t believe I had once thrown away the very thing that mattered to me the most. But more than anything, I was grateful that I realized the truth before it became truly too late.I might not have been a part of Tessa’s life when she needed me the most, but at least I got to be present in Blake’s life. That was more than I deserved, and I wasn’t going to throw this away for anything in the world.“He is getting… bigger.” I responded. That fact about werewolf children was a mystery to me, and yet it excited me, watching him grow every single day.“He sure is.”“Tomorrow is going to be a busy day at work; I might spend the
