Never Again

“The beauty of life is, while we cannot undo what is done, we can see it, understand it, learn from it and change so that every new moment is spent not in regret, guilt, fear or anger but in wisdom, understanding and love.”

“If it was up to me, I would not even let you work in any of the companies in New York, let alone my office.”
Those painful words kept ringing in my ears, stealing me of my peace of mind. I was already swimming in the pool of guilt, hearing those words from his mouth had left me in a puddle of misery. For years, I have been running from my past, facing the difficulties, but his face has brought me back to the place from where I started.
To zero!
"Damn! Babe!" Kat's yelling pulled me out of the trance. Turning my face towards her, only to find har staring at her laptop's screen with 'puppy- dog eyes'. "Why the hell didn't you tell me your Xavier Knight is the living Greek god?"
"He's not mine, and secondly why on earth are you stalking him?" I asked, raising my eyebrows at her. Kat shrugged, flicking her brown hair, usually tied in a bun that was now hanging loosely over her shoulder.
"Because my dear Eve, I've to look out for you." She replied, obviously in her 'duh' tone.
This girl!
"And dude, he looks nothing like you described." She said, sounding disappointed.
"He changed." I sighed, "People change."
"I didn't know about anyone, but he definitely aged like fine wine." She commented, while shutting down the laptop, scooting closer to me.
As always her calculative gaze studied my face and despite my every attempt to ignore her, I failed. There was no point in telling her the hate I faced in the office, because I was literally tired of seeing the pity in her eyes.
"Tell me." She asked as her voice turned serious, her questions always made my skin tingle with anxiety.
"Do you think I'm getting punished?" I asked.
A frown appeared on her face after hearing the question. Sighing, she wrapped her arms around me, placing her head on my shoulder. "You changed Eve, you had your fair share of punishment a long time ago. Don't let anyone walk over you all again."
The hatred in his eyes appeared once again before my eyes. "He hates me." I said, leaning into the couch. "And I think I deserve every bit of his contempt."
Kat stood up, her eyes were twinkling in amazement, disturbingly. "Stand up." She said, well not said, she commanded me.
"Why?" I groaned.
"I'm dressing you up for a 'girls' night, now come on."
I was about to say 'no', which was also my got-to-go answer in every situation. But, Kat literally dragged me out of the living room to her bedroom. I wasn't even sure how she switched her mood from serious to partying, but maybe I needed it right now. Kat hid a stash of perfect dresses for me that she knew I would never purchase as seeing my closet contained a bunch of T-shirts and jeans. I had been trying out a bunch of dresses for half an hour already and it seemed that most of them just didn't work out.
"Kat! This is ridiculous. I'm not opening up my 'soul' for everyone to see," I whined. I was bothered that she might try to set me up with some strange guy in the nightclub.
Rolling her eyes at me, She exaggerated. "This is a nightclub, Eve. You're not going to look like a virgin if you're stepping in with me. That's like the tenth dress you've tried on. Pick the damn dress!"
Getting frustrated, I pinched the bridge of my nose, taking a deep breath, I said, "Okay, okay. Just get me a dress that would at least cover my upper body."
"Hold on, I think I've something that you'd definitely approve of." Kat shuffled back to her closet and took out a deep green satin fabric. She then handed it to me. "Here, try this on."
Putting on the dress, I looked at myself in the mirror. My mouth curved into a smile when I saw it perfectly covered the upper area, I didn't mind the slit though. It was a perfect deep green sweetheart neckline backless satin dress. It hugged my body comfortably while the bottom flowed with a slit showing my right leg from knee to feet. I was a bit concerned with the back since it was bare. But in totality, I liked it.
Kat couldn't even contain her excitement. "You look gorgeous babe, like 'drooling' worthy." And I rolled my eyes at her comment.
I wasn't really into make-up. My daily routine only consisted of me putting on some cheek tint, loose powder and light pink shade of lipstick. It was a long time ago, I used to wear a ton of make-up, but guess what people change. Since this night was a once in a lifetime thing, I applied mascara and eyeliner just to let my brown with a tinge of green specs eye color pop. I curled my natural strawberry blonde, giving them slightly a more wavy look than usual as then accentuated loosely until my back.
Kat and I were now ready to go. She was wearing a black dress, red pumps and dark red lipstick.
Guess, who was in a full party mood.
"Damn! Girl you're totally getting laid today." I said as the side of my lips twitch to form a natural smirk.
"Shut up, I've got a boyfriend." She rolled her eyes at me. "But, you're definitely getting laid today."
"Hey!" I slapped her shoulder playfully.
Kat just chuckled. "Come on virgin, let's go have fun tonight."

The nightclub was already in full swing when we arrived. There were a lot of people lining up waiting to get access inside.
"Are you sure we could still fit in there?" I asked while Kat tried to find a parking spot nearby.
"Don't worry. Mason already got us into the guest list. We wanted to celebrate. Plus, you need to get out of the apartment," Kat assured me.
"Wait, Mason is here, like really here!" I exclaimed, hearing that Mason finally came from his tour.
It has been six years to Mason and Kat's relationship, I know he wanted to finish off his work of the year, so that he could finally prepare to propose to the love of his life and get married. He was my biggest support for years after Kat. I'd have known that partying would definitely be his idea, I still remember the day when he threw a party named 'I finally found my little sister', and that was me.
Those days….
No, no, nope. I know what everyone would be thinking, but no Mason and I weren't blood related. But, he had accepted me as his sister the day he saw me.
"Fuck! It was considered to be a surprise. Eve, promise me when you see Mason, you'll act like it is a fucking surprise from him." Kat told me sternly.
I was laughing my ass off, "Why of course Katherine, I'll definitely do as you said."
She was relaxed with my reply, although it somewhat bothered me whatever he planned to do for tonight. I just hoped that I wouldn't be tossed to a pile of hungry horny men. I shuddered at the thought.
As we entered the club, the music blasted through the speakers while the neon lights were blinding my vision. My eyes took their time to adjust to the scene around me. It was overwhelming at first but I could see that Kat couldn't contain her excitement.
"Eve, that's our table over there!" She screamed in my ear, pointing to a corner where it was a few meters away from the dance floor. It was a good thing that they picked a more private area because I didn't want anyone grinding on me tonight.
Taking my time to look around the club. Obviously, it was as dark as the night sky. All you could see were the silhouettes of people moving to the beat of the music. The low lighting made it difficult to see their faces. It had a stage where the DJ was doing his thing to make everyone dance in their place.
There was a second floor. It was more private than the first floor, I guessed it was the VIP lounge. My eyes caught a male figure, leaning on the railing with two girls hovering for his attention. I didn't realise why my gaze remained longer than normal. He intrigued me and somehow he seemed familiar.
Staring a bit longer until his shadow moved a bit forward where the light struck his face, my eyes widened, and I froze in the midst of the crowd.
The mysterious man was Xavier Knight.
Never Again 🌷 “We each begin in innocence. We all become guilty.” ~•~ •E V E L Y N• Quickly turning away from the sight, I followed Kat through the crowd, hoping that he didn't see me. Not knowing why, but I looked back and we locked gazes. I couldn't look away, he was staring at me intently like a lion watching his prey. Feeling a tug just as I lost my focus on Xavier. Kat was already pulling me with her. We then arrived at our booth, so I could take a seat. "You wait here. I'll locate Mason and will get our drinks." I nodded and she strutted off. As she left, I observed the crowd was dividing itself into half and was dispersing to their respective sides, making a void in the middle of the stage. A handsome man walked down the aisle with a drink in his left hand, looking right into my eyes. And to my surprise, the man was none other than Xavier Knight himself. What was he trying to do? I thought. Xavier was standing in the middle of the stage, while the DJ announced, "Ladi
Never Again 🌷 “Sometimes life has a cruel sense of humor, giving you the thing you always wanted at the worst time possible.” Lisa Kleypas ~•~ •X A V I E R• Would you call it bad luck or the worst timing, if you end up working with the same person you spent five years hating? Evelyn Rose Williams, the girl that I loved with every nerve fibre in my being. But now, I despise her the most. Immature, materialistic narcissist who just cared about herself, who played with each and every person's emotions as they were pawns in her life. The girl who could stoop down to the lowest, if it benefited her in any way. The girl once ruined my life, and I'd never let that happen again. After five years of messing with my head, why the hell was she back? Why couldn't she just leave me alone?! The frustration that was stirring inside me was driving me damn crazy. I saw her getting appointed as my secretary, all thanks to Chris. And after getting appointed as the secretary of the CEO of a mult
Never Again 🌷 “True love will triumph in the end-which may or may not be a lie, but if it is a lie, it's the most beautiful lie we have.” John Green ~•~ •E V E L Y N• Wishing that Sunday didn't happen because unfortunately, I had to face Xavier today at work. It was a Monday and I planned to avoid him like the plague. I wasn't going to indulge myself in his business until he apologized for his behaviour the other night. If he even remembered, I thought. I arrived at work at an earlier time, so I started to sort out all the files that needed to be signed and reviewed by Xavier. Engrossed in work, I didn't even notice him entering the office. He didn't usually bother addressing my presence, so today was no different. After a while, my phone started ringing. Looking up from what I was doing, answered the unknown number. Before I could even greet the person on the other end, I heard, "In my office, along with all the important files." And then he cut the call. Way too quick, M
Never Again 🌷 “Just ask how I'm feeling, I want to say. Just ask and I may tell you. But no one does.” Melina Marchetta ~•~ ~FIVE YEARS AGO~ •E V E L Y N• Ever since I knew about the dreaded agreement between Williams and Knight, I had cried myself to bed every night. Seeing as Marc wasn't here to comfort and change my mood, I was left on my own. After I ate, I took a nice warm bath and retired to bed early. Never had I ever imagined that for the rest of the week after I agreed to meet Xavier, I would have to handle a lot of my school work to complete it early. As Xavier Knight would arrive from New York to here in California on Monday, I also had to finish off my school work for the next few weeks. Trying to smooth out everything by myself and by Friday night, I finally let out a breath I didn't know I was holding all week. My weekend flew by so fast. I didn't even get the chance to relax my nerves. I had to divert my mind from him as I kept dreading for Monday. Waking up a
Never Again 🌷 “To hurt is as human as to breathe.” ~•~ E V E L Y N• Engrossed in our previous memories, I haven't heard Mr Walker entering my office. "What are you doing inside your office during lunch time?" Mr Walker's voice reached my ears and I immediately turned towards him. "Mr Walker actually-" "Didn't I tell you to call me Chris?" She asked, smiling as I nodded in yes. "Yes Chris, I just finished reading our new project." I told him and he sighed, leaning in front of my desk as he placed his hands on it. "We don't work like that here, Evelyn. Besides lunch hours are prohibited to our workers, using it for work. Now, come on." He motioned her to follow him. "But Mr Walker… sorry...Chris wait.." before I could say anything further, he had already gone into Xavier's office through the joined door. Sighing, I dragged myself up from the desk and trudged towards Chris' office. The sight of two people greeted me who were sitting in front of his desk, one of them was Xavi
Never Again 🌷 “It was never my intention to cause you pain. Whether you feel strongly or very little, that does not excuse thoughtless behaviour.” Jacquelyn Frank ~•~ E V E L Y N• Everyone was already in the limo when Xavier and I reached there. As we went in Chris asked, "What were you doing so long?" At that moment I felt a bit awful that I was also making everyone wait longer. And to rub salt in my wounds, Xavier laughed cruelly and replied, "She was being a woman, they always take time." "Well, she cleans up nicely." Chris chuckled and commented. "Thank you." I smiled. I hadn't realised that Chris' secretary, Lucy, had also joined us until she complimented me, "You look lovely." "Thank you Lucy, you too." I replied genuinely to which she smiled and started reading the file in her hand. Suddenly the vehicle stopped at this large building, it was so different from any I've ever seen, it's upper structure protrude outwards and it was magnificent. Everyone exited the li
Never Again 🌷 “Like a movie scene in the sweetest dreams, I've pictured us together.” Jennifer Lopez ~•~ •E V E L Y N• If I had to explain what type of person Xavier Knight had become, I couldn't. The way he was looking at me felt as if it was real but it wasn't. All these emotions, the manner he spoke to me usually were in contrast to the manner he was speaking to me right now. "What happened to you?" He asked and kept me locked in his arms. "Mr Knight, I.." Not caring about his pretence, I just wanted to tell him about this unbearable itching and pain. The odd unpleasant feeling of passing out in the midst of the event started to haunt me. This tormenting feeling inside me was growing stronger and stronger minute by minute. I had to get the hell out of this party, before the situation got out of control. As Xavier was about to walk away, I stopped him, "Xavier, wait." "What's wrong with you, Williams?" His face turned a bit irritated at me for keeping him waiting. Sudde
Never Again 🌷 “It has been said, 'time heals all wounds'. I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone.” Rose Kennedy ~•~ •X A V I E R• The wind blew my hair in a ruffled mess as I stepped out of my car. The weather was amazingly pleasant today, not too warm to cause me sweating, not too cold to make me shiver. But, when my eyes landed on the car stopped in front of mine, more specifically the redhead, my mood immediately turned sullen. "Thanks Kat, you're my lifesaver babe, I love you." She said to the person behind the steering wheel, looking towards her in a hurry. I wondered how someone being the braty ungrateful had learnt to thank someone. A sarcastic smile appeared on my face as I walked towards the building. Rose was rushing inside the building in full speed, this made me remember the other night when she got sick after eating those goddamn almonds, when I was seco
