Never Again

“The beauty of life is, while we cannot undo what is done, we can see it, understand it, learn from it and change so that every new moment is spent not in regret, guilt, fear or anger but in wisdom, understanding and love.”

“If it was up to me, I would not even let you work in any of the companies in New York, let alone my office.”
Those painful words kept ringing in my ears, stealing me of my peace of mind. I was already swimming in the pool of guilt, hearing those words from his mouth had left me in a puddle of misery. For years, I have been running from my past, facing the difficulties, but his face has brought me back to the place from where I started.
To zero!
"Damn! Babe!" Kat's yelling pulled me out of the trance. Turning my face towards her, only to find har staring at her laptop's screen with 'puppy- dog eyes'. "Why the hell didn't you tell me your Xavier Knight is the living Greek god?"
"He's not mine, and secondly why on earth are you stalking him?" I asked, raising my eyebrows at her. Kat shrugged, flicking her brown hair, usually tied in a bun that was now hanging loosely over her shoulder.
"Because my dear Eve, I've to look out for you." She replied, obviously in her 'duh' tone.
This girl!
"And dude, he looks nothing like you described." She said, sounding disappointed.
"He changed." I sighed, "People change."
"I didn't know about anyone, but he definitely aged like fine wine." She commented, while shutting down the laptop, scooting closer to me.
As always her calculative gaze studied my face and despite my every attempt to ignore her, I failed. There was no point in telling her the hate I faced in the office, because I was literally tired of seeing the pity in her eyes.
"Tell me." She asked as her voice turned serious, her questions always made my skin tingle with anxiety.
"Do you think I'm getting punished?" I asked.
A frown appeared on her face after hearing the question. Sighing, she wrapped her arms around me, placing her head on my shoulder. "You changed Eve, you had your fair share of punishment a long time ago. Don't let anyone walk over you all again."
The hatred in his eyes appeared once again before my eyes. "He hates me." I said, leaning into the couch. "And I think I deserve every bit of his contempt."
Kat stood up, her eyes were twinkling in amazement, disturbingly. "Stand up." She said, well not said, she commanded me.
"Why?" I groaned.
"I'm dressing you up for a 'girls' night, now come on."
I was about to say 'no', which was also my got-to-go answer in every situation. But, Kat literally dragged me out of the living room to her bedroom. I wasn't even sure how she switched her mood from serious to partying, but maybe I needed it right now. Kat hid a stash of perfect dresses for me that she knew I would never purchase as seeing my closet contained a bunch of T-shirts and jeans. I had been trying out a bunch of dresses for half an hour already and it seemed that most of them just didn't work out.
"Kat! This is ridiculous. I'm not opening up my 'soul' for everyone to see," I whined. I was bothered that she might try to set me up with some strange guy in the nightclub.
Rolling her eyes at me, She exaggerated. "This is a nightclub, Eve. You're not going to look like a virgin if you're stepping in with me. That's like the tenth dress you've tried on. Pick the damn dress!"
Getting frustrated, I pinched the bridge of my nose, taking a deep breath, I said, "Okay, okay. Just get me a dress that would at least cover my upper body."
"Hold on, I think I've something that you'd definitely approve of." Kat shuffled back to her closet and took out a deep green satin fabric. She then handed it to me. "Here, try this on."
Putting on the dress, I looked at myself in the mirror. My mouth curved into a smile when I saw it perfectly covered the upper area, I didn't mind the slit though. It was a perfect deep green sweetheart neckline backless satin dress. It hugged my body comfortably while the bottom flowed with a slit showing my right leg from knee to feet. I was a bit concerned with the back since it was bare. But in totality, I liked it.
Kat couldn't even contain her excitement. "You look gorgeous babe, like 'drooling' worthy." And I rolled my eyes at her comment.
I wasn't really into make-up. My daily routine only consisted of me putting on some cheek tint, loose powder and light pink shade of lipstick. It was a long time ago, I used to wear a ton of make-up, but guess what people change. Since this night was a once in a lifetime thing, I applied mascara and eyeliner just to let my brown with a tinge of green specs eye color pop. I curled my natural strawberry blonde, giving them slightly a more wavy look than usual as then accentuated loosely until my back.
Kat and I were now ready to go. She was wearing a black dress, red pumps and dark red lipstick.
Guess, who was in a full party mood.
"Damn! Girl you're totally getting laid today." I said as the side of my lips twitch to form a natural smirk.
"Shut up, I've got a boyfriend." She rolled her eyes at me. "But, you're definitely getting laid today."
"Hey!" I slapped her shoulder playfully.
Kat just chuckled. "Come on virgin, let's go have fun tonight."

The nightclub was already in full swing when we arrived. There were a lot of people lining up waiting to get access inside.
"Are you sure we could still fit in there?" I asked while Kat tried to find a parking spot nearby.
"Don't worry. Mason already got us into the guest list. We wanted to celebrate. Plus, you need to get out of the apartment," Kat assured me.
"Wait, Mason is here, like really here!" I exclaimed, hearing that Mason finally came from his tour.
It has been six years to Mason and Kat's relationship, I know he wanted to finish off his work of the year, so that he could finally prepare to propose to the love of his life and get married. He was my biggest support for years after Kat. I'd have known that partying would definitely be his idea, I still remember the day when he threw a party named 'I finally found my little sister', and that was me.
Those days….
No, no, nope. I know what everyone would be thinking, but no Mason and I weren't blood related. But, he had accepted me as his sister the day he saw me.
"Fuck! It was considered to be a surprise. Eve, promise me when you see Mason, you'll act like it is a fucking surprise from him." Kat told me sternly.
I was laughing my ass off, "Why of course Katherine, I'll definitely do as you said."
She was relaxed with my reply, although it somewhat bothered me whatever he planned to do for tonight. I just hoped that I wouldn't be tossed to a pile of hungry horny men. I shuddered at the thought.
As we entered the club, the music blasted through the speakers while the neon lights were blinding my vision. My eyes took their time to adjust to the scene around me. It was overwhelming at first but I could see that Kat couldn't contain her excitement.
"Eve, that's our table over there!" She screamed in my ear, pointing to a corner where it was a few meters away from the dance floor. It was a good thing that they picked a more private area because I didn't want anyone grinding on me tonight.
Taking my time to look around the club. Obviously, it was as dark as the night sky. All you could see were the silhouettes of people moving to the beat of the music. The low lighting made it difficult to see their faces. It had a stage where the DJ was doing his thing to make everyone dance in their place.
There was a second floor. It was more private than the first floor, I guessed it was the VIP lounge. My eyes caught a male figure, leaning on the railing with two girls hovering for his attention. I didn't realise why my gaze remained longer than normal. He intrigued me and somehow he seemed familiar.
Staring a bit longer until his shadow moved a bit forward where the light struck his face, my eyes widened, and I froze in the midst of the crowd.
The mysterious man was Xavier Knight.
Never Again 🌷 “I fell in love with his soul, before I could even touch his skin.” ~•~ •E V E L Y N• -TWO YEARS LATER- It had been two years after that horrified day, two years for Marcus' wedding, two years being mother to three amazing kids, two years since Xavier started acting like him and me as hus, to win my trust back. And in these two years, he never touched me without my permission. I still get scared remembering the day when I thought I lost my kid, my son, my happiness, Alexander. Yes, Savannah did pull the trigger, but Xavier pushed the gun away from Alex and he missed it by an inch, or else… Breathing out, I suddenly remembered the day when Alex asked me if I could be his mother too, if he could call me Mom too. That day was the best day of my life, we both had tears in our eyes. Of course, I wanted him to call me Mom, but when he wanted to. His face held so much emotion, and Xavier actually shed some tears when he heard Alex calling me Mom, he was finally reli
Never Again 🌷 Xavier and Mason immediately contacted their detective and the Hawaii police. Evelyn texted the cottage's address to Xavier, according to which they reached the cottage. The detective had asked for a backup which was secretly following them at a distance of a kilometre. Xavier was about to break the door using his foot, when Mason grabbed his arm and pulled him behind, "Don't be a fool Xavier, they can't know our arrival." Nodding his head, they both let the detective and Hawaii police enter the abandoned cottage. There were numerous narrow passages and it was really hard to know where they kept Alexander and Evelyn, until, "Stay away from my son!" Yelled Evelyn. Following the voice, the police increased their pace as they made their presence known to the criminals, warning: "FREEZE! THIS IS HAWAII POLICE." Savannah's eyes widened as she exclaimed in disbelief whilst looking at Evelyn, "You played us!" "You are a criminal." Spat Chris. "I'm not gonna let you
Never Again 🌷 E V E L Y N• I was being dragged, again. The bulky man held my forearm really tight and continued tracking me out of the cell and through the narrow passage I was pretty sure my blood circulation had stopped by now. "Rose!" Alex screamed when a man slapped him hard on the face. It made my blood at another level. "Leave him the fuck alone out of this!" I yelled to the top of my voice as I pushed my nails in the wrist of my captor. The man dragging me, pushed open the metal door before we entered. He shoved me, not so gently on a wooden chair and tied my arms and legs, they did the same with Alex and he was crying uncontrollably. It made my heart break again and again. Screaming in my head, 'Where the fuck are you Blake?!' Trying to wriggle out of the ropes. I tried hard but all the energy was drained from my body. I didn't have the energy to lift my finger, I just threw my head back and closed my eyes tightly. Looking sideways, "Alex," I called him as he looke
Never Again 🌷 •EVELYN / ROSE• That was probably the longest drive of my life, in these twenty-four hours my life had turned upside down. First my kids got hospitalized and my daughter's condition was critical when a guy with eyes familiar to my kids, declared his claim on my kids. He thought I was a fool or he was mistaken that I was weak. I could be anything but that, in these five years I've learned to cope with my unknown past, I know how to connect dots. And after connecting everything that happened in these past few weeks after Mr. Knight entered my life, it led to a conclusion. Xavier Knight is indeed related to my past, but to what extent, I didn't know until tonight. How could I be so foolish to not acknowledge the feelings, his look, that unknown connection to his son and the familiarity between my kids and him. I knew, I was afraid to voice out the truth, but somewhere back in my mind, I know who he is to my kids. But, for now I don't know what he is to me. Ther
Never Again 🌷 I moved my eyes to see Mason and Marcus, but they weren't there, "They went to fulfill the requirements." Answered Evelyn for me. She walked out of the room as I trailed behind her, once we were in a quiet isolated zone, seeing the rise of the sun. No words were exchanged and it was uncomfortable, I looked at her through my peripheral vision, my brows drawn together slowly as I gazed upon her pretty face. Even with the light scar on her forehead she still looked as beautiful as the day I saw her walking down the aisle. "I'm going to ask you something and please be truthful." She said, turning her body towards me to which I nodded. "Have we met before?" "Yes, we have." I answered absent-mindedly and mentally cussed myself, "At your office." "Before the office I mean." She cleared. "Not that I remember of, why did you ask?" I questioned. Stop it, Xavier. She knows you're lying. "You eyes," looking into my eyes, her gaze was like she was finding something in my
Never Again 🌷 X A V I E R• After the doctor checked my blood pressure, he went to see the status of my daughter. When I declared the relation of being the father to the kids, Evelyn's hard eyes weren't easy to ignore. They had questions, numerous questions in those dark browns. She looked like she was going to explode and burn me alive. Although, she did utter a single word, asking, "Why?" It wasn't just a word, it was the whole train of questions. I knew she wouldn't back down until I answered the question, so to my stupidity, I said, "It wouldn't take much time now considering the donor is her father." I very well knew it was a stupid reason, but I had to give one. Descending down the corridor, I made my way toward the room that the doctor had asked me to come to. I halted in front of OT-07, the room allotted to my daughter, my heart was racing at another level and I did not want to break down here. "I know," someone said beside me that broke the train of my thoughts. Te
Never Again 🌷 “Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodnight till it be morrow.” ~•~ A heavy feeling settled in Xavier's stomach as his body went extra stiff and rigid. A sudden coldness dreaded in his being when Evelyn said with a horror stricken face, "Kids! They are in hospital!" Aiden's eyes widened in alarm as he held her arm in a firm grip, "Let's go." And started dragging her towards the elevator. His feets were glued to the surface and wasn't able to make any movement. What did she mean by kids? Whose kids? Are they hers and Aiden's…? No-no, no, NO! Meanwhile, "I'm sorry, it's an emergency. I'll make it up to you later, we better leave." Aiden said in a hurry to Mason and Katherine. "Rubbish we're coming along, let's go," declared Mason, turning his head, "Marcus!-" Before Mason could finish, Marcus came with his car-keys, saying, "Let's go." It was hard for Evelyn to grasp any voice as she herself reached the elevator and pressed the button, not waiting
Never Again🌷 “To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist.” ~•~ •X A V I E R K N I G H T• There she was, the love of my life, my wife. She looked so simple, yet so beautiful. I couldn't take my eyes off of her as she walked in wearing the green dress. Amazement was so obvious in her honey browns, the moment my eyes landed her hand intertwined with Aiden, my jaw clenched. I balled my empty hands in fists to prevent myself from ripping his hands off her but when she slipped away from his hold, my fists loosened. Sitting on the stool, I saw her confused features while interacting with Katherine. Pouring myself a glass of whiskey, I sipped on it while just admiring her, my Rose. Even if she doesn't remember anything about her past, she still had the very name I used. For the last five years, I haven't seen her, not even a single glance at her photo that had been placed upside down on my desk. I felt someone's hard gaze and I found Aiden glaring at me. Followi
"I…" my voice trailed as I pulled him into a hug to which he circled his hands around my neck, "Yes, I'll be there." I said, rubbing his back.Pulling away, he kissed my cheek, as I said holding his hands, "But, you'll not run like this, okay?"Nodding happily, he said, "Okay."With that I ruffled his hair and stood up at my place, and Alexander went towards Xavier. Before Aiden could say something to me, he got interrupted by a call as he excused himself and went to attend the call. While I looked at father-son's bonding, Katherine pulled me towards an empty table, "How are you?" She asked.Although a smile lingered on my lips, a frown accompanied it, "I'm good, why do you ask?" I asked."It's been years and-" Katherine stopped midway as she realised something."Years?" I pressed, my smile disappeared as a look of confusion took c
