Serena's pov

Cole guided me upstairs, his hand resting gently against the small of my back. He led me into an ensuite bedroom that was absolutely beautiful, centered around a stunning four-poster bed.

"If you don't mind, I would like to freshen up... and I do need to get back home," I said, looking around at my luxurious surroundings. I walked over to the large, floor-length windows. This room wasn't facing the beach, but instead looked out over the bustling coastal roads lined with sophisticated boutique shops and designer stores.

"Home?" Cole repeated, looking at me, completely confused. The word seemed entirely foreign to him now that he had found me. He shook it off quickly. "Okay, here's what we'll do. Freshen up first. There should be new robes and towels in the bathroom, and we'll talk afterward."

I went into the bathroom and turned on the shower. The warm water felt incredible against my skin. I had felt so grubby and scruffy, even more so standing in the middle of his pristine, luxurious estate.

While I was washing away the sand, Cole must have left the room to freshen up in another part of the house. When I walked back out into the bedroom, he looked absolutely striking. He had changed into a sharp, tailored suit, and his blond curls were still damp from his own shower. I couldn't help but stare at how the fabric stretched perfectly over his wide, powerful chest.

He caught me looking. A slow, playful teasing smile spread across his lips. I quickly smiled back, my face instantly growing warm with shyness.

Suddenly, there was a firm knock on the door. Cole went over, speaking to someone briefly in the hallway before returning to the room. He carried a tray over to the table by the window, setting down my breakfast along with a second cup of coffee, presumably for him.

His phone began to vibrate again. He pulled it out and dialed a contact. While he was talking, I sat down at the table and stared out the window at the high-end shops below. I picked up my croissant and took a small bite.

"Yes, okay... hold on a minute," Cole said into the receiver, pulling the phone away from his ear. He looked over at me. "Babe, what's your dress size?"

I frowned slightly, completely caught off guard, but I told him anyway.

Cole immediately spoke back into the phone. "Okay. Bring every color they have."

I sat there, sipping my coffee wrapped in the plush robe, feeling a little overwhelmed by how fast he was moving. In my mind, this was still a temporary stop. I was fully planning on putting my old beach clothes back on and heading right back to my regular life.

After finishing my small breakfast, I went back into the bathroom and reluctantly pulled the wrinkled clothes I had arrived in back over my clean skin.

When I stepped out, Cole's eyes dropped to my outfit, his brow furrowing into a deep frown.

I deliberately ignored his disapproval and braced myself. "Cole, I really have to get home. Thanks... thanks for everything."

I turned, taking a step toward the bedroom door.

"Serena." Cole's voice was a soft command as he reached out, his hand gently catching mine to stop me. "Please. I know you are eager to leave, but please, at least let's have a talk first. Let's lay our cards out on the table, so to speak. I've just found you. You are my fated mate. We belong together."

"I know... but I need to leave. Just give me some time," I pleaded.

And with that, I slipped my hand out of his grip and took off out of the bedroom, almost stumbling over my own feet as I reached the door.

"Serena!" he called out after me, his powerful Alpha voice echoing down the hall.

I didn't look back. I practically flew down the winding staircase, my heart hammering against my ribs. I didn't stop until I burst through the front doors of the grand house and out into the crisp morning air. But as I hurried down the hillside path, I ran straight into a wall of pure hostility.

I came face-to-face with Maisey.

"I see you couldn't wait to leave," she sneered, blocking my path for a fraction of a second. She looked me up and down with absolute contempt.

"Perhaps next time, you'll wear something a little more suitable." My panic instantly flared into anger.

"Perhaps you'll mind your own business!" I darted back sharply, pushing past her before hurrying down the rest of the hillside path toward the beach.

Once my feet hit the sand, I risked a quick glance over my shoulder. Good. Cole wasn't following me.

I got back to my cottage in record time. I changed into something more comfortable and put what I had been wearing into the washing machine.

As it started, I went over the past day's events-from saving the man in the water to meeting my fated mate, Cole. He seemed kind, even with that typical Alpha style of wanting to control and sort everything out. And, of course, he was very attractive.

But can I trust a man again? This is so soon after Malcolm, and I still have loose ends with him. Knowing him, he is actively looking for me. A shudder went down my spine at the thought.

I had saved every bit of money I could to get here. We were together for four years, having married within months of meeting. Back then, he was ever so charming; I never believed he would turn into a monster, but his mask had slipped.

He would beat me if I didn't do things the way he wanted-simple things like forgetting to call the gardener, or not hanging his suits the precise way he liked, in color order from light to dark. He would storm over to me, calling me a "stupid human" as an insult before striking me across my face or pulling my head back. I was always too scared to run until now.

After that first year, his true nature came out, and I realized he wasn't the man I married. I knew I had to build an escape plan. Since he refused to let me work, I convinced him to let me "volunteer" for a local garden project. In reality, I landed a secret receptionist job at a used car dealership one day a week. I stashed that money away, along with whatever allowance he threw my way whenever I played the dutiful, compliant wife.

Combined with a modest inheritance from my grandmother, I finally bought this little cottage. Three years of careful planning had brought me here. It was run-down and needed work, but looking around at the peeling kitchen wallpaper, I couldn't help but smile. It was mine.

BANG.

A sudden slam at the door tore me away from my thoughts. Another one rattled the frame.

I instantly felt a chill. Someone was out there. I walked slowly and carefully toward the front hallway, not realizing I was holding my breath. Looking ahead, I could see the dark shadow of a figure through the door window.

I froze in fear. What if... it's Malcolm.

Serena’s POV "Serena, the reason I have been looking away from you is because I was overcome with emotion and I was feeling vulnerable," Cole stated, looking deeply into my eyes. "I felt guilty about my past behaviors and I was completely afraid of losing you and my baby. I thought you would walk away from me soon." He looked down, pausing for a brief moment before looking me directly in my eyes again. "That's the reason, Serena. I didn't want to lose the woman I love along with my baby." I was completely at a loss for words. I actually did believe him. I looked back at him, my heart softening. "I'm sorry," I said. "I just felt overwhelmed too with everything, and I just didn't know what to believe anymore." "Can we start again? I promise you things won't be anything like they've been in the past. I've also done some counseling which has helped, and I'll continue for as long as I need to," Cole said. It was as though he was pleading with me. I put my hand over his and gave h

  • The Billionaire Alpha's Sea Luna   Chapter 96: Shattered perception

Serena’s POV Cole stood towering above me in the amber lamplight, waiting patiently for my answer. "Y—You can touch me on my stomach," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I had rapidly decided that him touching my chest would have been entirely too much to handle, and I was terrified I might accidentally give away how deeply I still vibrated for him. He quietly sat down on the chair beside my mattress and gently placed his large, warm palm flat over the round swell of my stomach. The exact second Cole's skin made contact with mine, a white-hot spark shot up my nerves, and the baby immediately started to kick fiercely against his touch. Cole smiled, his handsome features completely softening as he looked down, entirely mesmerised by the tiny life growing inside me. "Wow... I've got myself a little athlete here," he said, let out a deep, gravelly chuckle. He looked up to meet my gaze as the baby continued to thump rhythmically beneath his fingertips. I simply didn't know

  • The Billionaire Alpha's Sea Luna   Chapter 95: The Alpha's Lifeforce Current

Serena's POV I lay quietly in the bed under Cole and Milly's intense watch. Doctor Fletcher had checked me over thoroughly the moment he arrived, running a series of rapid diagnostic tests while Cole paced anxiously at the foot of the mattress. After reviewing the final results, the doctor turned to face both Cole and myself, his expression deeply serious. "You will need to stay directly by her side, Alpha. What is happening right now is that her unborn pup is incredibly strong and powerful. He is rapidly depleting her human energy and strength." My breath hitched slightly, my hand instinctively resting over my bump. "It has left her severely anaemic," Doctor Fletcher explained, gesturing to the charts. "Which, of course, is exactly why she is feeling so dizzy, lethargic, and physically unwell. If you can stay close and touch her skin-specifically resting your palms over her stomach and chest to feed her your own Alpha energy-she will stabilize and be completely

  • The Billionaire Alpha's Sea Luna   Chapter 94: The Luna's Dramatic Thoughts

Serena’s POV The next day, I did absolutely everything in my power to avoid Cole. I just couldn't face him—not after that humiliating near-miss after dinner last night. To my quiet relief, he didn't try to come to my room. Milly came in a few times to check on my vitals, but I did feel significantly weaker today for some unknown reason. I had gotten noticeably paler, or so Milly said, and a sharp, nagging headache was beginning to throb behind my temples. She gently told me to take my nourishment fluid and handed me some painkillers, advising me to stay in bed because the medication could make me drowsy. But I felt incredibly restless, and the drowsiness never came. Rested out by the silence of the room, I decided to push the duvet aside and go sit out on the balcony to catch a bit of sun. I stood there by the railing, tilting my face up toward the afternoon light. It felt good basking in the glorious sunshine. And that’s when I caught the low murmur of two voices float

Serenas pov "I'll help you downstairs if you'd like," Milly offered quickly, stepping forward to steady my arm when she saw me falter from a sudden, brief bout of dizziness. "You know, Alpha Cole would be completely okay with bringing your meal directly up to your bedroom if it's a bit too much for you to handle the dining room tonight, Luna." "No, it's okay, Milly. I'm fine now," I said, offering her a soft, appreciative smile as I gathered my balance and walked toward the door. I turned back to face her, keeping my voice polite but gentle. "Your work is officially finished for the day, so please go and enjoy your evening." "Okay, Luna. Have a truly nice dinner," she said, giving a compliant nod. "I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Cole mentioned it was your absolute favorite." "Thank you, Milly. I'm sure I will." As I turned away, a quiet, heavy thought crossed my mind. She's my medical nurse, my chef, and my personal shopper getting my groceries. What on earth is next? I knew d

  • The Billionaire Alpha's Sea Luna   Chapter 92: The Intruder's Shadow

Serena’s POV The next morning, Milly checked my vitals before handing me another bottle of nourishment fluid. "Alpha Cole is dropping me off at the clinic first to pick up that wildberry flavor you prefer," she announced brightly, sliding a notepad and pen onto my bedside table. "While I'm inside, you can write down whatever you want for dinner. Cole and I are heading straight to the grocery store right after we leave the clinic." "It's not that I particularly like the wildberry," I muttered defensively, reaching for the pen. "It just tastes a little better than the rest of the options." "Don't worry," she said empathetically, letting out a small chuckle as she patted my arm. "You'll only be on these for a couple more days. After that, you won't ever have to swallow another drop." I kept my face completely blank, quickly jotting down a few grocery items before handing the list back to her. "Great, we'll make sure to get all of this for you," she said, folding the paper.
