Enchanting Presence

last update Last Updated: 2025-09-12 22:37:49

Chase’s POV

For the life of me, I couldn’t explain why I was indulging Carmen this much. Everyone around me knew that I was reserved.

The only persons who had heard me talk much about anything were Jonathan and Terry. Jonathan, rarely, but Terry, more often because we had spent longer time together, and our relationship wasn’t even work-related.

But here I was, going back and forth with Carmen.

“Are you ready to leave?” She asked me.

And I realized that I was ready, but I didn’t want to leave.

There was something about Carmen’s presence that made me want more of it even though I shouldn’t, and no, it had nothing to do with romantic or emotional feelings. I hadn’t bantered with anyone this long enough without nearly strangling them with anger and frustration. Yes, Carmen had a way of frustrating me, but then again, I liked it in an odd way.

Telling her that I was ready to leave meant sharing her presence with the other management team, and right now, I didn’t want that.

“No, not yet,”

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   A Little Trip Back

Chase’s POVLeaving was the only way I could get Carmen away from asking and probing. Gosh, she was just too sensitive and inquisitive. As much as I enjoyed her company, even though I would never tell her, I didn’t want her to know what I was hiding and keeping from the public. However, what she didn’t know was that there were a few similarities with our lives, but just on a different scale of things. I still felt like she was more fortunate than I was, but then again, I also understood her need for freedom and liberty. It was exactly my driving force when I killed my dad and walked out of the house that night, but I hadn’t gone farther than I had hoped to.I had found an abandoned trailer that I had been noticing on my way to work each day, and I had passed the night there. However, by morning, three cops had shown up there.“Are you Chase?” One of them asked gruffly.“Yes, I am,” I had answered. “How may I help you?” I had asked.“How old are you?” The second cop had asked.“Why do

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   Failed Trick

Carmen’s POV“What happened?” Chase asked.I couldn’t deny that I was surprised at Chase’s questions. He never seemed like the type that would care for any form of personal details. He rarely even conversed with me, but we had been in this room for over thirty minutes now, and it didn’t seem like we were leaving any time soon.“My dad wanted me to work at his friend’s law firm,” I said.“That’s all?” Chase asked.“Yeah,” I answered casually, and he scoffed. “What, you don’t think that is enough reason for me to rebel?” I asked him.“Certainly not,” Chase answered tightly. “Trust me, some kids grew up without dads to hand them jobs,” he added. That pain and anger again, but this time around, it was in the sound of his voice and not his eyes. I bet Chase was trying to hide it, but I heard it, loud and clear. Some other persons might have missed it, but definitely not me.But I didn’t push it…not now.Chase might think that he was getting away with it, but he didn’t know that I already k

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   Back and Forth

Carmen’s POVI didn’t know what to do, being that Chase just stood still, his back against me, not moving or saying anything.I wanted to say something, but I was confused. Is he okay? Is he still upset? I couldn’t tell. This was strange for me and I really didn’t know how best to handle it.“Do I still have my job?” I eventually managed to ask, hoping that his answer would not be no.If Chase said no, then I would have no choice but to leave and return home like a failure and a defeated warrior.“Yes,” Chase answered gruffly.“Huh?” I asked, unable to believe my ears.“It’s what you want, right?” Chase asked me.He still hadn’t turned, but it was obvious that he was still angry, and that was because I could feel it deep in his voice.“Yes, yes, it is,” I answered hastily.“Then you have it,” Chase said.“I have my job back?” I asked.I knew that I was sounding really stupid right now, but it was just because I couldn’t believe it. Aside the fact that Chase had already fired many man

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   A Past That Strikes

Chase’s POVUsually, I wouldn’t be moved one bit. I had fired others before her, and no matter how deeply a few of them begged, I didn’t change my mind, but something about Carmen’s voice cut through the brick wall surrounding my heart. And maybe it was her voice, but something about her sob story made me a little less insistent. It was something I could resonate with.As she pleaded, I was forced to flashback on how things had been for me.Growing up in the suburbs of the city had been the worst thing that ever happened to me. My parents had no money, and my dad was deadbeat. He left home every morning and returned home late at night, very drunk. And I always wondered why my mum bothered with keeping dinner for him.“Why do you keep doing this?” I had queried her. “He doesn’t give a shit about us. He doesn’t provide for us, and yet, you use the money we get from working menial jobs to make dinner for him,” I had added angrily.I was fourteen at the time, and I had already been expos

  • The Billionaire Hockey King Stole A Kiss From Me   Fired

Carmen’s POVI stood there, unable to move, speak, or breathe. What were those scars? My goodness!Chase didn’t know that there was someone else in the room, and his face was still backed to the door. It dawned on me that this might have been the reason Jonathan didn’t want me to come into the room. He was trying to tell me the reason when Terry took his attention. But then again, why was the door left unlocked?I swallowed, horrified by what I was seeing. It was as though a machine had charred lines on Chase’s back. This had to be the worst that anyone could have, and from what I was seeing, it was not an accident. The scars looked like they were a result of violence or assaults. It was just too much, and downright scary.I stood there, unable to do anything but just stand and stare, until Chase put on another shirt, and that was when he leisurely turned. He had really thought that he was alone, and a part of me felt guilty and horrible for violating this privacy, especially when Cha
